Hey, hi. Yo. What's up? Wait, no, don't answer that; I don't actually care. But hey, chin up there, buddy. Don't take it personally. I'm just an ass. To everybody. Nope, it's not just you. You actually make my day. You're beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you otherwi- Hey, there's that award-winning smile we all love. Now, why don't we sit down and you can tell me all about how you've been over a nice cup of coffee? Sounds good, right? Cool. Comfy? The seat cushions are made from silk and orphan tears. Now, how was your day? Oh, wait, that's right... I don't care.
So I'm Exodus. Call me Ex. Or Exodus. Or whatever, just don't call me late for dinner. Hah. Hahah. Hahahahah. I'm not funny.
They'd be the third from the left / second from the right, on the top row, but with a hooded cloak like robes next to them. The lighter spots are gray, and the darker spots are black. Pretty much exactly how they look.
Mental Description: As a 'Gray Jedi,' others would claim Varik walks the line between the Light and Dark sides of the Force. The way he sees it, the Force is neutral, and doesn't require a commitment to either side. He's even gone as far as to codify his beliefs:
'Amidst emotion, seek serenity. In serenity, seek passion. With passion, seek knowledge. With knowledge, seek balance. Through balance, know the Force.'
He was raised in traditional Jedi beliefs, although he always questioned some; namely denying passion and emotion. He can be considered very similar to Qui Gon Jinn, except Varik is pushing even further away from the direction of the council than Jinn had. Varik is very progressive, considering the traditional nature of the Jedi. The council is wary of this, though they (barely) tolerate it because of his continued resistance to corruption.
Despite his disagreements with Mace Windu, his influences on Varik are abundantly clear. He's inherited a confidence in his abilities and the courage to match. He's humbler than Windu, less prideful (though this may be justified. Despite Varik's high skill level, Windu is still the superior dueler). While they both believe that Jedi should serve the people of the Republic, Windu feels the need to preserve the Republic at all costs to protect the people, Varik feels that the people should be allowed to make the choices of what they need for themselves (including breaking from the Republic, now that the Sith are removed from the equation).
As a person, he's very even-tempered, open-minded, and flexible. He has to be, and has conditioned himself to be. He also has the tendency to overthink things, and for better or worse, is a bit of a romantic. He's in-tune with his emotions, embracing them rather than shutting them in. He keeps himself in balance with both the dark and the light with intense mental focus.
History: Varik was born to the Tharn family, a young couple of farmers in Naboo's Lake Country. As he matured, he started showing signs of Force sensitivity. Not wanting to lose their boy, the Tharns were reluctant to call attention to it, but it was only a matter of time until it was noticed. One of the neighbors summoned the Jedi to investigate, and they were able to talk Varik's family into giving him up for Jedi training. They would miss their son of course, but took pride in knowing that one day he'd be a great Jedi himself.
He took the training easily enough. He was as talented with the Force as any initiate, but his dueling skills were exceptional enough to be noticed by Master Mace Windu during the selection of padawans. During this time, he trained extensively in dueling alongside his master, in several forms with different weapons. In time, he chose the saberstaff as his preferred lightsaber. After studying the weapon's origins, he built the hilt to shorten/extend like Exar Kun's original model, so it could be used either as a saberstaff or a single lightsaber. He also started carrying a second standard lightsaber, not only as a backup, but to allow him to dual-wield when it would prove more efficient.
Throughout his Jedi Trials, Master Windu became increasingly worried of his student's closeness to the dark side. He was eventually able to teach Varik (with an immense amount of effort on both of their parts) a very basic technique of battle meditation, just enough to clear his own mind of an emotion gone too far. A failsafe, really, to ensure that if he happened to trip while walking the line, he'd fall towards the light side. Nevertheless, he never lost his way, and was promoted to a Jedi Knight with no major issues.
Soon enough, the Clone Wars began. There isn't much to say specifically, other than that he participated in just about as many battles as most of the other Jedi had. He was promoted to Master for his actions in the war shortly before Mace Windu ended Palpatine's life. However, the war continued past that. Without the Sith backing the Separatist Movement, though, Varik struggled to come up with a reason to disallow them from removing themselves from the Republic. After all, the Jedi's obligation was to the people, not the government. If the people felt it was best for them to go, then they should be allowed to make that choice for themselves. He's continued fighting for the Republic, but it seems the longer he fights, the less he feels he's doing the right thing...
Equipment: He carries two lightsabers: - His go-to is a yellow saberstaff, similar to Exar Kun's in that the hilt is retractable rather than stuck in 'saberstaff size.' - The other is a standard lightsaber with a purple blade, for back-up / dual-wield purposes.
Note, he does NOT dual wield them while the staff is extended. That would be ridiculous for a human.
Other: - His force abilities on either side are really nothing special. - All he'd need to switch sides is the right kind of push.
Can you point to a specific instance from one of the six movies, Clone Wars, The Clone Wars, or Rebels where a crystal provided a benefit or a shortcoming?
Gameplay mechanics are not a valid reason.
If you're being a holdout for Disney's new canon, then no, I don't think so. That said, there were at least a couple crystals in the the old canon (actually in the comic books) that supposedly had powers. By name, all I can offer you is the Kaiburr crystal (Luke mentioned them when he was talking about lightsaber creation), though I'm sure a quick trip to the Star Wars wiki would give you a few more.
I'm thinking of making a character. Not 100% sure, but I thought I'd chime in with that and this. They'll more than likely be a separatist, given the amount of Republic characters. Maybe a gray Jedi or a bounty hunter.
Appearance: He appears pretty much the same as any other goblin, with the exception of ever-so-slightly darker skin. He's got bright yellow eyes.
Personality: Naturally he'd have been a pretty calm, quiet person; not being too fazed by a lot of things, probably a healthy amount of self-esteem, actually willing to participate in activities, the kind of "I'll only speak when I've got something to say" type, y'know. But, having that constant fear of spontaneous combustion just makes him (justifiably) really anxious and jittery. He firmly believes that it'll screw him over or outright kill him (not to mention it just being painful), and given that it can be triggered (for example, if he's more on-edge than usual, and something spooks him, he could light up), he doesn't like to do things. He doesn't want to hurt people (self-defense aside), or set fire to buildings, and he knows very well that he poses that danger. I guess to sum it up, he'd think "I could seriously hurt people, so I'd rather sit here and not take the chance." A little misguided, but his heart's in the right place.
Past Life History: He was actually a pretty outgoing guy in his past life. Fire had always soothed him, there was just something mesmerizing about it. He loved camping, barbeques, beach bonfires at sundown, you name it. He was social, and often got friends together for those kinds of activities, though he was a bit of a straight arrow. Unfortunately, on his way to work one day, he was turning when his car was broadsided by a man who was speeding down the other road and tried to run the light. Both of them were killed in the crash.
Skill: He's got a fire affinity, able to light himself on fire on command. Unfortunately, his degree of control is still rather weak, and this does actually burn him. He can only ignite his hands at will. Other parts of his body have proven to ignite as well, though he can't force it to happen. They're random, unintentional, and 99% of the time unwanted. The injuries to himself never seem to be horrible, so he must have at least a slight natural resistance as well, though they're obviously still unpleasant enough to cover up.
Other: Will slowly sustain burns by his powers, and he'll start covering up the wounds in bandages.
Ooh, I gotcha. Sorry, I guess I misunderstood the whole newborn thing. I was assuming they've actually lived a little bit of life beforehand, not just straight up newborns at the beginning of the RP. Which explains the bandages, burns, and pain tolerance thing seeming a little strange. The burns and pain tolerance were supposed to be from his powers acting up, I didn't mean for them to be tied to his past life. I'll have them develop through the RP then, as fitting.
As for rolling the d100, that's actually a pretty fun idea. Hell, go ahead and roll it occasionally even when he doesn't use his powers. I mean, I imagined it happening any time. He can put them out, but it takes long enough to allow it to be a nuisance or comic effect.
For his personality... I'd imagine naturally he'd have been a pretty calm, quiet person. Not being too fazed by a lot of things, probably a healthy amount of self-esteem, actually willing to participate in activities, the kind of "I'll only speak when I've got something to say" type, y'know. But, having that constant fear of spontaneous combustion just makes him (justifiably) really anxious and jittery. So since he's a newborn, I suppose he would start out as that calm person. Then he'd start to get really skittish after igniting a few times, but after some development of his power then the original personality would start shining through again.
I'll revise the sheet with all of this, of course. Is there any more to change?
Alright, here he is. I noticed a lot of people were going for affinities too, so I tried to go with something a little more power-based. Wasn't sure what the limits were, so let me know if it needs tweaking.

Beck had about six steps into the door before he was standing in front of Superman himself. He froze. Superman. The hero seemed to be on his way to somewhere or other within the HQ, but stopped for a moment when he saw Beck.
"Frostbite! For a little while, I thought Ice wasn't going to have you join."
Beck was completely paralyzed at this point, and his duffel bag slipped off his shoulder. Thankfully, he was too stiff to drop the cardboard box he was holding in his other arm. He didn't know quite what to say to the man standing in front of him, his mind having gone completely blank. Superman had a powerful presence, even in such a casual situation.
"Y-Yessir, I-I think it'll be good for me. Experierence on uh, a larger team, y-y'know?"
Superman nodded.
"It will. I'm glad you could make it."
He must have been able to tell Beck was starstruck. Superman. He was used to it. He had to be. However, he seemed to disappear down the hall just as quickly as he had appeared, and Beck was once again left alone. It wasn't long, however, before he found a group in the hallway. The other new Young Justice members, he assumed. Perhaps it would be better to get aquainted now.
"Oh, hey, all. You must be my teammates. I'm Frostbite. Uh. Ice powers. But my name is Beck."
Sorry. I've been pretty busy these last couple days. Trying to find a job, personal projects, y'know. Stuff comes up. I'll get my promised post in ASAP.
