Description: 6’2” and 180 lbs, a well-built man with once-dark brown hair gone almost entirely to silver, with hazel eyes

Biography

Ben Lahan was born to a privileged home in Union Vale, located in upstate New York’s Hudson Valley. The eldest of two sons, Ben was always something of an overachiever and always, almost obsessively, devoted himself earning his personal successes entirely on his own.

Ben Lahan was a West Point graduate, and played on both the ice hockey and lacrosse teams. Like so many Point grads, he entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Unlike so many Point grads though, Ben never once chose to fall back on those ‘laurels’ to skate through to expected promotions and standing.

He married Miriam Denise (nee Cooke) in his mid-20s, a marriage that by all accounts was very happy. Ben and Miriam had two children, Thomas “Tom” (21) and Adrienne (17). Where Miriam remained a dedicated stay-at-home mother, raising their children and keeping straight all the myriad responsibilities of an officer’s – and then a commander’s – wife, Ben’s career took off like a shot. Smart, competent, clever and damn hard worker, by the time of the Sino-Korean War, MG Benjamin Lahan commanded the 4th ID out of Fort Carson, CO.

During that time though, Miriam succumbed to ovarian cancer at the age of 44. When his deployment ended, Ben chose to take over the command at The Mountain, forgoing a more politically advantageous position to spend additional time with his youngest child Adrienne.

Things did not work out according to plan. (WIP)

Personality: By this time in his five year shift, Ben maintains a veneer of warmth and approachability that, in most circumstances, suffices to cover over a great deal of pain and grief just beneath that surface. He is proud though, and will not tolerate even the least sign of pity.

eta: quitting is awesome, and good on you hon! But try an e-cig - they really do help. I know lots of people who quit that way.

Of course it's alright Kuro! More than alright and... That does it! It'll be lashes with wet pasta if you worry about your posts anymore!

And just for what it's worth, if you'd like your character to introduce him or herself? Or just sit there in his/her seat and stew about being shy and not wanting to say anything? Well that works too. If you don't want a post like that, just say so here and we can certainly move on when everyone's ready :)

eta: and it's already been a long day here, and I may or may not be running on 3 hours or so of sleep, because *test anxiety* I'm going to get up a couple more pertinent CS's today like I said, but mostly just sit here and watch the pretty shadow patterns on my walls from the forest.

Thanks Kuro and Lil! The tests we take are all online, and multiple choice in the format of the NCLEX, so it's a lot easier for a computer-generated result when it's just "right or wrong," and spit it out at us is all. But... Your nightmare class still makes ME shudder, hope you hear back really soon. I don't doubt you did fantastic (you always do!) but still... The waiting... :P
