Now Erik is an interesting character but my only gripe is the Lexicon of the Occult. My idea is that everyone is new or relatively oblivious to Magic and the Paranormal and learn about it through the ic (and the hard way). You can keep the book but maybe he doesn’t believe in it?
I was going to say the book covers folk lore but nothing relating to recollections supernatural stuff?

Erik stands at an easy six foot even, dressed in the latest clothing for any occasion it can make a statement in the room with his attire. It can bleak, stark blood red or full of grit, despair and hopelessness. Often seen sporting a signature leather jacket despite the climate along with jeans and black boots, Erik has his hair parted or gelled in a comb over fade. His face is denoted with tattoos of the time he spent with an Asian State Prison gang.
Erik is of an athletic build and carries himself with an air of authority, he looks like a killer but some might get the vibes of a poet or someone in search of their past. Hurt, distraught, and untrusting all good traits of a paranormal investigator.

Backstory ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ "I was just trying to get out of East LA, make a name for myself..."
Growing up in East LA, everyone was just trying to get out. Not everyone was fortunate to make it out the streets and those who did often ended up in Twin Towers Correctional Facility or in a shallow. Erik ended up working the streets at a young age, running with various groups and outfits to make a quick buck. Almost failing high school, Erik's life was changed forever when he ran into Eleanor Black. She was smart, somewhat of a nerdy yet she took an interest in Erik. Somewhat of a tough guy, a shot caller of sorts she saw potential in someone who saw nothing in themself. They kicked it off, soon becoming good friends before they began dating in Senior year. It was Eleanor who helped him back off from that lifestyle for better or for worse.
They both started university together, UCLA he went for an undetermined major and Erik couldn't remember what she was taking truth be told. She was there, always together, the pair were always happy. Eventually, all good things come to an end, the light turns to dark or things just turn sour. It was at the end of their second year when Eleanor had Erik take her to a warehouse within the ports. It was a strange date, but she had framed it as important. A discovery of a lifetime, there was an artifact one worth taking and making a pretty penny for. While crime was generally off for the books Erik agreed, as long as no one got hurt. The night was a blur, one thing led to another and Erik was in the port authorities' custody for a break 'n enter amongst some other felonies.
Everyone laughed when he brought up Eleanor Black, no one knew who he was talking about. Nothing showed up on the CCTV besides Erik breaking into the warehouse, a security guard was injured and some cargo was missing. The case against him was serious, a flimsy public defender got him a decent plea deal of 5 years considering the circumstances. Sitting up in TTCF, others knew who were Eleanor Black was but in their own ways. Was she some kind of supernatural con woman? Doing his time, Erik fell back into his ways and cliqued up with one of the prison gangs to stay relevant and safe.
Upon getting out he left California, starting up the business of paranormal investigation Erik was never one to leave without answers. The incident with Black had him curious, and he wasn't going to leave empty-handed. Despite being a gruff, felonious investigator he got some work here and there. Though it always felt like it came back to her, one night while on the web scrubbing for evidence of a vampire cult he came across the post. Quintin, Louisina would this be where he would get his closure? Or was it just another closed door.
