Oh right, it is sort of all over the place. Well regardless, there is presumably [/i]something[/i] over Billy's head, and it seems likely that there would be elevator access. If not, worst case scenario

So if I am understanding the situation right, I need to get to a floor above me to reach the minister, right?

If so, would it be ok to not go through the elevators at all? I know I cannot transfigure parts of things, but I figure Billy would know a "cut a hole in a wall" spell, and could cast it on the ceiling, then push himself upwards/transfigure himself into a bird and fly up, repeating until he's on the right floor to reach the minister.

If that doesn't work, how do you feel about people turning things into antimatter? Are there ready-made transfiguration spells that could turn, say, a dust mote weighing fractions of fractions of a milligram into antimatter? One milligram of antimatter would produce ~4.3 tons of TNT, so to have actual combat application it would need to be thousandths of that mass, which would get tricky, not to mention the world-changing applications of being able to transmute chirality at will [but that seems like something that would not be shared with muggles even under the loosest secrecy laws, for fear of antimatter warfare]

If I can neither blow them up with transfigured explosives nor just avoid them and go through the ceiling, I would like to bore through this corner and attack them from behind their barricade. It would probably lead to some casualties, but at least it is better than nothing. If that's not allowed, I think the easiest answer would be a barrage of Avada Kedavra, depending on if I could predict a reliable and safe exit vector for them, but that would require a detailed map and measuring spells at the very least, seeing as I would need to adjust for the depth of the ministry, the angle of the cast spell and the distance to the north sea, if it is even possible to avoid other underground populated areas, like deep basements or what have you.
Joshua immediately recognized the voice behind him, but turned to confirm. A particularly disheveled view of his tall superior officer, looming above him. He was tempted to crack a joke, or make some sort of lighthearted remark, but thought better of it. He knew that anyone in this convoy would be a mess of emotions, and one jocular remark to a superior officer could be taken as insubordination in the tumult. He simply smiled slightly, saluted normally, and responded in a friendly tone.

"Didn't mean anything by it, Commander. Just curious is all."

Joshua took a small step to the side, wiping the already-forming perspiration from his brow as he waited for a response. He wondered if the rest of the soldiers were as anxious as him. Maybe he was the only one frustrated, bored, and desperately looking for distraction. He wondered if the rest of them were going stir crazy. He hadn't spent this long out of potential combat zones in months, and it was bizarre. There were no patrols to make, not watches to be kept, no units to be kept scramble-ready, nothing. There was just sand, a popped tire, and yet more sand. It was almost surreal, and the surreality only heightened his anger at the situation.

Regardless, there was nothing to be done, so he would make the best of it. No sense being anything less than friendly to his fellow soldiers, so he waited patiently and politely in the short break in conversation.
Joshua felt the truck lurch underneath him, his arms shooting out to keep his seated form from toppling over. His back was pressed by the deceleration onto the smooth metal of the Suit behind him, the cool steel a comfort in the sweltering desert heat. He mentally thanked fortune for his seat under the tarp for the thousandth time, overjoyed to be out from the burning hot sun. As his back pushed into the metal, the computer on his lap pushed into his stomach, its glowing green-tinted screen the only light under the shadow of the tarp.

His fingers didn't stop their dance across the keys, despite the uncomfortable stop. He trusted the technicians, sure, but being stuck on this long trek to a surrender that still galled him, he needed to find something to occupy himself with, and ensuring the erasure of pertinent data had seemed like a good investment of his time. He may be surrendering to the Feds, but that didn't mean he had to like it, and it certainly didn't mean he had to make life easy for them.

Unfortunately for Joshua, one can only make sure the same data is deleted for so long, and by now he had long since exhausted his modest computational knowledge and was just making work for himself. With one last wipe of the navigational computer, he extricated himself from the truck bed and exposed himself to the outside for the first time in hours.

It was not a pleasant experience. Earth was magnificent, and needed to be preserved at all costs, but Joshua found it hard to feel connected to this blasted, forsaken wasteland. He was still not quite used to the heat, for one, and though he had learned early that sunscreen was a soldier's best friend, he had not gotten used to the burning on his arms and neck. His olive sleeves were rolled up, his booted feet sank ever so slightly into the blistering sands, impeding his walk towards the gaggle of soldiers gathered around the front of the transport.

He approached the group, hungry for some sort of interaction and eager to take his unoccupied mind off surrender, he made his way towards the short frame of Lieutenant Tyranne, stopping just behind the man before he spoke, his voice raspy from disuse and dust accumulation.

"Enjoying the trip, Tyranne?"
I just meant "has read the Army survival manual and is ready to go innawoods", not "is a for real survivalist, or has any formal training"
Though, we should probably all adhere to one structure, so I think I'll just make my character a lieutenant for ease, to keep with the established Pilot structure.

Auto, if you could change Gordon to an Lt, that'd be grand. We'll say he was promoted from the ranks due to the chaos of the war, to explain how after his long service he is only O-2.
I figured that too, but seeing as we're working with ground mechs in a thoroughly army rank structure, I thought they would more resemble tankers, despite the single crew oddness.
The Zeon Military wasn't all that new, it had been around for over a decade before the one year war started, but like I said massive casualty rates would push someone up enlisted ranks much faster than usual, and my character is easily old enough to hold his rank even without such increases in speed.

The stories of the late-war Japanese Air Force is a good example of this: shit was a disaster for all involved.
I understand that, trust me I do. Vehicle crew ranks function slightly differently for one, and I figured that because Zeon got so fucked during the war [to the point that they were essentially out of pilots to let the goog and dom win] promotions would be fast coming.

The thing is, Sergeant Major is E-6 for Zeon, E-9 for NATO. So while you're right that he is in fact way to young to be an SM if he were serving under the USA, it would only take 8 or 9 years to reach E-6, which is the amount of time he has been serving. In addition, he is serving during a time when experienced pilots are almost all dead, so there is plenty of space for him to fill and plenty of impetus for him to get promoted.

It is good to see someone else with some knowledge of the military however. So often I get into military RPs then cringe because no-one can reach the unrealistic standards of that most pedantic of beasts: the Military History major on forum RP sites.
I had a hard time deciphering the Zeon rank structure, and while the Zeon space forces resemble modern navies, the ground forces have a completely different rank structure, and as such I figured since we are under ground force command [which is straight up Army ranks], I should rank my character as though he were in the army. As such, he is a Sergeant, seeing as he is the solo operator of an armored element.

Also, seeing as I was stuck over in the other board like an idiot, I didn't realize that JESUS CHRIST do we have a veteran group. By the end of the One Year War Zeon was pretty much out of veteran pilots, but we have three and a half attached to a supply group.
