What techniques do you use to open these "pickle jars"? Or is it just raw pickle jar opening strength? (not to be confused with regular strength)

Heyo @lovely complex @Silent Observer @Universorum

Just letting you all know that I've decided to drop Free Pass. ;c Really sorry. The idea and the setting and everything is outstanding, but I just can't seem to run past this writer's block. I dug myself a hole and can't get out of it, at least with this character or any other I've attempted to come up with.

So, yeah, before this show hits the stage, I'll give up my spot to anyone who wishes to take it.

I'll be keeping a lookout for any other RPs that you guys will undoubtedly come up with in the future, though. Gonna see if I can't truck these last two weeks of this semester. God save me from all of these essays - they just might be the source of my writer's block. *am ded*

Best of luck to you all!

Do you feel there are many differences between male and female characters?

I think @gcold makes a great point. The differences are generally up to the setting and the society in which these characters come from. That, in itself, is up to the GM to explain unless it's already inherent in the lore being used.

As for any other instances, and just stripped of any setting, the only differences are biological and that's rarely written out in fiction, I feel. Anything else is really just a product of the character itself and not reliant on the gender of that character. So, I personally don't think there's a difference between writing for a female or writing for a male when you aren't dependent on anything else in a setting or environment... and if we're restricting this to humans. It's all situational.

Do you tend to favor one sex over the other, or only play one sex?

I do. I play 99% males and that's not because I can't write for a female, or play one. It's simply preference. And, also, I have this big, personal issue regarding leading people on when it comes to romance, so that's always on the forefront of my mind when I make a character - no matter what. I'm a writer and I can write just about any type of relationship, sure, and I intend to in my own works. Uh, however, when it involves a hobby like roleplaying, I'm not going to venture outside of my comfort zone when it comes to... the type of romance I tend to want to personify through my own characters. The world needs more homos.

So, yeah, in a roleplaying setting, I let the possibility, however small, of a romance dictate who I'm gonna play.

But, also, I've had the chance to roleplay plenty of heterosexual romances/characters in my time here and other places, playing both male and female, and my interest plummeted the instant I started writing for them.

If I ever intend to roleplay as a female, it's likely going to be with a group of friends and in a setting where romance is highly unlikely. From experience, I know it's not any different than playing a male, given the setting.

Do you feel a roleplay needs to be balanced with its sexes?

Oh, hell no.

Again, I think this is slightly influenced by the setting. Certain settings may not have an abundance of one or the other and some may bar one gender entirely. That's up to what the plot and the GM dictates.

However, for a setting that has an infinite amount of males and females in the world/universe, then I don't think it's necessary to balance sexes, at all. Unless the situation calls for it. Honestly, my opinion on the matters is that forcing a balanced ratio of sexes reduces the realism of the roleplay. And I also don't like it because it also gives me the implication that the GM's worried more so about people being able to get together in a roleplay than about the characters themselves. If that makes sense? And this is only concerning a setting and a plot that doesn't require a balance in sexes. And for me, an individual whose range of sexualities for his characters goes from homosexual to asexual, it puts me off, a lot.

Are there certain rolls that you feel are better played by a certain sex?

I think that's up to the GM to decide, really. If you don't make it clear in the OOC that certain jobs, roles, or classes are better fit for a certain sex, then I think the default is that both are equally capable as masters of said role.

(End note: i have to apologize for using gender and sex interchangeably. it's something i'm working on, but i do know the differences between both terms.)

Sure, I'll complete the trio.

Asking for criticism and wanting your writing to really be dug into, only to be met with indifference, saying 'it's good, dw dude' or get wholly unhelpful comments that get taken back as soon as you ask the other guy to elaborate.

Whenever it feels like I'm doing something wrong and ask the people I'm roleplaying with for advice, they never give anything beyond very minor and specific nitpicks that they only bring up once I push them for it. Even then, half those nitpicks get taken back five minutes later.

I know I'm not anywhere near the level I want to be at, but if I don't know where I'm going wrong it becomes more of a far-fetched dream compared to a goal.

I think this is also an issue of, "Asking your peers and expecting more of them than you expect of yourself."

Understanding who's a better writer than you are and differentiating that between who's actually on your level is key to finding individuals who can provide constructive criticism. Sometimes, your peers don't necessarily understand how to get you on a level higher than your current standard because they're also stuck on that level. If you push them for criticism, you're forcing them to look for anything and everything wrong with your writing, thus you get small nitpicks on minor grammatical errors.

The obvious issue is that you're looking in the wrong place for criticism. Don't ask your friends to critique you, ask people you know are miles better than you at what you're doing and are comfortable with providing critique. You'll learn some things from your peers, however, being stuck on the same level as your peers won't make you better. Mostly, it's up to you to challenge yourself and not up to anyone else to provide criticism, even if you ask for it. Sometimes they won't know what to look for, other times they'll have the same issues as you do in your writing that they can't see, and other times they just can't be arsed, even if you push them.

(Also, good criticism is a separate skill in and of itself that requires a high understanding of the skill it's examining. Not everyone has that skill and expecting most people, like your RP peers, to be able to provide good and constructive criticism is like asking one of your fellow students, with the same grade and level of comprehension, to tutor you in the subject you're trying to improve in.)

If you would like criticism, try and find it in places where you're fairly certain the individuals have the necessary tools to provide what you're asking for. Avoid putting people on the spot and expecting more than a, "Idk, I guess," out of them.
@Lovely Complex I flipped a coin to see who I should tag between the three of you. It landed on its side, upright.

Anyways, jokes aside, is there a time frame you guys would like us to meet in terms of finishing our characters? I just know I've got a busy weekend and my break doesn't officially start until after my class on Monday. But that whole week is mine for the taking to write and play video games and generally slack like the trash loser I am.

Just wanted to be able to notify you guys if there was a general cut off date or just if you were looking to start the IC by the end of this weekend.

Do you know what movie the first image (Byung Hun Lee) is? I've searched the internet but I can't find it.

EDIT - Hell if anyone knows please say.

I found some photos that match your first of Byung Hun Lee, if you'd like to use any of them!

If you need any gifs or more images, specifically, I'll gladly help out - he's got quite a few, actually. ;o (I just now noticed that he's in that G.I. Joe movie with Channing Tatum.)
