Okay sorry for caps but I tell you I was thinkign about that if tdid not exist I would have to make it and here we are. Anyway, if I was allowed in, how about a character who is a monk, sent by whatever religion you might found contextually convenient deeply formated in environmental and terraforming science. He is there to make sure that the Church Interests are well represented in this brave world but he is more the idealist type, naive to him being puppeted under shadowy politics.
EDIT: If possible, I'd be interested in the Chief of Agronomy and Farming Operations role
Hey, I needed to write this fast before Christmas holidays steal my freedom to write here, so I apollogize for the style and typos. Still, as it is my application and not a finished work, I please ask for feedback and collaboration from other players.
Nation Application Name Of Country: Exiled Republic of Mahavira
Great Consul Asura Tagorelai: She rose to the power as the leader of the Shipyard Revolution, and her pacts with the Rajas positioned her as the only person integrating the displeased masses and the degenerated aristocracy. The 9 Raja: Each Raja is the highest responsible for a portion of the fleet remnants Notable among them are the Raja Joh Sahmullassan, in charge of the Floating Gardens, Raja Saba Bayyarkan, Leader of the 1st and 2nd Expeditions.
In appereance, few traits would distinguish anatomically a Mahaviran from his terran antecessors. It at the genetic, metabolic, where the engineered mutations start to shine. For long centuries the improved generations of the shipyard worker caste and the self-absorved eugenetically improved aristocratic elite diverged into a very different genomical humanity. A higher caste Mahaviran can live over 200 years with splendid health and mental capabilities. On the other hand, the lower castes are adapted to low-gravity working conditions, radiation exposure and some other pragmatical features for their work environment by engineered mutations and xeno-DNA incorporation. Descendants of parents from lowest and highest castes, both having pushed too far the limits of humanity, are often aflicted by enigmatic mental disesases, that they can only satisfy with dark hedonism. On top of this, cyberaugmentations are common for those who can afford them, and thus Mahavirans are well beyond their terran essence.
Allegiance: Alligned with non-humans
Oligarchic republic The Great Consul is elected by the Raja, each of who administrate a small portion of the exiled fleet. Although this gives the Rajas, members of the most shameless aristocracy a huge control over the whole Republic, the actual Great Consul moderates in favor to the lower chastes. Each Raja has independence in the management of their fleet, but they collaborate for the sake of the reestablishment of the Mahaviran nation.
Military Strategy The republic makes used of a heterogeneous mix of heavy, medium and swarming fighters fleet from what could be rescued during their escape from their lost original planet, as well as salvaged ships recovered in military action and a creatively readapted array of civilian ships. While their ships would be considered to be some of the most tecnologically advanced among the terrans, the impossibility of maintaning effectively the different ships puts the Republic fleet in a estrategically desperate position.
In combat, they value speed and precission over overwhelming power, and they use any range of dirty tricks aviable to be able to survive. A fleet will typically fastly deploy forward jumpgates from which a swarm of fighters and corvettes emerges, swiftly incapacitating key targets with electronic warfare (taking the control or disarming enemy ships with informatic attacks), realeasing some devastating salves and disappearing before the enemy can answer back. Given a suitiable ocasion, they try to capture any enemy ship and incorporate them into their fleet.
The Republic lacks the capacity of performing ground combat in planets, due to the improvised nature of their military, but they rather covered operations of sabotage, terrorism and propaganda rather than confronting enemies in a much less delicate situation than them.
- Mahavira was a mostly oceanic planet colonized by independent terran settlers before the consolidation of the former Terran empire. However, due to its frontier position and to the presence of abundant valious rare metal deposits the Empire, it occupied 600 years ago.
- During the ocupation period Mahavira was the center of frenetic development, as the Imperial culture and technology spread. Initially, the local aristocracy was firmly controlled by the Imperial secret services, ocupational forces, and most important of all, by the heavy tribute that was imposed to the Empire. However, the political cunning of the Mahaviran elite allowed the planet no to be fully integrated into the imperial administration.
- 170 years after the ocupation started, the construction of the great shipyard of Mahavira was comanded. This magnificient piece of engineering orbited in perpetuous frenzy and production, and even if it was in service to the Empire, the mahaviran Rajas managed to hold firm control of their own planet. In this period, having earned the trust of the Empire, the planet was released from militar presence, but the Empire kept controlling the planet mostly due to their gifts and generosity with the local rulers, and the stablishment of a puppet monarch, the Sultan. The Empire provided all kinds of luxuries to the rulers as they ensured year after year the delivery of ships, metals and FTL engines.
- During this period, Mahaviran culture flourished and some emigrants earned Imperial citizenship. Mahaviran art was highly regarded and this allowed the local aristocrats to buy more rights. During this period, the big breach between the planet-dwelling, noble mahavirans and the shipyard peoples grew larger, specially as, in disobeyance to the imperial rule, the Rajas started in secret a program of genetic improvement for each of the castes. Also not respecting the imperial rule, xenos were welcomed to the palaces and extensive study of their genomes was performed in accordance with the undergoing chaste genetic enhancement program. The Empire ordered a trade embargo against Mahavira pushing their unclean inclinations, and during this time, many Mahavira traders were forced to become smugglers, giving them a rich knowledge of the secret pathways between the stars.
- 42 years ago, a great breaktrhough in FTL engine technology was achieved by Mahaviran scientists, and tthe production started secretly. 34 years later, when the Imperial intelligence reported the Mahaviran's unloyallity, they sent an Inspection Comission. But the Sultan, confident with they more relaxed relations with the empire and delusioned of his own power, refused to pay the yet ongoing Imperial Tribute.
- A Purge was called against Mahavira, on behalf of their betrayal to the Empire, their degenerate practices of genetic modification and their decadent and inmoral society. And so a punishing fleet was sent against Mahavira. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news of the incoming invasion, the centuries long social unrest of the shipyard people was channeled into the formation of a revolutionary government, which took over the Shipyard. Some Raja, in strong disagree with the Sultan decision, supported the shipyard chaste. The conspirations and negociations were sudenly halted by the first armed conflicts.
- In matter of 2 days, Mahavira was subject to mass orbital bombardments and the Shipyard was taken over by Imperial Troops. Following the execution of the Sultan, millions of genetically modified Mahavirans were systematicaly exterminated, without distinguishing caste and social position. Escaping from the mass genocide, the few Raja that were supporting the shipyard uprising stole few ships as the mobilization of the defense fleet occured and jumped to the hyperspace.
- Among the taken ships there was the Kilśallaar, an outstandingly enormous recreational ship property o the Sultan and many militar and civilian ships. The Kilśallaar, under heavy fire from the Imperial fleet, could not succesfully complete the entrance into hyperspace, and the jump caused the sheip to be damaged beyond reparations, and a myriad of fragments spread through the jump arc pattern in lonely corners of the galaxy. Two expeditions were succesfully sent to wreckage remains located by the security long distance coded beacon only known to the Rajas.
- The fleet was pursuited for two years until the empire lost track of them, when they reached uncharted regions of the galaxy. During this two years, the shipyard revolution was betrayed and the old aristocracy was reestablished. However, given the independency of the different fleet sections, power was descentralized and the Exiled Republic was organized around the Rajas who survived the masacre, with the Great Consul as a fake figure, shadow of the betrayed democratization.
- Since then, the Exiled Mahavirans have descended into a crisis of their identity and fate. While the elites have been strenghed by trading and selling the treasures recovered from the Kilśallaar, and engaging in illegal trade of slaves, narcotics and other forbidden goods. However, the lowe caste has not forgotten their brief taste of freedom and wait for the a chance to regain their freedom. For now, both Rajas and the lay people cooperate for the reconquer of their homeworld.
Other: The Exiled Republic of Mahavira has issued an offitial communication claiming the rights of resettling Mahavira system and prospecting the wreck of the shipyard. This territory ideally would belong to other player faction. Additionally, the republic has asked to join the United Galactic conference and has announced their demand for reparations and their right to be assigned a system for settling.
Oh and, I imagine all of you are very busy with Christmas, but let's hope that the good posts will be stil coming during these holidays. Let us keep the story high on! Merry Christmas
If so, I would like to join. I am a great fan of the Homeworld saga so I'd like to go with some faction in the exile. Preferably, this exiled would have been the consequence of a still ongoing war against some other player nation/s.
Yes you can. But the point here is humbleness and contributing to the history. I would dislike lore being created just for the sake of leaning the events too heavily in benefit of your Clan. That is, lore is to be shared and not to be used to win.
And there will be GM controlled characters, but I am more interested in what you do with the pieces than forcing the history in a particular direction. As you use the characters and lore, we improvise together, even if I have many story paths in mind.
I do not know if this is something everyone may like, but I hope this NRP to host this kind of collaborative narrative if it pleases you all.
Maybe a good comparison could be that the Valley is as big as one third of Switzerland. Walking from east shore to west shore of the lake might take 3 days perhaps, but the mountainside slows the way notably, so from the West Pass to the southern one we can consider easily 10 days.
It is a small valley after all!
@Wernher Very interesting post. I am very glad of you contribution to the history, not only because is beatifully written but because I crave to see confrontation and you political maneuvers are surely going to provoke great replies.
Oh please feel free to roleplay the caravan. These rumours are meant to spice up the situation and add some interaction and open ways for you players to use them or ignore them as you like.
