Hmmm... I may have given off the wrong idea with my opening. Currently, I am strictly at the brainstorming stages, any ideas I have are not fully developed. I was asking mostly as a preventative measure and to test the waters, hoping to get an idea of a rough estimate as when to stop as I lack self-control at times. In that regards, it seems I'm pretty successful.

To clarify, I'm not trying to make a rule-set (though maybe I should, as a separate project, haha) my main reason for adding mechanics is to a) give people incentive to play to quirky nations and reward them for doing so (Who doesn't want to see a a tide of nationalist orcish light infantry picking off dinosaurs riding bigger dinosaurs from lands unknown. An exaggeration, but allow me to dream.) b) allow for a way for players to judge their progress compared to others (and thus show who are ripe for conquest) and c) to help decide matters that are a bit messy to do so strictly in character (I find combat tends to rub egos). My goal is still for people to play as their nation outside of the number crunching. Kind of like an After Action Report, for those who read those things, but during the action.

So far, it still sound like a bit of temperance is required, but testing is still the best way to go.
Thanks for the input guys! It'd probably be easier to modify something to fit the interested parties than the other way around.

Looks like the best way to figure out at this point is to solidify the ideas into something that works and try to find some mooks adventurous individuals to test it out with me.

I can't actually deny that... text-based Napoleon: Total War with Fantasy Elements

I could probably scratch this itch if Napoleon was a better game. Or if Warhammer Total War had much more guns. >3>
To begin, an introduction. I've recently been contemplating the idea of running a game. Coincidentally, I was hovering around the NRP section lately, I've only done one in ages past, I've found really interesting ideas and concepts. Needless to say, I felt like trying it out again. While I haven't run across one that was something that I particularly wanted to play, my brain went wild and started coming up with an idea that I can run myself.

The setting (low-fantasy Napoleonic era) is chugging along nicely, but a large part of my processing power is being dedicated to coming up with mechanics to add to the game. For example, I want to run battles as a bit of a skirmish game played out on a map, where the players as the commanding presence of their armies would issue orders. Here comes the iffy bits: I had imagined that players would get to stat their units accordingly, which would decide combat along with dice. From there, it evolved to giving nations the ability to raise said troops and supply them. Then comes along the idea of allowing each player to come up with perks for their nation, which would add personality - which is honestly my favorite part of the NRP idea - to nations, but would obviously add more complexity to the game.

...somewhere along the line, it ends up sounding like a video game or maybe a trpg, even to me.

Now, I am personally not against the idea of running such a complex game, but I'd like people's opinions. Should I allow the madness to take over? Or maybe I should tone it down? I would also be happy with just advice in general.

Thanks for reading through that~
Ave! Glory to Caesar.

I've recently (re)joined as well, so I may not be the best person to welcome you in, but I just had to greet the new legatus. :)

Hope you enjoy~
Truth be told, Himeno was rather interested in the cryptic employment opportunity that greeted her in the chatroom. It was certainly something different from what she was used to. First of all, it sounded rather... well... illegal, at least more so than her misadventures were. There was absolutely no way that she was going to give these strangers the benefit of knowing that. Still, money was not going to be an issue anytime soon, and she was not a proponent to theft, outside stealing information.

Part of her wondered where the mysterious keeper of Chatroom 3 was hiding, rumors say they were the youngest keeper around. That made them someone that Himeno wanted figured out as soon as possible. After all, they would likely have been the one most affected by the innocent prying that she was likely to attempt during quiet moments. It was an thought that made the girl smile impishly in her dark bedroom. Nothing hostile, just something to keep them on their toes - a love tap, if anything. If it ends up bearing fruit, that's always a bonus.

For now, she sighed after taking a sip of her well-chilled drink, as it seemed she was stuck with Mr. Business and the seemingly eager substitute. Part of her wanted to give up for the day and just stream some anime or something, but then again, making friends was always important when meeting new people. She wasn't going to try too hard, but still. Her fingers danced on the closest keyboard once more, maybe a bit more accommodating to the serious business that this 'vulture' was proposing.
"Hai, hai! Thanks for your support everybody! I love you all!"

Like a true idol, "Hime#" called out to her cheering fans, giving them all one last flamboyant wink before exiting the stage. The crowds roared with renewed vigor as the girl basically waltzed off the stage. She had just finished the last song of the three month long tour, but there were no hints of exhaustion on her expression. After all, she was doing it for her fans. She was their Christmas Angel. Disgusting. With one final wave, the idol vanished back-stage.

Eventually, another person walked out of the staff-only door. Her posture slouched, and an annoyed scowl on their face. Few of the staff that still lingered gave the figure suspicious glances, but it wasted no time in going past them and settling into a small nondescript sedan parked a few blocks away. Sometimes, even it was surprised as how much a change of expression changed how people saw you. Rolling her eyes at the thought, she scowled.

"Plebs."

With another pain in the ass tour in the bank, Himeno Lockhart emerged from her cheerful prison and made her way home. It was pretty amazing how much people were willing to pay to watch a girl make a fool of herself on stage. Fortunately for her sanity, she had the money to bury herself under her blanket in her favorite frozen room for another couple of months. Fortunately, the last stop had been close to home, so the girl didn't have to listen to crappy Christmas jingles for too long. Of course, the sombre news of a dead NERVE operative was equally dreadful, but the girl soon wiped both from her memory.

"I'm home!" She called out with a grin, causing the house to rouse from its long slumber, thanks to the wonders of technology. The air-conditioning set itself to a chilly zero degrees and the various screens scattered about displayed lifeless static. After making herself comfortable - huddled under her blanket with a bag of chips, several liters of iced tea and music blasting from her massive headphones - Himeno smiled. Now, let's see who's here.

Here we go~

Name: Himeno Lockhart

Age: 19

Appearance:

Username: iNNoCENT13

Chat color: Hot Pink (#ff69b4)

Device(s): Lenovo Y920for day use; A plethora of towers and screens connected haphazardly at home, affectionately called "The Graveyard"

Occupation: Idol

Cyberskills: Decryption; Information Gathering; Distraction; Data Recovery; Putting something on a network is practically offering it to Himeno.

Personality: During the day, in the "real world", Himeno is nothing but smiles. To the world at large, she is a sweetheart with boundless enthusiasm for life, known for donating much of her income to different charities. Behind closed doors however, she is the complete opposite: a bitter cynic, who wants nothing to do with the world at large. She enjoys flaunting her supremacy in anyway she can. For all her pride, Himeno does have a poor opinion of herself, to the point that she regularly trolls her own social network accounts - though sometimes she does it to revel in the ignorance of the public. Surprisingly, she tends to be a loyal friend to those that she considers friends.

Background: Born in Canada to a musician and her producer, but was raised in Japan. In her youth, Himeno was relatively normal child, if albeit shy. This soon changed, however. In a bid to get her to open up, her parents managed to get her to audition for an idol group that a family friend was managing. With a fake smile and a couple of months of intensive training, she made the cut. Between her appearance and her reserved personality, she quickly became one of the more popular members. It was then that she began to notice the things that people hid from others: the jealous glances, the angry whispers, and all the lies. Knowing this, she grew bitter at the world.

She would spend more and more time hidden away from the world, exploring the darker parts of the internet in her downtime. At first, it was just forums and memes, but eventually she stumbled upon a hacker who was a fan. It was love at first site, Himeno and hacking. Soon it consumed all her time, outside of work. She hasn't done any hacking for any serious reason, typically using her skills to uncover secrets - spreading some, and merely keeping others. However, she has helped others under her user name to distract certain individuals while they did their work. Eventually she became popular enough to go solo, but she was a lot more satisfied when her friend introduced her to the chat room.
