[[I'll post up the OOC soon, though it'll honestly be identical to the Interest Check. I'm hoping to get a small group of committed and capable individuals to have the honor to experience this RP with. This is not going to be some large-scale, drop-in & drop-out RP; its gonna need consistency.]]
Goodie, goodie! So glad to see players interested!

[[Seriously though, I'll wait for a couple more before starting up the OOC.]]
This problem arose when I was trying to keep a Character Sheet organized. Thought I would make it public.

Onto the actual test:

In code, the hiders should theoretically work. Picture of the coding:

What about my everywhere?

In all seriousness though, ask Mahz. I'm sure there's some reason why, whatever the reason is, although Kaga's reason seems to be adequate enough to believe. We do need our whimsy.
You know you have an RP problem, if you identify with any of the "you know you have an RP problem" statements on this thread, including this one but excluding any of the outrageously unrelatable ones.
I've seen every episode (and Avatar Extra episode) of the original series. I haven't read many of the comics. I've seen the movie. I have only seen the first episode of Korra, not because I don't like it but because of issues in viewing the show (in terms of accessibility and the time to see it).

I feel old. I feel it was just yesterday that I was with my older brother watching Nickelodeon to see an episode of Avatar for the sixth time. Apparently, it wasn't just yesterday.

Thanks.
Frankly, I don't know. At all.

The reason has to do with the differences between Casual and Advanced than with the actual term "High-Casual".

Usually, I see "High-Casual" when the RP requires longer posts, but I don't see why that makes it more advanced. I mean, I'm an advanced RPer, and quantity actually means less in Advanced than it does in Casual. That isn't to say that posts in Advanced are often short - they usually aren't; they are usually quite lengthy indeed.

Simply, I don't believe length makes it Casual or Advanced. I think its the quality that decides whether it is Casual or Advanced because I have honestly read whole walls of textual crap in advanced but then also five sentences of written glory. I reference to the RP "Blight" that I'm in right now, which has had a couple posts that are pretty short that are from the GM himself, yet the whole of the RP seems to fit the standard that has been created for Advanced RPs.

Therefore, I'm not sure why people use "High-Casual". I mean, if we think about it critically, it probably isn't one, simple reason. It can be a multitude of reasons. Maybe they wanted to reach a specific pool of people? Maybe even a smaller or larger pool? Perhaps they have their own beliefs as to what constitutes an Advanced or a Casual RP and have decided that their RP is between the two? Maybe they just like flinging the word around? Who knows?

I just don't think that this topic is simple enough to answer correctly.

RP interests/Genres/Categories:

  • Genres/Types of RPs:
    - Fantasy RPs: Generally, I prefer Fantasy RPs in any of its diverse flavors.
    - Supernatural/Mythological RPs: Read above.
    - Science Fiction RPs: I don't do these all that much, but I don't have any glaring qualms about them; they just don't interest me as much as some other genres.
    - Drama/Suspense/Thriller RPs: If it's not typical drama, like High School Life or something, but something hard-hitting, something that is either very original, creative or causes me to think or feel, then I like it. I don't do many of these, but the ones I do are usually pretty great.
    - Survival RPs: I usually enjoy these. I like the challenge of being both a good writer and an ingenuitive survivor. Plus, the mix of characterization and relationships that are usually in the mix are good.
    - Adventure RPs: Isn't any RP an adventure, in its own way? I like adventure in all of its forms.
    - Comedy RPs: Of the very few "comedy" RPs that I've seen, I've been utterly confused and repulsed from the funky gangbang of randomness.
    - Mystery RPs: These are usually a basket toss and rely most on the GM and the RP's mechanics, so I can't really make a clear opinion on them.
    - Horror RPs: Personally, I consider Horror RPs as a darker form of Drama, just like with Suspense RPs, so I have the same thoughts on them; I don't want something super cliche.
    - SoL RPs: I don't normally do these all that much, but the few I've actually done have been surprisingly pleasant. Something about deeper development and finding beauty and something worth writing in everyday lives is nice. Its also nice to see how heavily character development and relationships can play in an RP. I tend to be very picky with these though, as I have an unspoken list of requirements to separate SoL smut from what I consider quality.
    - Combat-Oriented RPs: The thrill of a fight is always enjoyable. Always. Plus, I enjoy all the thinking and creativity that has to be done while writing in combat.
    - Romance RPs: Never done one, but I feel like these things can be slippery slopes, so I tend to stay away.
    - Canon/Historical/"Allusion" RPs: RPs based on shows, books, history, video games, etc. aren't really their own genre, since being based on another work isn't actually a type of RP, but I felt I should mention these. Basically, if the actual RP is good, then I wouldn't mind it, even if the hated the original work/event/universe it is based off of. The converse is also true. In my past, I've preferred and done a number of Naruto and Fairy Tail RPs.
    - Hybrid RPs: Since I know no RP is distinctly one genre, I felt like I had to mention what I call "Hybrid RPs", which are really just any RPs. In other words, I like Hybrid RPs profusely.

Ultimately, it's on a case-by-case basis, I may like on RP of one genre but hate another in the same genre. The above opinions should only be a guideline.

  • Favored Level of Roleplay: Advanced, although I used to be a Casual RPer, but as I've matured, I've started enjoying Advanced over Casual. Thus, I'd still be okay with a Casual RP under the right circumstances. In all honesty though, considering my preferences, I'd fit somewhere between Casual and Advanced, where quality has priority over quantity, but where activity is hustling-and-bustling (what can I say, I can be impatient sometimes).

I enjoy Nation RPs on occasion.

When it comes to Tabletop RPs, I've never done them. Some seem very interesting, but the part that terms me off is all the different things that have to be kept track of. That said, I wouldn't mind trying one out.

I have never done a Free or 1x1 RP. For whatever reason (some reasons obvious, some not), I don't prefer them. Maybe if I had a good RP partner and friend with a nice RP, then I would try 1x1, but with anyone, I just can't.

I personally think a few distinctions need to be made.

Are we talking about the people with those sexual orientations, the actions of those who identify with either orientation or the ideas that are the orientations?

Also, once that distinguishment is made, in what meaning of the word are we using "discrimination" (and the related words)? What do we mean when we use it? Are we comparing the items and saying one is better than the other? Are we simply saying they are different but equal? Perhaps the word is even being used in another meaning?

Finally, once those two distinctions are made, what is really being debated here, using the prior distinctions to figure this out?

As an outside observer, I'm confused over where some of the civil debate has headed, so I'm asking for these distinctions for my sake and the debate's sake.
That said, I ended up looking at the old quotes I had on my signature, from an archive website, and I almost teared up a bit, reading all the old memories and letting my mind wander and reminisce.

I didn't end up crying, but I definitely smiled and choked up a bit. Its just weird to know how much of my life is actually intertwined with you guys. I still feel like when I first joined the site, especially now with the site being reborn and all. This is just a reminder that, although things are different and new, the best is not in the past but in the present; new memories, better memories are being made as we speak.

As the quote goes, "The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."

Here's to the gift of today. Glad I get to spend it with you folk.

-- -- --

Anyways, here's the picture of the quotes from the site. Excuse the ego that is apparent in the quotes, but when I quoted something it was because it was both an enjoyable memory and one that I was directly a part of. Oh, and before you get confused, my username was GAGK before it was Ichthys; I changed it back in 2012 or something like that.

To turn this into a valid discussion, here's some questions to consider:

If you were on the old RPG, what are some of your favorite memories? If you're willing to disclose them, what were your least favorite memories?

What are some of the memories you've made on the new site already?

What do you think is the value of memories?
