Two Touhou fans spotted, one Berserk fan spotted. I wonder who else I'll find. So far, all I've encountered are people with good taste.

As Kuroi slept peacefully through the conversations, his relaxing slumber soon turned one into agony. Not again was he to suffer some awful stench that made him lose all sense of his head. The fox slowly sat up and glared over at Caelan, furrowing his brow as he took the blunt his hand and threw it over the cart onto the dirt path. At this moment, his ears and tail went stiff, and his eyes locked with the human who had dared created such an awful stench with the blunt he was smoking. After a solid minute of death staring the lad, Kuroi slowly looked over at his companions. "...Apologies for my absence...I needed to recover after such an ungodly experience. I feel a lot better now, at least."

The vulpine let out a loud yawn, stretching his arms outwards as his expression softened. His tail began to sway around once again, indicating how happy he was to have had actual rest. "What's the plan, companions?" asked the vulpine, a smile on his face as his tail kept swaying in front of Caelan, practically forgetting about his existence.

Stench still emanated from him and everyone else's clothes but it was nothing as horrendous as being in the sewers. The smell would take a while to get off his (and everyone else's) clothes but their journey overall had been a necessary evil. He couldn't shake a few things from his head though. Who was the image of the woman their assailant created to shake them? How exactly had he found them? What importance did that woman hold to his companions? And what exactly would happen after arriving at their destination? It was far too long to back out now, especially with a bounty on one's head. He decided to stay silent and continued to listen to the ongoing conversation, merely absorbing everything that was being said.

Once he had collapsed up against the sewer wall, he couldn't help but look up at Baraian as some sort of provisional savior. He had no qualms as Baraian began to carry him throughout the sewers. The vulpine's energy was almost entirely sapped, and all he could do was mumble out slurred directions to Baraian in hopes they'd get out soon. By the time the group had escaped the sewers, the smell of fresh air was a reinvigorating scent. He ears and tail began to twitch and sway respectively, eager to finally be able to breathe in comfort once again. After ten minutes of being able to enjoy his sense of smell again, he let out an exhausted laugh. His gaze switched between his companions for a few moments before he finally closed his eyes and gave in to exhaustion.

The last thing he remembered was easing himself into the back of a cart, snuggled up against a rather bumpy blanket. Several hours later, the sounds of speaking caused him to stir momentarily, his eyes weakly opening up at the sight of a young man around his age. All he could do was reach up to gently rub his beanie-covered head before returning to slumber, not able to produce any sort of facial expression due to his exhaustion. Kuroi snuggled up against the shared blanket once again, enjoying the much-needed rest he required as the others conversed.

Kuroi was ready to engage the enemy the moment he saw an earthy prison envelop him. His hand reached out to grab his wakizashi once thrown to him, almost flawlessly grabbing it by the hilt as he kept his eyes on the enemy the entire time. His eyes narrowed as he heard the feminine voice devolve into that of a raspy cheat who wished to lure them all to his death. Nothing had surprised him in this encounter up until green blood began to spew from the enemy's mouth. His eyes widened as he quickly scanned the area, making sure all his companions were still within his gaze before looking back at their enemy. Both a miracle and a curse to have witnessed their opponent felled by someone else, who else could have been watching them? As the body dropped into the filth-ridden water, Kuroi let out an exasperated sigh, his exhausted eyes tracking the shadowy figure for as long as they could until it disappeared.

A part of him wanted to pursue after the figure but knew he too would end up as a corpse if he attempted to fight again in this state. He slowly lumbered over to Ayita, collapsing up against the wall near her. With a puff of breath, he glanced up at her and gave her a nod of thanks. His anxiety did not lessen in the slightest, yet he knew if he did not rest now he could not go on. He dared not lay his eyes upon Torvi after wounding her, only giving her a quiet sorry before he returned to his feeble, almost crippled state. Closing his eyes, he pressed his hand up against his covered nose and mouth, trying to control his breathing and ignore the stench that still penetrated his makeshift mask to some degree.

As Torvi rushed past him, Kuroi instantly rushed towards one of the clones that were following Kuroi's. He instantly sent a powerful low-kick to the leg of Baraian's clone, sweeping it off its feet. As he kicked through the target's legs, he used the momentum to bring his leg back up high before letting it fall down onto the clone's head with perfect precision. He quickly felt the grip of his wakizashi and crouched down, slicing through the enemy's neck and keeping his free hand up to have some sort of guard. By the time he had finished his swift and brutal execution, the vulpine looked up to see the remaining clones were fighting off Baraian's shadows. He let out a small grunt as he looked around at his eyes before deciding to engage the last few clones before someone else could. After all, after having dug his teeth into Torvi's forearm, he had to do something worth a damn!

His empty hand wrapped grabbed onto the hair of Torvi's clone before yanking it back into his wakizashi. Letting a slight growl, he quickly turned around and flung his wakizashi at Ayita's clone once and for all. Whether or not he succeeded was beyond his worries now as he met his eyes with a man who seemingly held an innocent woman captive. He brought his dominant hand up next to his ear and readied his other hand as he readied himself into a left-lead fighting stance, one that was awfully similar to a boxer's stance. "It seems the rat has brought along a toy so we do his bidding." He sneered out, gritting his teeth behind his mask as he slowly approached Maneru until he was ten or so feet away from him.

The vulpine couldn't help but gag and wince in absolute agony as he tried to rid himself of the awful stench that had taken over his entire self. The smell was awful and it was all he could concentrate on. Whatever the dark elf and the woman were quarreling about was none of his concern, the sewers were literally crippling him! Were it not for how exhausted he was, Kuroi would be able to at least tolerate being down here, but without anything to filter the smell out of the air, he was paralyzed on the ground. Upon feeling Torvi offer up her shoulder, he looked up at her, and quickly took the piece of cloth, using whatever strength he had yes to tie it around his nose and mouth. He stayed knelt down on the grimy ground for some time, taking some time to catch his breath and calm himself down.

As his heartbeat slowed down and his sudden stench-induced panic attack faded, he slowly hoisted himself up onto his feet and began to share his wait against Torvi's shoulder. Although he said nothing, he stared straight into his eyes, his gaze expressing nothing but gratitude to her. The vulpine did his best not to weigh her down and shifted himself to the point where she was on his shoulder. Kuroi couldn't bear to weigh someone else down, especially now that he recovered with the makeshift mask bestowed upon him. Kuroi had gone on ahead, keeping his arm wrapped around Torvi's waist as he led the group through the sewers to the best of the ability.

Everything had gone well up until they were blockaded by the wall of blue mist. Similar to before, Kuroi's ears suddenly went stiff as he narrowed his eyes towards the wall of blue mist, slowly positioning himself against the wall to give Torvi another support in case he would have to fight again. Similar to a wild animal, Kuroi bared his teeth as he brought up his free hand in front of his face. His eyes widened as he saw four cheap copies of him and his party walk out towards him. Blood rushed through him and adrenaline coursed through his veins, almost enough to keep himself alive a few seconds in combat. He kept a tight grip on Torvi and began to walk backward, motion the group to do the same as well.

"...We just can't win...reveal yourself, caster!" He snarled out, an ugly scowl faintly outlined through his cloth mask.

As his false self began to walk towards him and the rest of his group, Kuroi desperately looked over at his companion and raised his makeshift mask to reveal his bared teeth towards the four clones. It was at this point that the vulpine had outright resorted to ferality. His foxlike features had definitely stiffened up to that of a furious fox ready to defend his den, and the pupils of his eyes had widened as he stared forth at the enemies.

He only relaxed slightly as he looked over at Torvi - anger and sadness were in his eyes. "Forgive me...I just need...the strength..." He said softly before he suddenly took her by the arm and dug his sharp teeth straight into her forearm. Although he was no vampire, and far from an uncivilized bloodthirsty couth, he needed a new scent to empower him for the time being. Nothing but shame ran through him as he felt his fangs penetrate the woman's tender flesh. Obviously, he made sure to bite in an area that were from any vital arteries or veins; he wasn't trying to kill her after all.

Moments later, he slowly moved away from Torvi and licked at the blood around his lips. His left finger scooped up some of the poor woman's blood and pressed it up against his nose through the cloth, trying to overwhelm his senses with a scent that wouldn't severely cripple him. His pupils were extremely dilated by this point, and his focus was on the four clones that he was sure were here to eliminate them once and for all. Once he had licked up all the blood, he pulled down his makeshift mask back over his mouth and let out a snarl. He brought both of his hands up, readying his sharp nails as if they were the claws of a lion.

This was the only way Kuroi could see himself surviving the situation. Succumbing to mild ferality was the only logical solution he could make in such a weakened state. As adrenaline coursed through his veins alongside the taste and smell of blood, he was able to distract himself from the putrid stench in the sewers. Kuroi was now ready to stand his ground alongside his newfound allies.

All he could hope was that Torvi could forgive such a horrendous injury.

"Better we collapse here than anywhere else...although I think the stench will be what keep us awake through this horrible endeavor..." croaked out Kuroi, gritting his teeth as he looked around, covering his nose and mouth with the sleeve of his kimono. It smelled absolutely horrendous to him. He didn't even want to talk as the stench affected him more than it did anyone else - curse his good sense of smell! On many occasions, the vulpine could be seen trembling and having shaky legs. The smell was getting to him far more than it was anyone else. It got so bad to the point where he collapsed on his knees, wincing in what seemed to be like pain to him. His ears and tail had become entirely stiff as he began to retch out, hoping to get the horrible smell out of his system via some miracle.

His current state of being combined with dehydration ended up being awful to him, he wasn't even sure if he could keep going. He couldn't speak anymore without inhaling that gods awful stench, and it was becoming troubling to stand back up onto his feet. It took almost all of his willpower (and the help of the wall) to pull himself back up, allowing him to continue the journey at a snail's pace.

Kuroi gave a slight nod in response to Ayita's words. He was currently doing his best to not collapse into slumber right now. He forced himself to wag his tail around, no matter how difficult it felt at the moment, he needed to concentrate on not falling asleep. After a grueling five minutes, the vulpine slowly opened his eyes, looking around in absolute exhaustion. "We...we should really get going..." he says softly.

It was audible in his voice - Kuroi, like everyone else, was tired of running. The idea of just collapsing regardless of repercussions was so enticing right now. Kuroi, however, knew best and forced himself to stand up, letting out a weak exhale. "This way to the sewers..." he mumbled under his breath, starting to lead the group back into the slums, hoping that a second wind would give him the energy he needed soon. "Perhaps...as unsanitary as it sounds...we can actually rest once we're in the sewers..." He croaked out before covering his mouth with his arm. Letting out a few dry coughs, he began to follow the road in order to encounter the manhole cover off to the side of the road. Secretly, he couldn't remember precisely where it was. Escaping alongside Baraian was more important than memorizing Roshmi's manhole cover locations. He could only pray silently in hopes he would find the entrance they needed.

...

After about an hour of searching, Kuroi sighed in relief, collapsing onto his knees as he stared down at the manhole cover. Weakly, he wrapped his fingers around it and threw it aside, having lost all care in the world if anyone saw them. If they were to be pursued, it would be under the guise of darkness where he had the advantage (despite his fatigued state). "...The gate is in the direction where we came from...so now we'll be backtracking through the sewers..." He said before slowly crawling into the gods-forsaken hole. Grabbing onto the ladder, he began to descend into the sewers, hoping he wouldn't lose his sense of smell after this horrendous journey.

A scowl came from the vulpine's face, his eyes shutting tight and his fist clenched tightly. The vulpine's wrath began to visibly show itself, marking a milestone in his descent into desperation. He wasn't angry at Ayita, nor was he even angry at Baraian anymore. It was not Torvi's fault either. All he could think about was how his life had gone to shambles - he had been destined for so much more than this. Kuroi had hit the wall with a hammer fist, baring his fangs as if he were a fox in the wild. As he had his episode, he was eventually snapped back into reality by one of the women that had been following him.

Letting out a sigh, he met eyes with her and nodded his head, "It seems to be the wisest choice...there is an entrance to the sewers not too far from here..."

He awaited responses from the other two but had already come to terms that they were barely able to speak after the ungodly trek they had committed to overnight. Kuroi closed his eyes and relaxed, wanting only a few minutes to recuperate himself. His hand relaxed against the wall, anger left him, and he soon found himself in his a safe headspace. "Let us...rest for a few minutes..." he mumbled out weakly. Kuroi had been through a lot these past few days. His life had taken a change for the worst, and many of the people that surrounded him now were people he was unsure he could truly call allies. Regardless of whether or not there was disproval from the only vocal human in the group, he needed at least a few minutes to rest himself, free of adrenaline and free of worry. It was his greatest wish at the moment.

To be able to relax and regenerate oneself before they encountered their next foe. After all, with everything that happened at the ball and a bounty on Kuroi's head, it was inevitable.
