Bio

A writer, artist, animator, worldbuilder. In short, jack of all trades, master of some.

For the most part, I've retired from roleplaying. For quite a long time, what kept me tied to RPG was the Spam community—but even that I have distanced myself from. Now, my focus is on the writing contests.

I consistently try to write reviews for RPGC, and I consistently enter the Twelve Labours.

First labour; world of Archipelago, Jack.
Challenge: an unwelcome death.
For next entry: characterization.

Second labour; world of Uberpowered, Émile.
Challenge: an unfortunate fortune.
For next entry: pacing.

Third labour; world of Cinderlore, Caerys.
Challenge: an unforgiving ambition.
For next entry: proofreading.

Fourth labour; world of Supers, Joshua.
Challenge: an uncompromising betrayal.
For next entry: development.

Fifth labour; world of Mutamorphis, Olrich.
Challenge: an unrepressed motive.
For next entry: development, dammit.

Sixth labour; world of Mythos, Melas.
Challenge: an untenable alliance.
For next entry: dénouement.

Seventh labour; world of Hatemongers, Talahn.
Challenge: an unbearable sacrifice.
For next entry: cast utilization.

Eigth labour; world of Mythica, Céline.
Challenge: an unwinnable challenge.
For next entry: plot cohesion.

Ninth labour; world of Nardja, Albiorn.
Challenge: an unknowing accomplice.
For next entry: narrative set-up.

Tenth labour; world of Magestones, Ariana.
Challenge: an unwilling inspiration.
For next entry: narrative set-up, dammit.

ripping her mech's arm off

Bringing back old wounds. *sniffle*

it was a good arm
If there isn't any opposition, I'd like to move Eira over to the Retrieval team for in character reasons. Though she may not be the ideal diplomat, her experience with Adam means that she does have a little bit of experience dealing with them. Also, couldn't hurt to have at least one tank protecting the group in case of a breach.

I mostly agree with Jorick's placement of NPCs, though Abimael seems a bit iffy. On our side or not, making him fight other mutants seems risky territory, because he could just as easily be dissuaded by our own brutality against his kind. He could be useful for Retrieval to show that Adam's treatment was—well, not a fluke. I dunno. An exception? I just don't think it's good to start him off fighting his own kind until he bonds more with the team.

If he does get placed there, we'd better also have some of the PCs directly involved with saving him.
Eira for U-Arm.

But damn, I'm feeling guilty for Adam. I'll need to mull over whether this reinforces Eira's obedience or undermines it.

EDIT: Oops, have a relevant PM to read. May reconsider mission designation.

Ok. Writing my post. I'm just going to jump right in, as if I was never not there.

Okay, I edited a rather short sentence into the very end of my post mentioning you for the purpose of consistency.
Aëyr, selkie. Free Holds.

It was odd being in Southblood as a Queen's Blade and not as a slave. Rarely had she been let out onto the streets—the last time she had walked them of her own free volition had been when she had attempted escape with Eüchia. Not exactly pleasant memories.

In a way that almost disturbed her, she felt like she was back home. As though this cruel city that had shackled and shamed and left her for dead was where she truly belonged.

Shaking the unwelcome thoughts from her mind, she focused instead on the task at hand. Aëyr had a nagging suspicion that Abida's hypothetical individual would be Aëyr herself, ignoring the fact that she had almost no experience in the artform. Not all prostitutes are trained to dance. "I doubt we shall be able to locate an individual who's skill can match that of Mikan in such a short time." Pausing with uncertainty, she considered their options again. Distasteful as it was to consider Abida's proposition, she did have a point.

"However, I agree with Abida. Mikan, unless subjected to significant disguise, risks identification. I suggest the original proposition." Motioning to the sling tied around her waist as a belt, she explained. "A variety of weapons could be disguised as clothing, and so long as the guards die quickly, there should be little alarm."

Looking over her companions, she noted that save herself and Mikan, they did not seem particularly suited to the art of subterfuge. Both Child and Abida were warriors and little else. Though that could be advantageous, if it came to killing the guards bare-handed. Mars's ingenuity, however, might prove quite useful.

I guess I'll be joining the Free Holds mission, is there an open spot?

Indeed, there are two.
I remember the first time I saw a cop shoot a deer on the side of the road.

It was kinda sad, but at the same time, sweet.

He was a good man.
I present Eira's new mech!

Upgrades?

  • Two left shoulder slots.

  • Detachable medium armour. Basically, if something tries to pull her mech or tear it apart or whatever, it has a layer of armour on each section that can be detached. (It need not be detached all at once.) Once all of the armour has been removed, either by her or by the enemy, Justice becomes a Light Mech.

  • Automated Systems. Adds some sensors and allows Eira to give the mech harder-to-maintain commands that it will continue to do even if she leaves the scene. EDIT: In conjunction with gloves, allows her to give similar basic commands while near mech. Not full capabilities of course, just "start shooting" or "strobe lights" or such, no running, and aiming flimsy.

As for companion, I've yet to decide on a name, but here's my idea for function.

Something in a shape similar to that of an armadillo, with a mixture of the function of a couple species. That is, armoured exterior, rolls in a ball, but when staying in one place, lays very much flat on the ground with all its protective gear on top. It can crawl forward without losing protection, but is very slow. When flat, not easily noticeable, and grips whatever is beneath it. Most vulnerable while switching positions. It has two functions.

  • It has a camera and sound sensors, for which Eira has a small portable screen and headphones. (She can set up the screen in her mech too.)

  • It can self-destruct with a very powerful explosion.

Nice spreadsheet. Gotta agree with Herzi, that column L is pretty great.I'd suggest making the Achievements section less bulky by way of having a column for each of the standardized ones that multiple people have, then a single column for unique achievements and having it listed in a note which unique things they have. No need to have an entire column dedicated to Kasim's Lucky Ego (though it's quite apt for this to have a column to itself), Maeven's Mechanical Apprentice, Andrea's Mistress of Webs, and so on.

That's actually exactly what Querzi had suggested to me when I showed him, and precisely what I had planned on doing when I restructure the traits section.

Niiiiice. Why is Magic it's own column instead of being notes for Apprentice/Wizened? In case people gain magic via other means?

Yes, due to some uniques. Also, because the magic schools are often a defining characteristic of the character, so it felt like a good idea to put it near the front, much like the primary weapon choice.

EDIT: L Column may be my favourite

Everybody's gotta have some fun from time to time, amirite?
