Her gaze returning to Souma as he spoke, Galina gave the man a small, sideways grin - and then she laughed. She had not caught what passed between brother and sister, not exactly, but the gist was clear enough to her discerning ears. Ai would tolerate her brother's choice, however much she disapproved - and maybe it had been a decision well-lubricated with those two servings of sake?

No matter, there would be no bloodshed. Galina had still bowed respectfully to Ai as she left, far lower than the meager, reluctant bow she'd been given. She steadfastly ignored the pang of hurt she could do nothing to settle as she watched Ai depart, a ghost of wistfulness lingering in her dark eyes. She remained silent for a moment longer, until after the Takahiro Matriach was gone, before letting the breath she held past her lips when Souma's voice washed over her.

"Oh no Souma, I apparently know far less about yakuza than I ought. If I'd understood near so much as I and my foolish pride once believed? I might have avoided a broken rib or two about a month or so ago?" Galina winked slyly at Souma, grinning widely, letting him know without a word that she was merely teasing - and enjoying herself at that.

"No, what I know best is very dangerous people. I grew up among them. Ai is one, and you most certainly are." Such words from most anyone else might have sounded as if they verged on insulting, but spoken as Galina did then? There was not the least doubt, she considered this the very highest of praise.

She shrugged lightly, still smiling as she leaned forward, her matchless voice lowering conspiratorially. "The secret is, never let them see your fear! Dangerous people can smell fear you know, and it drives them simply mad. Let one catch a whiff of your fear, your hesitation or worry or doubt?" She traced the edge of one thumb lightly across her neck, lifting her eyebrows meaningfully.

"You're a dead man... " Her dark eyes widened playfully, mouth pursed to a tiny "o" and her fingers wiggling at him for a moment before her hands fell back to her lap. Galina interlaced her fingers with a sigh, chuckling softly as her expression became more thoughtful. The laughter tapered away as she studied nothing in particular on the small, elegant table, her face inscrutable for several long moments.

- Until her face snapped back up to Souma's, something dark and very dangerous flitting swiftly across her face, no matter the sudden, sly and feral smile. "Come, show me all we will need - free, found, just waiting to be taken, yes? - so we will make dead men of our very own."
Oh no, that's fine Lil - I'd rather wait on your post before I do, to wrap the characters all into one for now. Just making sure, and hoping for your lining up thing!
Lil, were you still planning to post tonight? If so, I'll gladly wait to wrap things into a larger post with Vasily and Antonina and/or Nadejda too
Ah yes, the pregnant Catholic girl and the gay guy bestie - I'm feeling a sitcom here...
I liked Justric's format, so hijacking it:

Abby

Status: Currently nabbing some food at least on the lunch date that was not, and brainstorming all the inconsistencies that had to do with a murderer's handiwork.

Future: Abby and her MPs will likely hit a world of conflicting shit in the future, along the plot lines required for guns and boots on the ground. As for a romantic interest? Well I imagine it's rather obvious by now, however understated of course - though it seems dating may be a lot more difficult an achievement than anyone imagined possible! By the time of New Canaan, I would like to see her able to rebuild all the beautiful, precious parts of their old world, family and ideals.

Pauline

Status: Likely concluding the strangest conversation with the funny and handsome cryotech before she heads back to work - and maybe messages Dr. Park.

Future: A great deal of pretty damned awful in the near future, in all likelihood. A lot of that though, will depend on how things shake out in the end. I would love a happy ending for Pauline, with her little girl, but we shall see! Romantically, Pauline is currently unattached - oh, and not Connor's type either *grins* Idle and I had spoken something or other before, but nothing was ever permanently solidified of course.

Devika

Status: Currently stomping on toes and likely pissing off all the wrong people like the fiery little hellion that she is.

Future: For Devi, this is entirely malleable. In the near future? Nothing good, I imagine, and frankly I haven't yet decided what Devika's ultimate fate will be. Romantically, she is not linked to anyone - though I imagine it would take a man of a decidedly solid and confident personality to give her a go. And again, what ultimately happens to Devika will depend on a great number of decisions, and likely a roll of the dice or two.
Someone very dear to me is named Morgan, is all. Lovely post though I'll admit I'm at a loss of what to do with Bree until Ethan shows up. I could just as easily keep her in the hotel room though - that'd be a fun shock to her system!
Well thank you Kuro

For Everybody: This RP has really grown into something quite amazing, with a slew of in-depth characters that are, frankly, amazing. This, obviously, is because of the amazing caliber of writers that got together here and made all this happen. There is nothing more I would like to see, than the Last Kings of Orion make it to a cogent ending, one way or another. Frankly, if there was ever an RP that deserved an ending, it is this one. From the beginning the idea was that everyone involved was a co-GM, one way or another, though obviously controlled anarchy might not have been the best way to go. I have two separate plot lines in my head that I would like to see to fruition, both of which involve - or potentially involve - everyone's characters along the way.

What I would really like, is to have a quick role call for those still writing, and I would dearly appreciate having input from all of you on where you would like to see your characters headed, and what endings you foresaw for them. PM me if you like, though I highly encourage you all to actually speak up here in the OOC as well, if for no other reason than to bounce ideas around, throw a few things against the wall, and see what sticks
Devika peered at the pad in her hands, noting the minutes that passed and, when she judged enough had passed for Hob, she rapped against the door, exactly as she'd promised. Hearing no protest, she pressed her hand firmly against the entry pad, waving to the three young women who accompanied her to follow as she walked back into the NI chamber.

"Hey there Hob," she said as she walked up to the man laying on the memory foam of his tube, laying her hand lightly on his arm. Devika smiled down to him, not minding in the least if all she saw was that same cautious wariness as he studied her, and measured her words thoughtfully against her deeds. She would likely be judged so by him for some time yet to come, and Devi knew that was really only fair.

"I don't know if you caught their names before, but this is Iliana, Nicole and Ernestine." She nodded to each of the medical technicians in turn. "And they're in training, as of today, to learn what I expect them to monitor while you and your team members are in your chambers." Only the most observant of people might see that hint of a strain in Devika's smile as she spoke that last word, unable to bring herself to use the word "tube," much less look toward that far-too-tiny sliver of blackness where there would be no room to turn, every side pressing in all around. How could there ever be enough air in there? How could anyone escape... !?

She let a slow breath from her lips, the smile slipping only a little as she forced her mind back to the here and now, and to the man that needed his nurse to be a lot less neurotic. Devika chuckled nervously, just under her breath, at the memory of the merry chase she'd led the beleaguered cryotechs all over the Copernicus when they wanted to get her into one of the beds. God knew she'd made up every last excuse known to man to avoid her own airless, narrow confinement, up to and including embedding herself [completely unofficially] with the medical teams that were assisting anyone not First Shift into cryosleep.

Admittedly, in the end there was a shocking amount of tranquilizers required to still someone of such a slight body weight.

Devika sighed, forcing that grin a little wider as she shook off the memory. "Anyway, I'll admit I'm not a fan of relying solely on machines to monitor our NI personnel," she said, glancing up toward the med techs to ensure she had their attention. Devika reached into her cargo pants to pull out her stethoscope, hanging it by the earpieces about her neck as she looked back down to Hob, smiling warmly into his deep brown eyes.

"Quick translation: I'm just going to listen to your heart, your lungs, and get a 'baseline' reading before you go in. It's really just something we want as a comparison of 'normal' while you're inside on the machines, and when you come out. Listening can also tell me if your lungs are filled with yuck, if there's a heart murmur we need to look into - a lot of things electronic monitoring won't normally tell me."

She rubbed the stethoscope diaphragm swiftly against her coat, a quick lift of one dark eyebrow and a shrug of her shoulders. "Cold stethoscopes are awful, I wouldn't do that to you," she chuckled, and then put the ear pieces in to continue with her exam. Two of her fingers slid down his arm to lay across his wrist as she looked to her old fashioned wrist watch, counting off the seconds.

When Devika finally stood back to her full [if admittedly diminutive] height, she turned to the three technicians. "Record heart rate, respirations, lung and heart sounds, pulse, blood pressure - yes, without a machine. And then you'll retake them all at the end of the NI personnel's shift as well. You'll also be doing a quick neuro assessment... "

Devika reached into her pocket, for the small penlight, giving it a quick click before she her attention, and her smile, returned to Hob. "Simple enough really - just going to do that annoying 'flick of my light in your eyeballs' thing, ask you to follow my finger, look at the ceiling, look at my pen light, give me a smile, give me a frown, puff up your cheeks like a blowfish... " Hob's examination took no more than a few minutes in Devika's more-than-competent hands, and she stepped back to look at her techs, contented these three at least were following her instruction, with heads nodding and actual comprehension in their eyes. That would simply have to be enough for the moment.

She sighed once more, a small, resigned smile on her lips now as she looked to Hob. "I'd offer you a blanket, but these ladies have to put the pads on now I'm afraid, and the material would interfere with the readings to no end - it just wouldn't be safe for you. As for the oxygen masks, I've removed the mouth pieces. If anything happens in there... " Devika's voice trailed off meaningfully. She knew very well, she did not have to detail the possibility of seizures to a man who lived daily with miles of wiring crammed into his brain.

"If anything happens, biting into something that can break off could choke you - and you, Hob, are irreplaceable. Also, your choice - do you want the restraints? I'm not a fan, honestly. You are just as likely to hurt yourself on them as not. There will be someone here the entire time you are inside, monitoring your vitals as well - but again, that is entirely your choice, if you feel like you prefer the security."
HA! If you only knew, how utterly inappropriate in my world that name is for a ruthless, child-murdering gangster - sure, let's roll with it!

Lovely posts, Sweet Antonia, she makes me choke up. I liked the line about "closed-off heart."

Oh Lil, if you know me at all by now, you know I was going to get my hug for Oksana in, one way or another *evil text grins because I do not have your evil smiley GM emoticon* And I was gonna do it with the one character I felt pretty sure, Oksana wasn't going to punt across the room! *preens proudly*

*edited because Heroes posted and made most everything moot*

Lillian Thorne said Are you all on board with moving everyone to a conversation about "what next"? Or should we all move towards hunkering down for the night? We have a couple of ways to play this out, a torchlit journey up the mountain or that can be done in the morning. Let's figure out the general course of action via OOC so we can move there IC. Speak up, what is it you would like to do?

I know Vasily cannot leave the village until Sergei's body at least is likely laid up in a tomb of some sort for winter deaths - frozen ground is nigh impossible to dig into for graves. So morning would be best, in my opinion, but of course I can work with anything at all - totally flexible!
