Brianna smirked. If there was one part of herself she was confident in, it was her intelligence. "Make no mistake, Ambrose. I speak to every subject." She grabbed one of his wrists tightly once he had come over to her. "Listen to me, Subject 10. Even though I have to keep you alive for longer than the rest of the subjects I can make every single waking moment miserable if you dare to sass me. I have broken minds more easily than eggshells in the sake of science, and your own mind is not something I need fully functioning in order to succeed. Do your understand me?"
Brianna glared at the boy. "I have well-detailed reports on you from when you were unconscious. Not to mention scientific research which shows that diseases that a shifter has stay with them no matter their form. As such, I can conclude that you Ambrose do not have any such illness that could cause any harm to my wellbeing." She laced his name with poison. "Now, are you going to let me examine you or will you continue to act coy? I have full access to security should I need to use it and they can hold you down if you refuse to stay still."

"Subject 10. Hey! 10 is my lucky number!" Ambrose then follows Brianna like a puppy dog. "It's not nice to ignore people, you know. Some would think you have a problem with me." He gasps. "Do you hate bats? Because I'm a bat, and if you're afraid of bats, we might have a problem..." He then glances at the Boss. "Hey mister boss man, you aren't going to leave me here with her, are you? I don't think she likes me very much."

Brianna glares at Ambrose, feeling distraught at the fact that she was supposed to treat this subject as, well, an actual person. At least he wouldn't have to undergo shock therapy. "Boss, if this subject is not to undergo normal procedure, what can be learnt from him?"

The Boss shrugs and collects his microscope, preparing to leave the office. "Examine the blood. Examine the way he shifts. Examine everything. This boy is special, I just know it. Oh, and Ambrose...?" His expression towards the boy is suddenly unkind. "There's no real way out of this facility without the right know-how. I'd get to enjoy the area if I were you." With that, he hobbles out of the door with microscope and walking stick in hand.
Brianna only stared at the hand before looking back at The Boss. "Boss... This is Subject 10. We only address our subjects by number."

The Boss waved his hand dismissively. "This subject is different and thus deserves to be called by name." He glares sharply at Brianna. "I expect the utmost care with him. Do you understand what I'm saying? He's not like any other subject and I expect you not to dispose of his thus."

Brianna grits her teeth and nods, walking past Ambrose to the lab area of the room.
Brianna entered the room and was surprised to see the subject up and walking. To be honest, it made her feel terribly unsafe. For a single awful moment she thought that The Boss was going to ask her to restrain the subject. She calmly reminded herself that there were guards whose job it was to do that. Instead she spoke calmly, in a slightly higher tone than usual. "Ah, sir, how might I help you?"

"Call me Boss, Brianna," The Boss insisted and beckoned her in. He pointed to Ambrose, thinking that the boy was simply exploring the area. "I'd like you to meet our new subject. His name his... Umm..." He waited for Ambrose to answer.
"Sacha!" Aya calls out in relief. Even though she was still at risk from Elauna's bow and arrow she couldn't resist the urge to shift and fly back to her leader.
As if in answer to Ambrose's wish, Brianna knocked on The Boss's door. "Sir? Mona called for me to be here."

The Boss stood up and clapped his hands together happily, recognising the voice. "Brianna, please come in here at once. The door is open." He glanced over at Ambrose. "Brianna is one of the top scientists of this project. You might find her a little harsh, but her intelligence more than makes up for any misdemeanour. Do as we both say, and I promise you won't end up like..." He taps the book with a finger. While he couldn't guarantee the outright safety of the boy, he at least wanted to be around for a little longer. This was not a subject he wanted so willingly thrown away.
The Boss sighed. "Boy, I have talked to more shifters than I doubt you'll ever meet in your life. I have heard enough stories from their lips to fill all the books in the world. I will never tire of their majesty." He tightened one hand into a fist. "But all of that did no good. There was no shifter who could tell me the words I needed to know." He turned to a page of gruesome images, bodies of humans and animals alike cut open for dissection. "Only their bodies could speak to me."
Brianna sighs in relief that Mona had taken the hint. She couldn't stand another minute around somewhat with so much of a lower intellect than hers. Now, if only this meeting with The Boss would not take so long so that she could return to her work. That would make the situation perfect.
The Boss presses the blood down with tape and slips into under the observation lens of the microscope. "Fascinating, that is. I wonder what these Broms would say about your group?" He reaches to a cupboard above the two of them and removes a display file filled with records of past subjects. He puts it down next to Ambrose's body. "There's a tendency for shifters to gather in groups, you know. It's seen across the world. I wonder if that really is DNA?" He gives a rare and true smile. "I suppose even my Family is somewhat like one such group."
