Appearance DetailsLeila is 5’11”, but her gentle demeanor often makes her seem smaller. She is South African, and her deep bronze skin, which is splattered with faint freckles, belies her vampiric nature with its pallid undertone. Her hair, currently a soft pink, is never one color for more than a year at a time, and she frequently styles it herself. Soft grey eyes and a gently rounded nose contrast her sharp jawline, enabling her to switch from genial to imposing with a small shift in posture. She has a simple fashion style that leans towards femininity, composing mostly of colorful blouses, dark pants, and sundresses. She frequently dons wide-brimmed hats and thin shawls to ward off the worst of the sun.
Personality TraitsEasy-going and patient, Leila is a calming force to those whom which she interacts. She is empathetic and generous, and her astute nature allows her to reflect the behaviors of her clients to make them more at-ease. On the flip side, Leila is a bit of a push-over. She is trusting to the point of naivety, and her instinct to read people and adapt to their behavior has caused her to have deep-rooted feelings of fraudulence.
She values emotional stability and peace above all else. She will bend the truth to whatever shape necessary in order to preserve someone’s feelings, and she was one of the strongest supporters of the King’s decision to separate from the humans.

HistoryLeila was born in South Africa in the early 1400’s to the Khaiǁkhaun clan of the Nama group of the Khoikhoi people. Humans and non-humans intermingled freely within her community, so she had a relatively peaceful childhood. She discovered her passion for plants in her early “teens,” and she experimented (to the best of her ability) with differing water and sunlight levels. In about 1460, she traveled with a handful of other non-humans up through the African continent to Europe. From there, they went to the newly discovered Americas, where they began to create a new life in Boston.
In 1643, Leila traveled back to her home, where she encountered the Huguenots that would settle in the Cape of Good Hope. She befriended a couple: Jacques Pinard and Marthe le Fèbre. Through them, she learned French and Dutch, and she became fascinated with learning languages. Leila went back to Boston in 1689 with three of the younger generation of the colony: Marion Levere and Anne and Claude Guyot. She helped them set up a life in a small town a bit away from the city. Claude and Marion wanted to start a family somewhere quiet, and Salem was beautiful in the fall. She returned to the other vampires with whom she had first come, and they invested in a textile company.
Leila returned to Salem in 1691, but tensions between humans and non-humans had been escalating rapidly, and Marion warned Leila to stay away for her own safety. Not even a year later, the Salem Witch Trials began, and Marion was tried and killed at the recommendation of Anne. Claude took their two-year-old daughter, Sophie, and fled to Boston. Leila helped them relocate down to Santa Fe, Florida, and she herself left for New Amsterdam, which would eventually be recreated into New York. Leila has changed her identity several times since then, but she has remained in the area to the present.
