Ultana Whelen - Seidoujima Island - Market District - Magumaguro Ramen
"Yea, it really depends on who makes it but it's a precooked dried block of noodles that you can boil in hot water on the stove or microwave, generally coming in a cup, and usually comes with a packet of seasoning. A really convenient food for those on their own or who don't like to cook and/or just lazy." She laughs
When Asta asked about Miso, Ultana froze as she tried to explain. "Errr, I'm not really sure myself. Something regarding Fermenting Soybeans or something? I definitely know it's pretty much a staple in the food industry in this country. Definitely makes for one tasty broth, though! Definitely my favorite after the Salt one, that's for sure." Once the waiter left after bringing them their food, and while she was mid-slurp, Asta continued their conversation and correctly guessed her origins.
Though, even though it was said friendly enough, Ultana couldn't help but feel an awkward atmosphere. Maybe it was just her, but it seemed like Asta had more to say about the topic at hand. Well, maybe not 'more to say' but I dunno....something against people from igneous? Considering the woman in question was from a good family, it's something that may actually be true.
Regardless to what Asta truly thought or What she herself was thinking, Ultana didn't care either way. She never really cared about what people thought, so another person that had something against her or where she was from meant nothing. But again, it could just be Ultana's rotten personality naturally thinking ill of others at work again and Asta could actually be a good person for all she knew.
"That's right," she confirmed with pride "Born and raised like my father and his father before him and so on. Coming here to this country is the first time being outside of Igneus, so it's been something else. Though, I do miss the mines. Never went this long without the feel of a Pick Axe in my hands."She reminisced before ruining the moment with another slurp of Ramen.
Ultana Whelen - Seidoujima Island - Market District - Local Ramen Store
Ultana lead Asta to a local ramen shop that she first stumbled upon when she was wandering around aimlessly when she first arrived at the accademy. Her nose caught a whiff of a heavenly smell from down the straight and her legs pulled her on over and she's been coming here ever since for the majority of her meals. She of course went to other places but more often than not would find herself here most of the time. Who can say no to cheap-yet-filling quality food?
Good as it is, it's not a place you'd imagine finding a girl from a well off family dining at. The moment Asta mentioned 'having maids', Her Eyebrow began twitching. Ugh, one of 'those' types. After some internal grumbling and regret over not walking away, they find a seat and glance over the menu. After going through and translating the different types of ramen they have to Asta, Ultana calls the waiter over and orders herself a Salt Ramen with some extra chicken added to it. Once everything is ordered, she brings up what Asta asked before.
"You were asking about 'instant food' earlier, right? After we're done eating here we can go to a convenience store, a small retail store that sells a variety of everyday items, and check out the variety of 'instant' food they have, if you'd like. They have all types there, from stuff needing a microwave or hot water and or a stove, canned foods or things out of bags (like potato chips) and such. Instant ramen is a popular choice as well."
Ultana Whelen - Seidoujima Island - Market District
With as quick as it took for the old couple to bail, she wondered if she should've just continued walking by but it's far too late now. Especially since she already started talking to her. Regret aside, she doesn't like to half-ass things. Lost while food hunting, huh? As she listened further, it turns out that she's one of the transfer students from Arcanis that they heard at the end of class earlier. Intended or not, eventually the questions she had about them ended up being answered anyways.
"Brunnhildr, eh?"She's a Valkyrie, hmm? Ultana chucked inwardly to herself. But Ears and a Tail? From what she knows, the north is pretty much Beast-men dominated. So her family are beast-men....Adopted, huh?"I'm Ultana Whelen, Miner by family trade. But yea, was in your position a month and a half ago myself, so I've explored around whenever I had some free time. It really depends on what kind food you're into, though."
By the looks of Asta, She really didn't seem like the type that'd be into the kind of food Ultana was into. Which of course was Meat, fried food and well, not exactly luxurious dining. "Hmmmm, might not be your kind of places, but I've got some places in mind if you're looking for some places to eat?" she offered. There was a particular ramen place she was fond of and while Asta seemed like the kind of person that usually annoys her, she was still hungry and had a craving for some ramen. Either way it was a win-win for her.
Ultana Whelen - Seidoujima Island - Market District
Enjoying one of her favorite fried foods ever, French Fries, she continued to walk down the street looking into the windows of the shops she passes to see if there's any sales. Ultana wasn't looking for anything in particular, just your typical window shopping to relieve some boredom. As she was nearing the next shop, she noticed a girl with raven black hair in a long blue dress and white blouse in the distance. To her, it really stood out because it didn't seem like something one would wear out on the town.
But then again, this was Ultana we were talking about. She's not exactly the poster child for feminine charm or anything remotely close, after all. A total tomboy, closest thing to dressing feminine would be the Chinese tang suit she normally wears. So long story short, she has no fashion sense whatsoever and is probably out of touch in what exactly is 'normal'. Anyways, as she got closer, Ultana could see her trying to communicate with an older couple but didn't exactly look like things were going well.
And just when she was about to walk passed them, as soon as she heard the girl speak, she stopped. It was a dialect that she was quite familiar with. Given how soft-spoken the girl, it took her a moment to pick up on it. What region was it from again? The mines of Igneus Caute attracted all sorts of people from all over, but she definitely heard it before. As she lost herself in thought, her grip on the french fry in her hand slipped and fell on her shirt, leaving a nice ketchup mark on it.
Luckily, her shirt was red to begin with so it wasn't very noticeable. But unfortunately, she found herself short one french fry. Damnit.... Wiping her shirt, she approached the girl and asked in English "You're from Arcanis, right? Given how confused these old fossils are, you need some help yea?"
Her return to the dorms lasted only 20 minutes before growing bored. Normally if she was back home, this would usually be around the time she'd hole up in the mines but she couldn't exactly go around digging up on academy grounds. In her one month of coming to the academy, she has grown restless without much to do. Sure, she could always train to kill boredom but she always has time for that. With golden week now here, she could probably hit the town and do some sight seeing proper.
Leaving the dorms behind, she headed off into the town. Hmm, maybe I should see what kind of food they have in town.
It's been a full month since she officially enrolled at Silvergate and still hasn't gotten any closer to finding the answers she seeks. With a sigh, she decided to get her mind off it and opened the spellbook that was in front of her. "Arcture Spellbook Volume 3" It was given to them at the beginning of the school year, one month ago. Though, there was only a few spells in the volume that actually interested her. "Healing Light" and "Ward Of Shields" Given the spells and skills she knows already, she felt a strong need to learn a support and Defense spell.
After all, she wouldn't last long if all she had was offensive spells. Granted, she has that one restraining spell but it's not exactly a skill can she constantly throw around. If she could master "Ward Of Shields", it could definitely help her in the future and a healing spell wouldn't hurt either. Over the course of the month, she was able to get the incantations down pat to where she can easily remember them by heart. As she lazily turned through the pages, halfway tuning out the teacher, she was brought back to reality when the teacher cast his spell.
One word, all it took was one word and he was able to pull out 1 scan spell out of 5 and get the one he wanted. It was definitely amazing, to get all that just from one word, not even amazing could fully cover how great that was. If one could master a spell like that and shorten it to one word, not to mention link it with physical movement.....it would make fighting so much easier. It's definitely something that would Aid spells with long incantations....Hmm, I wonder if there's limits regarding the shortening of certain spells...
Suffice to say, she paid attention to the rest of the class. Before the teacher dismissed the class for golden week, he mentioned new transfer students from Arcanis one month from now. I wonder what they're like and where in Arcanis they're from...Less headaches the better. Losing interest the moment she left the classroom, she decided to head back to the dorm and decide what she'll do during golden week.
Personality: Rude, Violent, Impulsive, Stubborn and Hot-headed are just some of the terms most people might describe her. Some would even go as far as to call her a rabid dog with the way she loses her cool and is quick to resort to violence. She’s a girl that lives and does things her way, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong.
Backstory: Born to a family of miners, Ultana always was found in the caverns, regardless if she was allowed to or not, security watching the entrances be damned. Ultana practically lived in the caves, to the point she knew them as well as any adult would. Ever since her childhood, she was a reckless tomboy that was always quick to resort to violence in any dispute. More often than not, this would often get her into trouble with kids her age and adults alike.
Like most who were born into a mining family, she was raised and trained in the Arts Of Smoldering Earth, a Spell Knight style that was born and perfected through a series of hostile conflicts that followed the demise of the great magician. While trained in it, not many are able to master or advance far with it due to the difficulty of the skills and forms, with many being quick to abandon it.
Because of this, it was merely seen as basic training with many preferring to simply resort to old fashioned brawling. Granted, growing up, Ultana was definitely one of the many who thought it was pointless. After frequent struggles trying to learn it, she easily grew frustrated with it and began seeing it as a waste of time like most kids who give up when things don’t go their way. It wouldn’t be until a few years later, when she was around 13-14 until she began taking it seriously again.
The event that inspired it all, began like any other. Each group of miners was each designated plots or areas in the mine to dig, with space given between them as to not interfere with the others. The group she was usually in was with her father, grandfather and a few of their drinking buddies. The Mining business was generally hit or miss in regards to finds, but lately her grandfather was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the areas they were able to mine. It was generally first come, first serve but lately they’d find certain areas of the mine sealed off with armed guards, all with the same emblem on their shoulders, and always found themselves chased and pushed away from areas while other shady people took over their dig sites. It’s something that started weeks prior when her father and grandfather started finding strange artifacts in their sites.
Not getting any leads as to what exactly they were, but eventually people started getting it in their heads that the items might’ve belonged to the great magician who once called this area his home. Just the slightest touch of suspicion was enough for a certain scholar to send his goons to the mine and block everything off. Having enough, her grandfather and father snuck into the mine was security was at its weakest, to go back to the site. Naturally, a certain girl was supposed to be in her bed, saw them and followed into the mine.
While they weren’t too pleased when they found her out, they eventually allowed her to tag along. After sneaking past some of the armed men, they managed to successfully infiltrate the dig site. After a few hours of digging, her grandfather finally found something. It was a bulky and really tattered old book. When he opened the book, the text was all over the place and wasn’t able to understand a single word or letter in it but was excited about it all the same.
However, not long after returning to the surface with it and began investigating it, the group tracked them down in an isolated location. Surrounding them, demanding they hand over the book, claiming it belonged to them. When her grandfather, without hesitation, refused, the armed men decided to take it by force. Gravely underestimating him, the group charged at him all at once before a good deal of them fell to a massive tremor caused by her grandfather.
Watching him taking them out in such a devastating fashion made her totally forget the situation they were in and looked on with excitement. Here her grandfather was, using a spell knight style she wrote off as a joke and totally impossible to master, with ease taking out a bunch of trained and armed guards. It was incredible, that was until they eventually overwhelmed him with their numbers and eventually wore him down.
Ultana quickly went from happy and excited to as if her soul was ripped out from her body. They didn’t just stop at taking the book from him, taking advantage of his weak state, they wasted no time in killing him. Whatever that book was, it was something those shady bastards, and whoever employed them, were willing to kill for it. Naturally, the men didn’t fail to notice her presence.
As they moved towards her, her father, who was helping her grandfather fight the men off, got in front of them and tried to buy some time for her to run. While she did end up running away, she was eventually caught. However, fate would have it, a knight from another land intervened and the rest was history. Given her state at the time, losing her father and grandfather, she couldn’t recall his name or what he looked like but would stick in her mind was the fact he was sent from the capital on an unrelated matter. She did vaguely remember the emblem on the shady bastards uniforms. It was a depiction of some sort of winged beast, an emblem she never saw personally but familiar all the same. After spending the time afterwords to take Smoldering Earth seriously, she decided to take her attention to Silvergate Academy. She figured there'd be a better chance at finding out who those people were if she went to Silvergate as opposed to the knight academy, where all sorts of people could be found there.

@CelsiusWoa, long time no see fay. I'll give it a once over but no promises. Really depends on how L's new rp goes, if it's successful than probably not. ff14 and other games have most of my time lol. Literally came back to this site and back in contact with Itano like a month or so ago. Still kicking off the rust. xD
