Ok. We'll go with that. I just wanted a solid yes/no before I get started on my history section. I'm hoping to have my sheet up tonight, but as I have plans... What happens happens I guess. =P
Here's what I've got thus far. Not quite done, but should be more than enough to give you an idea of what to expect.
Humankind Empire of Ithica
Ruler (De Jure): Emperor Adrien III Karling Ruler (De Facto): Chancellor Lucien Chardin Species: Terrans (40%) Near-Human Species (26%) Nerkin (17%) Nalloth (15%) Other Xeno Species (2%) Species Description (Only For Non-Humans): WIP Allegiance: Human Aligned Government Type (De Jure): Constitutional Monarchy Government Type (De Facto): Fascist Dictatorship
The government is ruled by the reigning monarch, whose powers are limited by a constitution. A parliamentary body, elected by individual planetary populations, helps with the administration of the government while ensuring that the needs of the citizens are met without infringing upon their constitutional rights. The reigning monarch assigns viceroys to govern over star systems and individual planets. These viceroy assignments are held until the viceroy either dies, retires, or is recalled by the monarch.
That is, of course, according to the constitution. In reality a fascist pro-humanity political party known as Humanity United has control over the Imperial parliament and has used its immense influence to essential usurp power from the Emperor, while keeping him on the throne as a figurehead.
Humanity United: The current dominant force in the Empire, Humanity United is the enemy of all the other warring factions in the civil war. Humanity United is a fascist pro-human supremacy group that currently controls the Imperial parliament. Their power is greatest amongst what is known in the Empire as the “core worlds”, with the “rim worlds” having widely resisted its attempts to exert control to this point.
The Coalition for Imperial Constitutionalism: Commonly shortened to the Constitutionalists, this group was the first of the rebellious groups to rise up and is also the strongest. The Constitutionalists are made up of planetary governments, viceroyalties, and military officers who wish to the monarch’s power brought back and the Constitutional rights of the citizenry upheld by the rightful and legal government.
The Alliance for Liberty: Made up of the remnants of the Liberty Party, the political party in power before Humanity United, the Alliance for Liberty is now considered a fringe group in the Coalition for Imperial Constitutionalism. The Alliance for Liberty is significant in that it wishes to not only defeat the Fascists, but also replace the monarchy with a fully democratic power, or at the very least see the parliament empowered after Humanity United is defeated.
The Nerkin Nationalist Front: While fighting alongside the Constitutionalists, the Nerkin Nationalist Front has the end goal of either achieving independence or at the very least being recognized as a semi-autonomous state within the Empire. While comparably weak now, and operating with little to no supplies, the Nerkin Nationalist Front has the potential to become fairly powerful should they receive supplies and training.
The Viceroyalty of Cormyral: A powerful viceroyalty and home to the Nalloth species, the Viceroyalty of Cormyral has thus far remained official neutral in the conflict while providing material, logistical, and intelligence support to the Coalition for Imperial Constitutionalism. Home to a large industrial base, not to mention one of the largest shipyards in the Empire, the Viceroyalty of Cormyral has the potential to tip the balance of power in the Constitutionalists’ favor given enough time and should it enter the conflict in full. Unfortunately the native Nalloth species fears the Nerkin Nationalist Front enough that, should they grow in power, the viceroyalty may withdraw its support for the Constitutionalists and attempt to achieve independence for itself.
The Imperial Guard: Another faction that could make a difference in the outcome of the conflict is the Imperial Guard. While comparably small in size, the Imperial Guard is well trained and equipped, even possessing a small fleet of its own that contains a few battleships. The Imperial Guards answer only to the Imperial family, thus are not required to aid Humanity United. Only time will tell if the Imperial Guard will cave in to pressure from Humanity United, aid the Constitutionalists, or continue to watch from the sidelines.
Military Strategy (Small Amount Of Large Ships, Large Amount Of Small Ships, etc...):
Sensing that the end of the Terran Empire was on the horizon roughly two hundred years before it actually fell, the Karling family, rulers of the then comparatively unimportant world of Carth, began to prepare for the inevitable. The construction of a shipyard allowed the creation of Carth’s self defense forces. This action was initially met with some resistance from the Imperial government, which assumed that Carth was preparing to rebel. When Carth instead used its military forces to force rebelling planets to return to the Empire, the Imperial government decided to name the Karlings as the defenders of the region and gave them additional military forces, as well as allowing them to administer the planets that they reconquered for the Empire.
By the time that the Empire had fallen, Carth had created its own small empire within the Empire. When Emperor Justas died, the Karlings were amongst the first of the nobility to declare their independence. The next day they declared that Carth was now the capital of the new Kingdom of Ithica. For the next fifty years Ithica expanded by any means possible. It was towards the end of this era of rapid expansion that an event called the Cormyrean War took place. Thus far Ithica had conquered only planets with predominantly human populations, but this came to an end as Ithica’s borders reached the waring xeno countries of Cormyral and the Nerkin Empire.
Using the pretense of protecting Cormyral’s native population from the bloodthirsty Nerkins, Ithica invaded the Nerkin Empire. When the Nerkin capital fell to Ithican forces three years later, marking the end of the war, Ithica wasted no time in establishing viceroyalties over what had previously been the Nerkin Empire and formally declaring the creation of the Ithican Empire. Several years later a referendum in Cormyral saw its peaceful annexation into the Ithican Empire in exchange for the local populations to be granted citizen status. While they were still considered to be second-class citizens, it was the first time that a xeno had been granted even the most basic of rights in the Ithican Empire.
This would lead to the Ithican Emperor granting expanded rights not only to its human citizens, but also its xeno citizens. While there were still many xeno slaves and “noncitizens” in the Ithican Empire, there was also a growing xeno-citizen population that held the same rights as human citizens.
It was this, amongst a few other factors, that would result in the Ithican-Enlightened War of 120 AT (After Terran). The war ended in an uneasy truce between the two warring powers after neither side made any significant gains in five years of combat. While the Ithican Empire officially won the war, it's arguable that the Enlightened State was the true winner. The war allowed the fascist pro-human supremacy party Humanity United to assume control over the Empire’s parliament. After the war ended Humanity United quickly took power away from the Emperor, while keeping him around as a figurehead, and consolidated its power over the Empire. Following its rise to power Humanity United declared the formation of the Humankind Empire of Ithica.
Finally, after thirty years, things have come to a head within the Empire.
Hey, I needed to write this fast before Christmas holidays steal my freedom to write here, so I apollogize for the style and typos. Still, as it is my application and not a finished work, I please ask for feedback and collaboration from other players.
Nation Application Name Of Country: Exiled Republic of Mahavira
Great Consul Asura Tagorelai: She rose to the power as the leader of the Shipyard Revolution, and her pacts with the Rajas positioned her as the only person integrating the displeased masses and the degenerated aristocracy. The 9 Raja: Each Raja is the highest responsible for a portion of the fleet remnants Notable among them are the Raja Joh Sahmullassan, in charge of the Floating Gardens, Raja Saba Bayyarkan, Leader of the 1st and 2nd Expeditions.
In appereance, few traits would distinguish anatomically a Mahaviran from his terran antecessors. It at the genetic, metabolic, where the engineered mutations start to shine. For long centuries the improved generations of the shipyard worker caste and the self-absorved eugenetically improved aristocratic elite diverged into a very different genomical humanity. A higher caste Mahaviran can live over 200 years with splendid health and mental capabilities. On the other hand, the lower castes are adapted to low-gravity working conditions, radiation exposure and some other pragmatical features for their work environment by engineered mutations and xeno-DNA incorporation. Descendants of parents from lowest and highest castes, both having pushed too far the limits of humanity, are often aflicted by enigmatic mental disesases, that they can only satisfy with dark hedonism. On top of this, cyberaugmentations are common for those who can afford them, and thus Mahavirans are well beyond their terran essence.
Allegiance: Alligned with non-humans
Oligarchic republic The Great Consul is elected by the Raja, each of who administrate a small portion of the exiled fleet. Although this gives the Rajas, members of the most shameless aristocracy a huge control over the whole Republic, the actual Great Consul moderates in favor to the lower chastes. Each Raja has independence in the management of their fleet, but they collaborate for the sake of the reestablishment of the Mahaviran nation.
Military Strategy The republic makes used of a heterogeneous mix of heavy, medium and swarming fighters fleet from what could be rescued during their escape from their lost original planet, as well as salvaged ships recovered in military action and a creatively readapted array of civilian ships. While their ships would be considered to be some of the most tecnologically advanced among the terrans, the impossibility of maintaning effectively the different ships puts the Republic fleet in a estrategically desperate position.
In combat, they value speed and precission over overwhelming power, and they use any range of dirty tricks aviable to be able to survive. A fleet will typically fastly deploy forward jumpgates from which a swarm of fighters and corvettes emerges, swiftly incapacitating key targets with electronic warfare (taking the control or disarming enemy ships with informatic attacks), realeasing some devastating salves and disappearing before the enemy can answer back. Given a suitiable ocasion, they try to capture any enemy ship and incorporate them into their fleet.
The Republic lacks the capacity of performing ground combat in planets, due to the improvised nature of their military, but they rather covered operations of sabotage, terrorism and propaganda rather than confronting enemies in a much less delicate situation than them.
- Mahavira was a mostly oceanic planet colonized by independent terran settlers before the consolidation of the former Terran empire. However, due to its frontier position and to the presence of abundant valious rare metal deposits the Empire, it occupied 600 years ago.
- During the ocupation period Mahavira was the center of frenetic development, as the Imperial culture and technology spread. Initially, the local aristocracy was firmly controlled by the Imperial secret services, ocupational forces, and most important of all, by the heavy tribute that was imposed to the Empire. However, the political cunning of the Mahaviran elite allowed the planet no to be fully integrated into the imperial administration.
- 170 years after the ocupation started, the construction of the great shipyard of Mahavira was comanded. This magnificient piece of engineering orbited in perpetuous frenzy and production, and even if it was in service to the Empire, the mahaviran Rajas managed to hold firm control of their own planet. In this period, having earned the trust of the Empire, the planet was released from militar presence, but the Empire kept controlling the planet mostly due to their gifts and generosity with the local rulers, and the stablishment of a puppet monarch, the Sultan. The Empire provided all kinds of luxuries to the rulers as they ensured year after year the delivery of ships, metals and FTL engines.
- During this period, Mahaviran culture flourished and some emigrants earned Imperial citizenship. Mahaviran art was highly regarded and this allowed the local aristocrats to buy more rights. During this period, the big breach between the planet-dwelling, noble mahavirans and the shipyard peoples grew larger, specially as, in disobeyance to the imperial rule, the Rajas started in secret a program of genetic improvement for each of the castes. Also not respecting the imperial rule, xenos were welcomed to the palaces and extensive study of their genomes was performed in accordance with the undergoing chaste genetic enhancement program. The Empire ordered a trade embargo against Mahavira pushing their unclean inclinations, and during this time, many Mahavira traders were forced to become smugglers, giving them a rich knowledge of the secret pathways between the stars.
- 42 years ago, a great breaktrhough in FTL engine technology was achieved by Mahaviran scientists, and tthe production started secretly. 34 years later, when the Imperial intelligence reported the Mahaviran's unloyallity, they sent an Inspection Comission. But the Sultan, confident with they more relaxed relations with the empire and delusioned of his own power, refused to pay the yet ongoing Imperial Tribute.
- A Purge was called against Mahavira, on behalf of their betrayal to the Empire, their degenerate practices of genetic modification and their decadent and inmoral society. And so a punishing fleet was sent against Mahavira. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news of the incoming invasion, the centuries long social unrest of the shipyard people was channeled into the formation of a revolutionary government, which took over the Shipyard. Some Raja, in strong disagree with the Sultan decision, supported the shipyard chaste. The conspirations and negociations were sudenly halted by the first armed conflicts.
- In matter of 2 days, Mahavira was subject to mass orbital bombardments and the Shipyard was taken over by Imperial Troops. Following the execution of the Sultan, millions of genetically modified Mahavirans were systematicaly exterminated, without distinguishing caste and social position. Escaping from the mass genocide, the few Raja that were supporting the shipyard uprising stole few ships as the mobilization of the defense fleet occured and jumped to the hyperspace.
- Among the taken ships there was the Kilśallaar, an outstandingly enormous recreational ship property o the Sultan and many militar and civilian ships. The Kilśallaar, under heavy fire from the Imperial fleet, could not succesfully complete the entrance into hyperspace, and the jump caused the sheip to be damaged beyond reparations, and a myriad of fragments spread through the jump arc pattern in lonely corners of the galaxy. Two expeditions were succesfully sent to wreckage remains located by the security long distance coded beacon only known to the Rajas.
- The fleet was pursuited for two years until the empire lost track of them, when they reached uncharted regions of the galaxy. During this two years, the shipyard revolution was betrayed and the old aristocracy was reestablished. However, given the independency of the different fleet sections, power was descentralized and the Exiled Republic was organized around the Rajas who survived the masacre, with the Great Consul as a fake figure, shadow of the betrayed democratization.
- Since then, the Exiled Mahavirans have descended into a crisis of their identity and fate. While the elites have been strenghed by trading and selling the treasures recovered from the Kilśallaar, and engaging in illegal trade of slaves, narcotics and other forbidden goods. However, the lowe caste has not forgotten their brief taste of freedom and wait for the a chance to regain their freedom. For now, both Rajas and the lay people cooperate for the reconquer of their homeworld.
Other: The Exiled Republic of Mahavira has issued an offitial communication claiming the rights of resettling Mahavira system and prospecting the wreck of the shipyard. This territory ideally would belong to other player faction. Additionally, the republic has asked to join the United Galactic conference and has announced their demand for reparations and their right to be assigned a system for settling.
