*in a southern accent* A-okay, Mr. Ya'll. I ain't gonna be closing up this RP just yet. Submit applications until 'yer filled.

*in his normal voice* How is the IC going to be tackled? Easy. I set up the environment in the first post, give you some options to start off with (although you can easily make up your own little option, if you can be ingenious enough - I definitely have a lengthy chart with arrows pointing everywhere to different parts of the story), then I let you free to make a choice. Development should be a constant thing, regardless of what's going on, but I'm not about that whole boring and obligatory intro posts-thing that most RPs do. I'll be starting you off in the same place with the plot already rolling; its up to you to figure out (as well as create) how you got to that point and where you will go from there.

Also, when doing the personality, can you please make clear what the 7 traits are, if you haven't done so already. If that means just simply listing 7 traits under the personality section, that is fine by me.
Do you guys want me to ruin the first thing that will happen in the RP? *snicker* Someone may or may not die, and it may or may not be one of the characters. *snicker again* I won't say who yet. You may or may not know them... I may or may not be trying to mislead you.

~~~
I won't be accepting or denying anyone just yet. I want to see how many people will climb on board at first and then choose from that pool of players.
[[I regret separating myself from "The GM" persona. I really do.]]
Yeah, I would make the conclusion that is would be really difficult to do such a thing. Mentally, we compartmentalize everything. We have different types of memories, different areas for different processing, different schemas for different subjects, etc. It would ultimately be very difficult to be able to think of "he" and "she" as the same "they", mostly due to our society and how we work, in social terms. However, in the right environment, one where man and woman has not been organized as two separate things - basically, a world without any idea for "gender" - it would be possible. It can also be possible with deliberate retraining, with purposeful "reorganizing" of your schemas within gender, but that's hard to do when all around us men are masculine.and women and feminine.
If you're talking about bias and generalization because of gender (gender roles and all that), then it is still difficult to see things as wholly equal, but it would be a lot more possible. The reason it is so difficult would be attributed to our society again; its just how we roll. The original classifications and assignments for each gender weren't made willy-nilly, however. Most were made for perfectly fine reasons. For instance, men are just biologically primed to be stronger and larger than women, in terms of mass and muscle, so it wasn't a big leap to classify men as the more "tough" and "protective guardian" gender, when it is easier for them to be the protector, due to their body composition. Women can make babies, men can't. Thus, women began stereotyped as the "homemakers" and all that. It was just a natural order of events, a normal train of thought.
Now, that's not to say gender roles can't switch around and change because they can. It's just that the ones we have now were not made for no good reason. It should also be noteworthy that our society, as it currently is, is a lot more "equal" between the genders than we have been in the last few hundred years, so there's that at least.
^ Brovo summed it up nicely.
Don't judge an RP because of where it comes from, judge it because of how it is.
Hail, BIrd Jesus.
I like this piece, Ace. That said, I don't like the texture overlay you got going. I think it might look better without it. Still, its a nice, little piece.
Tossing this into the mix to see how the different parties respond:
  • I see a lot of biblical referencing in this debate with people recounting stories/events in the Bible to prove if something is right or wrong. This leads to the following questions: If something is mentioned in the BIble, does that directly mean it is acceptable or unacceptable, considering some of these stories/events never actually comment on whether the act was good/bad? In other words, is it merely a historical event and just that or is it an example of what is/isn't allowable? Also something to consider is who committed the acts in each situation: was the person who did such things, like rape, supposed to be someone good or bad? To put it in biblical terms, does that fact that either a "saved" or "unsaved" person committed the act change anything?
  • I see that the statement that If someone acts a certain way, then it must mean that they thought it first. Therefore, thinking and doing are the same thing. ~~~ That said, does thinking one thing really equate to enacting that behavior? If someone has the thought of killing someone but never acts on it, are they still a murderer? What is murder without an actual, well, murder?
  • Not to mention, some Psychologists have theorized that personality can actually be changed under the right circumstances (source: http://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2012-10-18/henry-kellerman-personality-how-it-forms; I suggest listening to the whole podcast), so if this theory is true, then is sexual orientation, if taken as a facet of personality, a valid argument against what a person is vs what they do? Does someone's mere actions dictate who they are as a whole, is it their thoughts only, is it both thought and behavior or is there more involved, especially if personality (which is defined as the pattern of thinking, feeling and behaving by the APA) can, in fact, be changed? To put it another way, if personality can change and sexual orientation is a part of personality, can the orientation be changed or not? Is it ultimately a choice? And if it is a choice, is that enough to say
  • On the topic of biblical theology and all that: First off, I notice most scriptural references are from the Old Testament, but wasn't some of the Old Testament, in terms of some of the rules in it, made null because of Jesus Christ? If this is true, what parts of it are still applicable and which ones are void?
  • As there are many Judeo-Christian denominations, doesn't the fact that there are so many different beliefs under the same religion make the religion unreliable? What makes one different from another? Is it the same God? The same religion? And related to this topic, what is the point of using different translations? If the BIble is supposed to be eternal and "God's word", then does believing in solely one translation prove that the previous claim is false? What makes on translation correct and not another? Are they all correct?
  • Since, according to the fundamental principles of evolution, the primary goal of any living species is to pass on the best genes for survival and reproduce (survival of the fittest and all that), and since Homosexuality is, in essence, a "mutation" (if it even is a mutation) that works against survival of the fittest, is that enough ground to discriminate against them from a strictly scientific perspective? What about from a moral one? In other words, can the argument be made that if Homosexuality is not compliant to evolution, it a deterrent to the advancement of the human race?
That should be enough to keep you guys thinking. Remember, in debate, the winner (if you can even claim there is a winner) is the one who debates the best. That does not mean they were persuasive. The point of Debate is not to persuade the other or to blatantly shoot someone down, but to effectively defend your own stance (like in English class). "Winning" (and that term is used loosely) does not mean you are correct, just as "losing" (also used loosely) doesn't mean you are wrong. Merely it is a competition of who can defend better, not attack. Overall, its really just a way to see other people's points of view and letting that affect you in whatever way it does, whether it makes you stronger in your original beliefs or adopt new ones.
Why, yes, I am a neutral observer. Oh, and yes, I did participate in Debate Club back in High School (not yet in University). Why, I do enjoy playing Devil's advocate for all parties. Thank you for noticing.
The following is an accurate representation of how I feel right now.
The OOC is up, you beautiful people. Behold my handiwork!
[[Disclaimer: I will be "in character" (so to speak) within the OOC, to add to the air of mystery and to immerse the players within the RP even more than a traditional one. The "in character" Ichthys (called The GM) is a middleman between the RP world and us; he breaks the 4th wall and has awareness of both the IC and OOC. Imagine him as as non living but sentient thing that lives between reality and the RP (like a virtual, RP Deadpool without the crazy). Please note that anything not within double brackets is to be considered "in character." Now, from henceforth, I am no longer just Ichthys, I am The GM.]]
Hello! I am The GM of this RP, which is ironically titled "Untitled." (That [01] simply means that this is the first installment of the RP.) This RP is intended to be a discovery for both the players and the characters, so I'm doing my best to keep you in the dark. That said, below is all the currently available information conveniently organized as a FAQ.
  • What is the setting of the RP?
    The RP is set in modern day times in any general, westernized, first world country. However, the actual world can be considered a bit different than Earth, but those differences will not come into play just yet.
  • Can you give me any information on the history of the world? Any major events? Anything at all?
    Yeah... NOPE! Besides, most of the good stuff hasn't been created yet. The actual RP universe is kind of like a coloring book that will be colored in by you guys, whether you are aware of it or not. That's not to say I don't have anything because I do. To reuse the coloring book comparison, I have created the black-and-white outlines, you guys have the colored crayons. You may choose to color one thing and not another, rip a whole page out of the book, and even make your own drawings on an empty page. But like any coloring book, it will also come to a clear, complete end.
  • What genre would you consider the RP to be?
    All of the genres, hopefully. If this is done right, we'll experience a multitude of the genres at sometime or another. From drama and mystery, to fantasy, to sci-fi, to romance, to horror and more.
  • How is the RP going to be, in terms of how it will feel like?
    This RP is supposed to work similar to a sort of "choose your own adventure" type of thing, but the similarities to that sort of genre are thin; it isn't a typical CYOA (with the apparent and clear choices, etc.) at all. Imagine it like a hybrid between an anthology and a continuum. Things may change to where is no longer feels like the same RP, but at the same time, it still is the same RP.
  • Any information on important aspects of the RP? For example, will things like supernatural creatures or magic or advanced weaponry or aliens come into play?
    All I can say is, maybe.
  • Why is the character sheet so bare?
    Considering the nature of this RP, a simple character is all you need for now. A history is also not necessary at the character's conception, and it is encouraged and expected that their past will be developed and created over the course of this RP.
  • What kind of character can I create?
    Right now, you can only create a basic character (a base that will be built upon as the RP progresses). Your character may change as things progresses though. In other words, you can only create a human; your basic, cookie-cutter, regular John and Jane Doe. Though, through the course the RP, John Doe may have been an intergalactic vampire hunter hellbent on time travelling and Jane may have become a former serial killer turned investigative reporter who has had love affairs with ghosts.
  • Will my character die at some point?
    Since every action has some sort of consequence (positive or negative), death is a definite possibility, but your RPing won't stop at death; I have plans.
  • So this RP is gonna be a crazy mess of random crap?
    When looking at the big picture, it may seem like it, but in reality it isn't. All things will escalate and de-escalate and change and morph gradually. It won't be a simple slice-of-life in one round, then all of a sudden an alien invasion by the next round. I promise.
  • What are the rules?
    Just the usual Guild and RP rules and etiquette. To summarize: Don't be stupid, be cool like the Fonz and be a decent human being and writer.
  • What level of activity are you expecting?
    I expect a post a week from each player, and considering the small number of players, that'll be easy enough to achieve. If for whatever reason you can't uphold this standard, tPM Ichthys. I, The GM, don't get PMs.
  • How many people are you accepting into the RP?
    A small, committed handful of skilled writers and RPers; what that means in terms of actual numbers is unknown. Let it be known that I value consistency and commitment over anything else.
  • Are you aware that you are not actually real but a character yourself?
    Yep, and you know you can do the same yourself. By that I mean being able to break the wall between the IC and OOC. Once you create your character, feel free to have your IC character put their two cents in the OOC, although anything that happens in the OOC cannot affect the IC at all. You may also not do the opposite, which is to have the real, OOC you affect the characters in the IC - that's my job as GM. The opportunity to have your character take part in the OOC is just for kicks-and-giggles. *giggles and kicks something*
  • Any last pieces of information?
    Yes, but I'm not telling you off-the-bat, and, uhh... yeah, that's it.
Now, if you have any further questions, feel free to ask them! Just be aware that I may not answer them. Anyways, here's the character sheet.
Name: (First, Last)
Age: (No younger than 18ish, no older than 40ish - this is just for the sake of realism; it'll be weird to see a 12 or 120 year old go through such an adventure)
Gender: (Male or Female)
Appearance: (No Anime, but Digital Art is allowed. Realistic Paintings/Drawings are preferred over actual photos or hyperrealism; written descriptions are allowed as well.)
Personality: (Give 7 traits, easy as that - can be anything from hot-headed to softspoken and narcissistic.)
Post Example: (Obvious what this is; used for the application process)
