Then you're basically like 90% done because I actually decide the two other independents for you.
Anyway they're mostly done. I'll have them up later in the first post with all the races.
Good to know.
Although, if I'm being honest, that's a bit of an ask: allowing a GM to make an executive decision on not one, but two core aspects of my character's existence in regards to their creation... but I'll reserve judgement in full for when I see the end results.
I'm rather interested in this, now, and don't wanna make too many presumptions.
@Enkryption Almost done. It's been delayed because FFXIV.
Anyhow, depends. I suppose it comes down to shooting technique. Things lile stance, breathing, grip, and even cqc. Given it's a railgun, you might focus on accuracy and rely on landing the shots above all else.
I took a pretty general guess. My CS is done, save for the Independents section.
Also, question: In terms of Fighting Styles, my character is a pugilist who uses knuckle dusters, so that's an easy ask to answer, but involving her subweapon, which exactly would a Fighting Style for a railgun rifle be?
Scarlett didn't have any feelings that she could attribute to Shavis that were beyond those of a domesticated feral cat being hosted by someone she didn't want to trust, and be hurt by in the future.
She didn't resist Shavis; her touch, her words; her guidance from the halls and the jail of her own existence. Sensing the worst had passed, the vermilion serpent retreated into its nest, and disappeared.
Blood followed, the scarlet liquid left in steadied tracks by bare feet, as they retired to their carriage for the long ride. As they traveled, she slept; her body restless, as the iron kept her blood veins clear on her skin, and her eyes shifted miles a minute underneath her eyelids...
...and beheld darkness; above and beneath, as she lay on a shifting sea of iron sand under a cloudless canopy of obsidian sky.
"Nn..."
Scarlett closed her hands... her left stung from the grit and bite of the grains of iron that made up the desert, but her right hand made no motions.
It didn't exist.
"Mm..."
Rolling into her left side, Scarlett would work herself to her knees, and staggered to her feet.
Her eyes shifted without anything to settle on.
Aimless, the Alchemist with no barings to travel with took a step forward...
...seconds...
...minutes...
...hours...
...days...
...months...
... years...
...walking, walking, walking, forevermore...
{Are you lost, Traveler? Don't have a path anymore, do you?}
Scarlett shifted her body, defensively, and looked around. Her idea caught nothing, except criss-crossing paths of blood-soaked iron sands.
How long had she been walking?
{All you wanted was a path, but you stepped off. How foolish.}
"Leave me alone..."
Scarlett gasped. Her voice was deeper, matured, the youthful, playful lilt traded for a womanly cadence and charm. She had spoken in years, hadn't thought about the action, as she walked without a need to eat, drink, or sleep...
{I better set you back on the path you are supposed to travel, little princess.}
Smoothing out, the sea parted and revealed a straight road that gave way to a winding path into the darkness.
At the start of it, stood that pompous, blue asshole; he turned his back to her, and made a "let's go," motion with his head.
"...him..."
{Follow your path.}
Scarlett growled, and clenched her left fist. Follow her path? Follow him? Laughable!
Screaming, as the iron sand shook and whipped into a sandstorm, before condensing and shaping into a clawed arm, Scarlett would charge at Ruecian - angling her claws to take out his throat with his back turned to him.
However, she caught the brunt of a ice staff to the gut for her recklessness, and was jolted --
-- awake with a start, as Scarlett's eyes went wide, as she lurched forward, and vomited a slurry of iron and bile onto the floor of the carriage; her cheeks an ironic shade of iron-ore green.
Fortunately, the jerking that awakened her was from the carriage stopping, and she was able to stumble out of it to finish evacuating her stomach at the foot of a tall tree.
Looking back with a drowsy look, she remarked, "Heh, it's toiletry..."By time they reached the village, Scarlett's step would be normalized, and her expression hardened anew.
As she listened to the village elder ramble on, she would send her temporary snake summon into the trees; however, not before morphing her right arm with numerous alchemical scriptures written upon it, which would shed iron onto her scales, and further add to Nadia's tampering.
The inclusion of iron scales would reinforce the flaming nature that had been forced upon her, and evolve her down a natural path. Her technique wasn't as refined as Nadia's, but that brief moment of study had clued her into the Alchemy side of Synergy.
"Don't take unnecessary risk, Milli," Scarlett says, as the iron-clad serpent wound around her shoulders, and flicked her tongue against Scarlett's cheek. "Go on, you. Scout for anything Human or Belua. Stay high, and out of sight."
Milli acknowledged Scarlett, but not before another playful tongue tickling. Slithering inside her cloak, she would hit the ground sliding, and disappear into the brush - only to be seen once more upon a tree, before she was gone into the yawning canopy.
"As for you, if you wanna offer assistance," Scarlett looked at the elder, "Two options," she ticked a finger, "Take up arms and be ready for whatever may come from this, or," she ticked up second finger, "Piss off inside your houses, and stay out of the way until we're done."
Scarlett crossed her arms, "Little Miss Clown Hat over here is what we call 'a bleeding heart,' but my heart bleeds cold iron."
Stamping her foot, Scarlett would dig iron into the ground, and spawn a table. Upon it, she would set her collected consumables, and explain what they did.
"Shavis, Hector, you'll take a Repressant. An ambush attack from either of you will be a capital advantage," Scarlett says, before dancing the free one around, "Shavis, take the spare. Your combat style exerts more movement than Hector's. Better you have a re-up."
Scarlett slid the urn to Tilnak. "A connection to the earth will fare better with the deployment of this than a connection to the water," she says, "That said, you and Little Miss Clown Hat will be perfect for defensive measures." And, speaking of, "I figure, if you have even half the measure of talent you believe your haughty brother has, you and Tilnak can build a half-decent palisade around this place. If the Makara have any elemental powers, they appear to be electric or flame based, so a wall of hardened mud will stand as a defensible deterrent and early warning."
Turning her attention back to the elder, "If you choose to take up arms, confer to Shavis and Hector, and polish your offensive skills with spears and bows," she unfastened her cloak, "If you choose to hide, offer your assistance to Tilnak and Little Miss Clown Hat with their defensive measures," and she left her cloak drop, as she cracked her neck, and raised her right hand, "My suggestion: divide and do both, if you really wanna help to the fullest of your abilities."
"Eosinophil."
Scarlett transformed her arm into the spearmorph, and smirked. "As for me, I'm going spearfishing. Fucking starving."
And, she would take off without allowing a word in edgewise - neither of confirmation or objection. She just expected work to be done, and everyone to play their parts to the letter.
For her part, she was going to scout the perimeter of the expanded territory for weakness, while "fishing"...
Funnily enough, my Witch's primarily weapon, her Vision, is a pair of copper knuckle dusters that channel her Electro Magic. So, self-charging a railgun would be not issue for her.
I've just been working on the character sheet and a few other things. Having trouble deciding one of the parts of the character sheet, so it is almost finished.
I suppose until the sheet is done I can share a bit about some of the firearms I've already got done in mind.
Firearms - The advancement of firearms have reached the point of bolt action rifles and revolvers. Early forms of automatic weapons do exist, though in prototype forms. With the usage of the elements however, nations have created various types of firearms.
Railgun - The nation of Averton have recently created railguns, coming in large or small sizes. The smaller ones are in the form of crossbows, sometimes with a repeater mechanic to load the next shot, while the larger ones are used as siege weapons.
Dragons Breath - The pyrotechnics of Fuhan have created a kind of explosive blunderbuss. Though the range leaves something to be desired, spread and destructive force more than makes up for it. Also called “bunker busters” due to being able to clear a room in a single blast from a high ordinance model. These weapons come in smaller form as well, able to slung under longer barreled weapons as a secondary fire.
Railguns....
...well, I guess I know what my Witch's subweapon is, now.
I'll format it later, but here are some races. You can assume by the way that an animal race for most animals already exist, they're classed similarly to humans. These are just the ones who have a bit more going on for them.
Unique Races
Adeptus - Disciples and creations of the first Pyro Archon, long-lived beings with immense mystical power. They are defined by their Adeptus arts, which are capable of creating their own realities. Adepti are often in search of knowledge and wisdom, usually towards a particular subject, as the accumulation of knowledge is one of the reasons they were created, as to not forget about the past.
Yaoguai - Powerful beasts that live in the lands of Fuhan, but able to assume a human form. Over time, Yaoguai have adapted and learned to coexist with the citizens of Fuhan but are still widely seen as savage beasts. They possess great strength and resilience, and their beast forms give them an edge in battle. It is said the current Pyro Archon has a whole squad of Yaoguai soldiers.
Yokai - Mystical beings from Yato’s long and storied history, often appearing throughout with their own tales. It is said Yokai walk among the people of Yato, having long learned to be one of them. A Yokai’s strengths and weaknesses depend entirely on what kind of Yokai they are, some are talented at using their elements, and others are storied warriors.
Cryptid - In Walton there exists proof of the land’s ancient roots, the roots of the Uvera people. Called divine beasts by the tribes of Uvera, and called cryptids by the people of Walton, they are often strange and unusual creatures. Largely, most of them cannot assume a human form, but among them there are those that are particularly powerful, and are able to do so. Cryptids have a wide variety of possible powers and abilities, but they often correlate to something somewhat alien.
Witch - In the long past of Averton, when man used swords and shields, there existed a people who were incredible wielders of magical arts. Shunned by the people of Averton they went into seclusion. Today, they still hide among the people, stories of their ancestors and their portrayal as evil people who lured the innocent into deals with the devil still haunt them. Whether or not such stories were true, their command over magic is immense. Typically, witches are women, but male witches have been recorded as well.
Noble Beasts - A class of beasts who possess greater intelligence, they are frequently legends in and around the Averton and Lascuta regions. They are beasts with stories more complex than man hunts beast. Vampires, werewolves, succubi, wraiths, and so on.They have often been compared to yokai, but the difference seems to be the nature of their powers.
Jotun - The Jotun are a hardy large race living in the Helgaskr region. Their population is quite small, and they are a peaceful people. An ancient war however has made them forever resentful of the peoples of Helgaskr, though at the time it was called something else. The Jotun possess large bodies, and stone-like skin, and of course, great strength and resilience.
Shaitan - In Al-Marabar, it is said if a good man were to one day kill another, or to commit a crime seemingly unprovoked, it would be the fault of the Shaitan, evil spirits who incite evil in the hearts of men. Shaitan themselves though… Do possess this ability, able to push suggestion into the hearts of people they speak with, though it is not explicitly for evil purposes. Sometimes it can be for the good of others. Shaitan compared to their other supernatural counterparts seem somewhat unremarkable, often possessing a mostly human appearance, with the particularly powerful ones possessing horns. Overall however, they are resilient and impressively agile fighters, often relying on their mobility and trickery for combat.
My hands are idle and sat upon, so the devil known as Questions comes to play, and I've many. However, in the interest of time, I'll sum the list down to three:
1: Is there any mechanical benefit to playing a specific Race? Like, for instance, my character is a Witch from Averton, but does that get her anything? Is she more respected around the town, or is she just another townie? Do Witches have covens, or are they solo affairs? And, does she have a more innate connection to Lightning above other Elements, as her Racial Origin is Averton?
Needless to say, that last question applies to the other Races from specific locations.
2: Is there any real difference in playing one of the three Beast Tribes over the other? Is there something that only Cryptids can do that Noble Beasts or Yaoguai couldn't, and vice versa twice over? I understand separating them out, but at a cursory glance, they don't have any immediate advantages or disadvantages.
Especially since, all three are able to assume a Human form, and seamlessly blend in with Human society at a whim, while being generally stronger and better than any Human could be.
3: In regards to the Adeptus and Shaitan, exactly what is the upper limits of their unique abilities? "Creating their own realities," and the ability to possess another and push their towards a goal not wholly their own are game-changers that could derail a plot by an Adeptus just banishing someone to the Shadow Realm or a Shaitan coaxing a big player into a bad decision.
Granted, those would make for dramatic changes, and could even benefit the story, it's something that does bring cause for concern.
I apologize, if these questions are a little hostile and/or overwhelming. I'm just rather curious about the implementation of these Races, as opposed to "Everyone is Human".
