At first I misread Fate/Ellipses as Fate/Eclipse, which I thought sounded awesome. So I guess that's my vote.

This may be too much information, but I think all that is required for a holy grail war is a prepped leyline. Fuyuki has been used again and again because there has always been remnants of the grail after every war, since the war fails every time (I think). The leftovers mean that you don't have to wait as long to restart the ritual because the energy wasn't fully used. Think of the grail as a house that keeps getting knocked down by a storm, but part of the house survives so you only have to put up a wall or two to restore it. A lot faster then starting from scratch. So if a group of Magi wanted to build another ritual in say New York or Istanbul, then they can, provided there was a leyline. I say keep Fuyuki or just make up another fake city. Call it alternate time line or universe so we can get away from Heaven's Feel, unless that is our goal, which I vote against.
A university makes the most sense. I had planned to play the part of an older Master, so I can be some kind of staff easily. On that note, how soon are the servants going to be summoned? If it’s not for a couple dozen posts then everyone should make a non-servant to start with as so everyone can post and set up the setting, unless you don't mind waiting. Also the problem I find is that Fate RPs suffer from one side being favored over the other, ie six people wanting to be servants and two wanting to be masters. Does anyone have a good work around for this?

I'm indifferent on what servants we use, but I do like originality over cannon. Being overpowered would only be a problem if we are going against one another, or bad storytelling. (As no one likes a Mary sue)
Not a problem. I'm just doing my best not to spoil anything regarding Unlimited Blade Works, (because it is the best path). I'm not clear on how the cleansing of the grail works either, as I did not read Fate/Hallow, but I'm just brainstorming right now. What I do know is that someone did something they shouldn't have, and the grail was corrupted by negative emotions or something. Originally the grail could not summon "evil" heroes, but now it can. Which goes along with the idea that @Constantine had.

Magic has the benefit of being magic, so the how is not so important, or at least we don't have to worry about that for now. If you need clarification on anything in the future just ask me. That doesn't mean that everything needs to be right mind you, I just want to have fun. :)
Good to know. Then for a more adult centered plot, if we are going to ally rather than turn this into an arena type RP, a good motivation is that we band together to discover a way to cleanse the grail. To refrain from spoilers, all I am going to say is that there was a sequel to Fate/Stay called Fate/Halow. In short, the grail is complicated and dangerous, something we all should already know, either IC or OCC, you decide. With this most of what I said prior still stands, except the how we know each other or meet for the first time. Maybe we are tasked with this by the Mage's Association or the Church, which leaves room for both Enforcers and Executors.
Needless to say I'm interested. Also, I have some questions or points to make, so let’s get to building.

Since it looks like this is going to be before the war starts, are our characters from any of the canonical families, as they have the most to gain from the war and would have an extreme interest in participating. Also if they are those few characters would no doubt be groomed for the war. I vote we forget the families entirely as they each come with their own special set of rules or obligations.

Having said that, the war is not a secret, but it is spoken about less than you would think, among the magical community I mean. So how our characters stumble upon this grand event could be a good place to start, as well as us going around acquiring artifacts to summon servants. Since we are in school maybe a field trip to our local museum are in order. On the matter of stumbling, the church has a history of being dicks in this setting, so our local pastor could possibly persuade us to do this for the greater good.

With that, are we going with we are all friends? The very nature of the war is, well, not friendly. Again, the church can be pulling strings, but since this is the nasuverse there is also the possibility of vampires a la Tsukihime. Long term, betrayal can be a thing, but short term there are other things we can fight. The potential for drama is there in troves.

What do you all think?
How important magic is would depend on three factors I would think.

How does magic work?
Magic by its very nature falls under the rule of deus ex machina, so it needs to have rules lest anything goes. Personally I am a fan of settings where magic is an art rather than a talent. What I mean by this is that it involves an amount of time, energy and foresight, so simple magic could take minutes, and complex magic could take days, but the result would be god like. I also like when it is fast paced, think Last Avatar style.

What does magic do?
Since the bloodline has been watered down so to speak, it would be safe to say that magic becomes a specialty or better yet hereditary. So each magi has power over a specific aspect of magic. I'm thinking elemental, spiritual, divination, druidic (need to define what it means to be druid), healing, etc. Each one can be broken down further and further still. If this is not the case and magic lets you control the very fabric of the world, then I suppose power levels just dropped and where they were once able to move mountains, they can now only move stones, if magic was still a thing of course.

How many Maegi were there?
This is where importance is really determined. If the Maegi were less than 1% of the world, then the effects they had would not be too grand, but if all they created something that made life easier for everyone else, then the disruption would be much grander scale when what they created crumbled.

What I think is that after twenty years, the world would have adjusted well enough if magic wasn't the end all be all. Call it that the Conclave believed that man still needed to do for themselves and not rely on the power of the well. There would be those that abused their power, but the "good" Maegi would likely rise and route out the corruption if that happened. Maegi were likely sought out or made nobles so the capitals would feel it the most but the free cities may have only had one or two, so they would be relatively unaffected save for the world around them going to hell in a hand basket.

I would love to see what you already have for the setting, but getting on Skype can be problematic for me. The only thing I think needs to be flushed out are the cities, or at lease enough info for us to build them ourselves. So where they are in relation to one another, what their geography is like, what relations are like with each other, the type of government or number of people in power. The state of the country and its cities would be important to.
I like this idea, I also like building worlds, give everyone a better handle on telling a good story. If I could, I'd like to brainstorm some ideas.

How important was magic to the world? Obviously it played a huge roll but aside from throwing the world into chaos how wide were the effects? An event like this would strike me to be akin to the effects of the black plague, killing large portions of the population. If magic was a pillar of civilization, was it more of a luxury or a necessity, such as cities that existed in places man could not build, such as floating cities in the sky or on a lake, or magic to fight back natural elements, such as intolerable cold of the north. Heck, if magic was important in ocean trading can the ships sail properly now through routes that needed the aid of magic. Twenty years later this might be dealt with by then, but just a little bit to think about for back story, lore, and how the world works.

Aside from the environmental effects, the social and political effects would also be nothing to blink at if long distance communication leaned on magic even a little, then even after twenty years there may be cities or kingdoms that no one has heard from since the Well fell. There are also the ramifications of if a Maegi were in any sort of seat of power, that civil wars could break out for thrones, titles and land.

This is all a lot to talk and thing about so I just wanted to throw it out there.

On the note of the plague, this concept reminds me of the Spellplague from the Forgotten Realms D&D setting. Might be something to look up, as well as the Spellscarred.
So how is everyone doing today? Does anyone have any thought as to who's group they want to be in? I can see Aidan with pretty much anyone.
I think I can get into this. I'm interested in hearing more.
