Tamashii
Tamashi glanced over her shoulder at the man in the vest, seeing him shake his head she frowned at him, rolling the knife in her hand as she listened to his words knowing he was right she suppressed a growl of irritation and forced herself to remain where she was. Patience was not her forte, she kept her eyes peeled for other animated corpses turning so her back was to the light haired guys shoulder that way she could watch behind them as well as in front of them, before long she couldn’t take it anymore...she needed to get back to Mercy as soon as possible. “Screw this nothing else is coming” She grumbled at the guy turning to face the three things in front of them she listened as he spoke of the mysterious shooter. “You have a point...but we can’t stay here and wait for much longer, who knows how many more of those things will be attracted here because of that noise” She pointed out, before she quietened down listening to his plan of action she simply nodded her head moving to his other side and focusing her eyes on the shambling corpse on the left hand side, she had barely taken a step forward when a man in a bathrobe stumbled out of one of the doors ahead of them, she felt her breath hitch painfully in her throat as he stared them with wide eyes and a crazed expression, when she noticed the gun in his hand she instantly dropped her free hand to her waist resting it on the handle of her handgun pulling the weapon slowly from its holster careful not to alarm the man.
She heard the vest guy whisper her name and state his purpose, her hazel brown eyes were focused on the man she could see what he was doing, she flinched as the gun fell through the mans hands, her stomach dropped as the sound drew the attention of the 3 corpses, 3 pairs of cloudy white and yellow eyes seemed to focus on them. “Damn it” Tamashii hissed under her breath, dropping the handgun back into her holster, she turned a little towards the vest guy watching him test the weight of the slender throwing knife before he stepped forward and expertly sent it hurtling towards the gunman, she had little time to admire his finesse however as the three shambling creatures were practically upon them in mere seconds. She turned sideways pulling her foot back before slamming it into one of the creatures chest with enough force to make it stumble back, just as another came up on her left side its hands clawing at her, she batted its arms away from her slamming her body into its side and pushing it against the house as she brought her knife up, thrusting it through the creature’s skull with minor resistance from its soft flesh, she wrinkled her nose as she tugged the blade free with a quick jerk, gore clung to the sleek metal and dirty blood spurted out onto her filthy shirt, she was barely able to turn before another undead creature was upon her, she ducked away from its clawing fingers, dropping to the floor she spun her leg round sweeping the creatures legs out from underneath it, the sickening crack that resounded through the air caused her stomach to twist in disgust as it collapsed to the floor, still trying to reach her, she pulled her arm up positing the blade above the corpses head as it lurched at her rotting teeth bared she buried her blade into its eye socket, twisting the weapon for good measure before withdrawing it.
She glanced up at the vest guy hoping he had handled the other creature without ill effect. “Screw this...he doesn’t look like he has anything we can use” Tamashii panted to the guy in the vest, getting to her feet unsteadily she walked over to the downed gunman showing no remorse for his misfortune she swooped down and picked up the gun lying beside him, opening the magazine she counted 2 unused bullets, it was better than nothing “Here there is at least two shots left should we need them” She told her companion, holding the gun out towards him before reaching for the throwing knife jerking it free of the man’s forehead she also handed that back to him. “We can either search his house or we head back and get the other two...this way looks fairly clear to me, could be a fast way through this town” She stated giving him the choice, she owed him that much...if he hadn’t been with her, she clicked her tongue in irritation pushing the thought away.
Mercy
Mercy had pulled her bow across her back returning her arrows to her quiver she had armed herself with the rusty hammer Tamashii had given to her earlier. She tried to keep her hands steady though she was trembling as she led the young redhead through the gardens, carefully negotiating the tedious obstacles before them. They had almost reached the building when the first risen pounced at them arms flailing at the redhead who was fast and dodged out of its way, with her heart in her throat Mercy had swung the hammer at the creature catching it in the back of the head which instantly caved in under the force of the flow and sent it to the floor in a crumpled heap beside them. Mercy’s breath left her body in a rattling exhale as she stared at the body for a few moments making sure it wasn’t going to get back up, her heart was racing within her chest spreading a fresh wave of adrenaline through her system as they continued on.
Once they reached the building Mercy signaled for the girl to stand to the side as she held the hammer at the ready and moved towards what she could only assume was the door to the back room of the convenience store, taking a deep breath she reached for the handle, she couldn’t hide her surprise as the door clicked open without any resistance. She signaled for the redhead to stand in the doorway hoping the girl would think to watch the outside for any corpses that may appear, once the young girl was stood behind her she slowly walked into the room, it was a small stuffy office with a desk tucked into the corner and filing cabinets scattered along the walls, the mahogany desk looked as if it had been swiped clear of clutter judging by the scattered paper that was spread across the floor around it along with a broken lamp and various other pieces of stationary the two far walls were covered in blinds leading her to believe they were in fact windows probably facing out into the small store there was another window to her right which she was sure looked out onto the road, directly across from her was a closed door which with any luck would lead out into the store. Mercy’s eyes flickered around the room looking intently for any signs of movement, seeing none she stepped out into the room spinning on the spot to check the only hidden place left behind the door, she exhaled in relief when she found nothing behind it but a china plaque that held keys.
She motioned for the young redhead to enter the room, quickly and silently closing the door behind her, she turned back to face the redhead as she spoke. She felt fear worm its way into her mind, though she refused to show her feelings she smiled reassuringly at the young red head. “Hopefully for a while, this place doesn’t look like it’s been damaged to badly” She commented, looking back at the door a part of her wanted to put the desk in front of it just in case but another part of her didn’t want to close off their only exit without knowing what was behind the other door first. She dropped her gaze to the floor as she processed the girl’s other whispered comment. “You and I both” She murmured in reply, concern mixing with her fear as she cast her thoughts to Tamashii and the vest guy she had gone with. She wouldn’t know what to do if anything happened to her companion...She was pulled from her thoughts as she heard the youngster sigh, looking over at her Mercy realized she had moved over to the window and was peeking out of it. “I’m going to look out the front, you can stay here if you want where its safe or you can come with me...just remember to stay close” Mercy announced in a quiet voice moving over to the door that lead to the front of the store, readying her gore splattered hammer she pushed the door open and carefully but surely moved into the store front keeping close to the towering displays as she moved quietly through the aisles, there were literally only a few.
