Statement from Enver Hoxha, First Secretary of the Party of Labour of Albania

"Comrades, we rejoice in our freedom, in our independence, in our constant drive to achieve a full fledged socialist state! We are a small nations, we may lack resources but what we do not lack is our will, and a man's will can move mountains; not by his arm but by a machine. So what the government seeks right now is industrialization but, sadly, this will have to wait for some time, right now our comrades are facing hardships as well and we do not wish to burden them. And speak highly of those comrades that are fighting a great fight against imperialism, just as we did with the Italian fascists!

I refer to Fidel Castro, great leader of the Cuban people, liberator of the Caribbean island and a great man, just like every man in Cuba; I refer to Mao Zedong, great empowerer of the Asian people and a rising figure in the world of Socialism and of course, I refer to our closest ally, comrade Stalin, of which pictures can be seen all throughout Albania. It is he, who has led the USSR, that is a close friend to the Albanian people. These great people have engaged in open combat with imperialism, yet we, as a small nation who has faced many troubles with it, can't do much but see from the stands and defend ourselves from the waves of enemies that wash upon our shores, we can not engage in combat.

But we can do something else.

Right now, the highest expression of Imperialism finds itself in Africa, a heartland, the biggest continent on Earth and the most diverse one. How long has it been opressed under the boot of imperialism? For how long will it remain that way? Is it just complacent leaders that give way for their people to be abused or, like the Egyptians, will these people stand up. Although the Egyptian people have not achieved a complete liberation from opression, we salute them and wish them luck, for revolutions are the way to achieve real justice in this world. We can help Africa achieve a complete freedom. Most infamous among these examples of abuses made by the falling Empires is the Congo, genocide denied by the Belgian state. What atrocities have they commited to the African people, what any other things can we help to avoid?

The Albanian nation, closest socialist state to the African continent, seek support of their comrades to bring the colonization and opression of the many African states, under blantant colonialism that has been overlooked, to be able to decide for themselves, for their autonomy and independence. We, ourselves, will send whatever help we can to any state that undergoes a voluntary change of government, be it a revolution or a simple shake of the yoke of imperialism, both of these expressions of a major discontent by the opressed Africans. Weapons or resources, advisors or diplomats, we wish to assist a free Africa.

Thank you, comrades".

Yes, small nations suffering the opression of the workers, of their people. What has Albania faced throughout the years if not the struggle many nations were suffering at that very moment, like Cuba. Castro was an ideal leader to build a relationship with, both were examples of a growing movement that rose from the ashes of opression, achieving socialism in the small nations in order to bring down the empires. The united small nations could bring down the hegemony held by said empires, if they cooperated. But ensuring the revolution would last in the Caribbean and its surroundings would take a massive amount of effort, that Albania could not assist with in any manner. Hoxha walked among the many bunkers built on the cities and had an idea.

To: Fidel Castro
From: Enver Hoxha

Comrade, I hope this letter finds you well. There's a threat on your neighboring coasts, a threat that cannot avoided, as you very well know. Our nation is small and cannot do much in order to help you with resources but we do wish to assist you in your struggle to achieve socialism in any way we can, and as such, we offer to send advisors, veterans that were once part of the Albanian guerrillas that fought bravely against the Nazi threat, to help you with the construction of bunkers in each and every street, of a line of defense that can not be broken through. We are sorry we can't send more, comrade Castro, but know that you have the full support of the Albanian people.

A problem remained in the Adriatic nation. The industrialization plans had not been achieved succesfully and time passed, time that could be spent growing. Yet the Soviet Union was understandably occupied with the expansion of socialism in the great Asian nations. But who to seek support from, which socialist state would assist Albania on its struggle? Hoxha looked to Europe and its most advanced socialist state aside from the Soviets. The GDR.

To: Wilhelm Pieck
From: Enver Hoxha

A warm greeting from the Albanian people, comrade. We wish to establish a lasting cooperation between our two states, which find themselves in constant revolutions to achieve socialism in an effective manner. But we haven't the knowledge in our technicians to achieve a fully fledged industrialization of Albania, which would develop resources to assist world-wide socialism. And in order to achieve a benefit for both of our nations, I present you a trade agreement: If you send advisors that assist with the building of factories and the extraction of resources, we will make a percent of the production of these factories go to you, be it weaponry or ammunition, or machine parts, whatever your people need, comrade.

Enver Hoxha, First Secretary of the Party of Labour of Albania

Summary
Hoxha basically says that he will assist African revolutions, and asks for assistance.
Bunkers for Cuba!
Hoxha proposes a trade deal with the GDR.
Be careful out there and have fun! I also had an exam yesterday, so I get how you feel, it wasn't a final though.

Country... country... well, a magician is in power so it can't be a country like Cuba or China... I actually wonder how some revolutions would have fared if magic existed, like the French Revolution. Oh, well, it's best we assume the world is as it is right now, not to delve too much into it. I guess... hmmm... maybe Finland? Its harsh winters would make for some interesting magic. Or Brazil... or... man, there's a lot, any you like?

Also, just read your sig, congratulations!
We could probably use some kind of guerilla who plans to overthrow a magi led government, backed by an anti-magic political faction. It's a simple formula, really, but it provides a solid conflict for us to start with. I'd say a workplace... perhaps a university? As coworkers, of course.

An university provides a platform where: 1. both of us would be in a same rank or job position regardless of magic, the only thing judged would be merit; 2. we'd have a direct link of the conflict, given the students and the political expressions they develop (openly anti-magic groups, the magician students banding together, etc.); 3. we'd get plenty of excuses to have a friendship, trips for the faculty professors, meetings and a common interest on knowledge of some area; 4. we could open a discussion on morality, science and societal issues.

By the way, I love the title of this thread.
Alrighty then! Then, how do we solidify the plot and context our characters are going to be part of?
Hm. I'd say around 30, or maybe a bit less, like 28 years old or so. By the way, should I be the magic user?
I'd say I prefer sticking to one, if that's alright with you.

I don't see a problem with it. Also, if somebody wants to switch to the US role they can feel free to since we need a US.

I would gladly do so if I didn't feel I would fuck it up.
Then one of those two it is!

Also, I think there must be a balance between drama and regular ''slice of life'' situations within a story. A character isn't fully fleshed out when the only reasoning we can see of him is in crisis, nor can he sometimes shine when the drama happens. Of course the plot has to have some kind of dramatic content in it, as every narration that has as an objective catching the attention of the reader, but a man doesn't react the same to an explosion downtown as he does to the handling of his finances and his relationships. A hero can appear at the most crucial of times out of the most grim, despicable man.

So I guess the slice of life with enough drama would work pretty well.
As for the plot, perhaps we could be on the run because the both of us have found files about the magical genes that could be exploited? It'd also work well as one character chasing the other; if we took upon something more intincrate, it could be changing the way society views magic, or something around that idea. Something big.

And characters... well, that's a hard question right there. If I had a magic user, I'd probably be some spoiled, sheltered rich kid who looks down on non-magic users; an idiot who's easily manipulated. I guess it'd progressively advance from there, for better or worse. I could also be some activist against the people who abuse magic (a blind idealist), or a mage who collaborated with the researchers of the gene in order to improve humanity. There's a ton of possiblities, really. As a non-magic user? There's even more. It could be some disgruntled individual with a hatred for all things related to magic, it could be someone on a quest to acquire magic powers for himself (as for the reason, there are plenty of possiblities) or a researcher that accidentally found the materials of the files and got caught up in an ordeal.

Tell me if you like any of these ideas, I am just throwing 'em out there.

If we wanted to have a field of science dedicated to the use of targeting a magical gene and perhaps selling it or altering it, in case someone doesn't want their child to have it. We could probably do something with upper and middle class if that was the case, as I assume if the gene itself became a commodity, then it could be something the wealthy either abhor or want a monopoly on. Either way, I can see class system dynamics working in some way with magic v non-magic users, then of course there's the idea of putting them in the military and all that, though I'd have an idea that only certain parts of the world can have native of certain magical affiliations. What do you think?

I like the idea of a magical gene adapting to the enviroment to suit survival on it properly, in a way that different regions of the world have different kinds of magic; in the past there could have been slave markets in order to use the people with said genes and to transmit them. That's pretty dark, though.

The class system is fine, it'd seem logical that the people with the power to transform their enviroment without relying on machines or workers would have had an advantage in an early stage of civilization, although nowdays it could be rejected. It does depend on the person. And the military... that's an entirely different issue, there's the fact that a nation that conscripts its magicians will have more power, yet in a modern society the individual would have the choice to enroll; which leaves us with the problem as to why people who hold economic power would enroll willingly. Perhaps because of honor and tradition. There's also the fact that in a modern age, no matter how powerful a magician may be, he can't hold an entire army at bay like they could before, when they defended fortresses from the top of towers. Most of the army would still be composed by regular humans.
