Nat nodded silently not understanding Darlith's point completely, but following her after a few seconds she started moving. He kept looking if he saw the man who watched them on the roof. The man was nowhere to be seen. At first Nat tried to constantly peek around to see if there was someone who followed, However, as Nat never saw their follower with his own eyes, because he had his back turned at first and a house blocking the view later on, the half-elf started having second thoughts. He examined the elf woman leading him.

"She did seem to appear out of nowhere. Then she claims to be hunted by Fusos. She would avoid me if she was hunted by Fusos. Could she be paranoid?" and as soon as they bumped into a forest path Nat asked her "Were we... Actually watched by someone? I mean.. I never saw him, maybe you.." he thought about the right word for a heartbeat "...Mislooked?"
"On the roof?" Nat mumbled and gave Darlith a questioning look, then nodded, though he did not rush to go anywhere "We can simply leave through the road we came, he'll think us scavengers." Nat then thought about everything for a moment and walked behind a corner of a house, so he would not be seen. Looking around he saw that following the road they came through would eventually lead to a forest path. If that someone, who was observing them, was hostile, they could probably dive into the forest, as they were closer, and lose him.

"We can either go back, try to lose him through the forest, or follow the same road that leads out of town. It goes deeper into the forest and would get us east. No idea what we would find there, honestly. Heard stories that half-people live there." Nat swiftly listed their options. And then thought about everything for a few moments. "Should we even get involved with Fusos? I always tried to live by without annoying him. And this path, quite literary, is going to take us right into trouble with him." He then contemplated for a couple of heartbeats and took out his bow from and an arrow from quiver "On the other hand, I can target practice on the roof stalker" Nat half smiled and turned his gaze on Darlith "What say you?"
"Indeed" Nat said inspecting a body of a dead orc, which he previously missed. The scene was closer to the forest side, almost behind a building. Nat nodded in approval to Darlith's words, but she was already looking around in a house, so she most likely didn't notice that. The half-elf inspected the forest and saw that some of the plants seemed trampled. Well, some orcs came through the forest.. The most trampled location was behind roughly three houses. Nat moved away a bit, to take a closer look at those particular houses. They didn't seem too extraordinary when compared to nearby ones. That was until Nat noticed a signage on the middle house, claiming it was a healing shop.

"Remember the wagon I mentioned?" Nat shouted so Darlith would hear him "It might have carried some wounded from Sap. They probably sheltered them here." He went to the house and entered it. To say shortly - inside was a mess. It seemed that whoever was in here left in a hurry and this only supported Nat's theory. There was a stain on the floor and the half-elf crouched to inspect it closer, expecting it to be some orc's blood. "That's not blood" he mumbled, confused. "That's ink". He soon realized the ink stain had a border that was similar to a person's figure. "Somebody feigned death here. And since there seems to be no blood it worked." Nat said smiling and shaking his head, as if he couldn't have believed that really worked. He stood up again and looked outside. "The people I talked about. They came here in a wagon. They must have left the same way, because there is no wagon to be seen."
Nat nodded to the approaching Darlith "Rise and shine." he said, carefully rolling half of a loaf of bread into a fabric, then placing the roll into his backpack. When asked about the pipe, he waved Darlith's concern off "I'm okay with that." In truth the half elf was burning with the desire to know more about his mother, but he did not want to rush things. The appearing time of this elf was somewhat too good to be true and the sellsword knew that, even though not many, there were people in this world that wanted him dead. Thus Nat told her a couple of his secrets -- to gain her trust, but not all of them -- to not allow to be manipulated.

"We should go. If you want to get some supplies or finish your pipe, catch up with me." he said and went out of the tavern. Making his way to the northern part of town, Nat looked around. The town seemed smaller than he thought at night. Only a few souls were seen around after what happened and only a few of them didn't hide seeing Nat approaching. The parts he reached after a dozen minutes of walk have already resembled the outskirts more than the town itself. The forest trees were more common than buildings around here.

"This was the place that was hit by Fusos' raiding party the most." Nat said looking around "Seeing that everything seems calm around, they must've found something". Some buildings here seemed fine. Others, however, had their doors broken out, some had their windows smashed. The most unfortunate ones were burned. "Likely, these are the ones, that did not have their doors opened. Most of inhabitants must've been sleeping." he mumbled looking at the ransacked part of town.
Nat went to his room to sleep thinking of the words Darlith said. "This woman knew my mother. And she seems the closest thing that I found to her in ages.". He didn't even take off his clothes, just unbuckled the sword, bow and quiver. The sleep found him fast -- Nat was used to regain his strength from just a few hours of sleep. He opened his eyes only at the moment the first sunlight crept up through the window and touched his eyes. Rubbing his eyes, the sellsword put his weapons back on him and went back to the main hall of the inn.

There were a couple of townsfolk there, but they seemed rather shocked by the events of the night, thus they only exchanged fearful whispers. Innkeeper glanced at Nat who was coming to his bar counter. The half elf put some coins on the counter and said "For the room and for some food. Preferably a loaf of bread." As the innkeeper nodded reluctantly and went to bring what was asked of him, Nat sat on nearby tabletop waiting for the Elven woman Darlith. At the same time the sellsword looked into his pouch and counted his coins - he had enough for about a week.Need to find an actually paid job. he thought and sighed.
Nat squinted while looking at the woman who introduced herself as Darlith. "You need mercenaries that have standards too. I am one of them." He said while curiously examining her face when she took of her hood.Do I know her?.. No... Don't think so.. When the elf asked which of his parent was an elf, Nat sighed responded "My mother. Of the name Caeves. If you know anything of her you can tell me, I'd be in your debt."

However, to the biggest surprise of Nat, this woman Darlith claimed she was hunted by Fusos. "You are? Interesting.." He smiled to the elf and wanter to continue but caught the innkeeper glancing at both of them strangely, thus he bent closer to Darlith and whispered "All of these soldiers followed someone in a wagon. Someone from the village of Sap. And considering they aren't afraid to raid every house, that certain somebody must be of great importance to Fusos. That wouldn't be you, would it?" Nat lifted his eyebrows and smiled. The half-elf then straightened again and lifted his hand and shouted "Hey there, innkeep', we'll want a room. Are you renting them, given these circumstances?" the man mumbled something, took a key from some cabinet and waved Nat to come over. The mercenary nodded and shouted "Just a sec" and then turned to Darlith again "I'm really tired. I marched for quite some time. I'm going to check out northern part of town, the one that was raided most fiercely, first thing in the morning, to know what they were looking for. Feel free to wait for me here if you want to join.. Or just go to my room for all I care. Though I don't share beds with strangers" he gave her a dumb smile and went on to take the key, then continue to the room.
Hey, since Jones probably did not see it when I suggested or didn't have the time, I gathered every single CS in this thread with their links. Tell me if I missed someone or mixed up a link. I think this will be useful, if somebody wants to find some character buried somewhere in this thread.

As the woman finally entered the tavern, Nat finally had the opportunity to examine her closely. She was an elf, no doubt and dark-haired, so his first two assumptions done earlier were correct. She did not take off her hood even inside and Nat smiled from the thought. He drank some ale and by that time the woman was sitting at his table. Nat curiously watched as she gave a coin to the innkeeper. The half-elf then gave her an ironic look and took another sip of ale. Just as he was about to ask what would she want from him, Nat heard her questions.

Looking her into the eyes that were partly hidden by the hood's shadow, he waited for a few seconds and then drank some more ale. "You really want to know that, that's all?" Nat put the mug on table. "I'm Eruantien. I call myself Nat. Most people do that too." he then stopped talking and thought about something for a second, looking away. "Heck, who do I work for? I don't know. Myself? No.. Nobody? Anybody? I can work for anybody." he nodded to himself "Give me what I look for, I'll even work for you, even though I haven't the slightest clue who you are." Nat stopped talking once more and picked up the mug. It was still half-full, but the sellsword drank it all in a few gulps, then placed the mug on table. "And the business in the post office.. Let's just say I helped... An employer. To find his lost love. Or hers." he smiled and turned his gaze on the elf. "And now you owe me your story, Elf. Am I so gorgeous your business couldn't have waited morning?"
