Name: Alexandra Pierce
Nickname: Alex
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Animal: Rat

Appearance (Human): Alex has always tended to fade into the crowd. She’s not particularly short or tall, dark or pale, heavy or slender. She has mousy brown hair that she tends to keep tied back in a ponytail so it stays out of her face (which is often unsuccessful). Her favorite feature is her eyes, which are (again) brown, but with little flecks of amber.

Appearance (Mid Form): In her mid form, Alex gains a rat tail and her eyes go completely black. She gains an elevated sense of smell and hearing (better than human, but not as good as her rat form). She largely maintains her visual acuity in this form, but does lose some of her color perception, such that she becomes somewhat red-green colorblind.

Appearance (Rat): Alex’s rat form is unusually large (for a rat), but is nowhere near her human size, being approximately the size of a large cat. Alex’s fur in this form matches her hair coloring and is somewhat softer than the fur of wild rats. While her sense of smell and hearing increase dramatically in this form, her vision degrades. She does, however, gain the ability to see UV light.

Personality: Alex has an easygoing personality and is inclined to go with the flow. This also means that Alex isn’t always the most highly-motivated of individuals, and tends to be more of a follower than a leader. There are, however, some subjects on which she’ll take a stand. It takes a lot to upset her, but she can be exceptionally nasty once she’s angry. She also tends to be a bit selfish, though she is fairly loyal to her close friends.

History: Alex’s life has been largely uneventful up until her kidnapping. Two loving parents, a home in the suburbs, A’s and B’s in high school, and adequate performance in her first year of college. Alex does, however, have one or two secrets, one of which is that she wasn’t planning on returning to school for the next semester. The reason for that decision is another one of her secrets.

Whoopsie in my over-excitement. Sorry y'all.
@Hazmat: I'd be game!
If we do need significantly more characters, I'd be happy to do one more.
I didn't mean to criticize anyone's choices and I'm sorry if it read that way. Please accept these internet cookies as my apology.

What animals are OP?

They might be referring to the fact that every animal selected (apart from Fiddler's, Foxfire's, and mine) is an apex predator (fox, eagle, grizzly, lion, Tasmanian devil, etc.). I don't know how much that will be an issue, though, given that all the critters will have human intelligence driving them. That'll probably even the playing field substantially, as will the fact that we'll initially (I think) be stuck in our mid forms.
We're already starting to do that, though. We're working on 3D printing organs (whether they work or not is another thing altogether) so is it all that far fetched to say that some day we may be able to convert an entire creature into data instead of just an organ? It's all just information: this goes there, that here...Yes it would require a ridiculous amount of storage space, but it could (in theory) be done.

I think the far more unrealistic part of the Pokeball is the fact that it can reconstitute that data into a creature. How does it do that? Where is it pulling the raw materials from? We could argue that they're converting energy into matter each time the creature is recalled, but that's pretty out there and (one would imagine) require a huge power source to draw from.

I have seen theories that say Pokemon are actually just highly advanced digital constructs that inform a world-wide alternate reality game, that they don't actually have mass, just the appearance. However, I find that a bit hard to reconcile with all forms of canon (e.g., references to eating Magikarp, the use of Pokemon in construction). I guess you could argue that they're "hard light" holograms, but that's a bit hand-wavey for me, personally.

As for the impacts of the theories on the game we'll be playing... dot is requiring us all to have a background in biology, so the pokemon in the RP seem to be flesh and blood creatures.

A couple of questions:

1) Will the Pokemon be controlled by us, the GM, or a combination of both?

2) Do you want us to start posting characters?

3) Could I be a vet student (getting it in early XD )?
Re: Oak
I definitely agree. I feel like Birch might have been the young protege who felt that his mentor had missed an opportunity. We, of course, wouldn't know his full motivation though :)
