Working on chapter 7 of my book, hoping to get a Roleplay started here soon (joining or making my own).

Honestly forgot about this website until I saw the "R" in my bookmarks bar. I'm looking to write more and am hoping to give this another try not that I've moved to a stable home.

Final Fantasy 14 has it's hands around my neck. No regrets.
Bio
Well I'm 21 years old and in college, I want to be an English/History teacher and I've been role playing for a long time now. I've ran several subreddits (most dedicated to role playing), written several stories, ran seven campaigns in table top games, and been a player in about ten table top games. I haven't even scratched the surface of role playing it seems, as I'm always learning how to be better at it!
I'm big on movies, games, and TV. I'm a pretty normal guy, love puns and jokes and just maxin, relaxin all cool (I might even shoot b-ball outside the school with you).
Hit me up if you want to chat! I'm always down for more friends! :D
This is a setting I've pretty much fleshed out, with minor inspiration drawn from the TV show "Supernatural". I ran my friends through a bit of the campaign in mind for a bit before our schedules couldn't free up to dedicate time to it. I'd love to see the story (or more) be explored in this world!
In the middle of the Pacific Ocean rests a large island that's been used as a vacation spot since 1928. It's known as the island of Anae, the island's reputation built upon white and sandy beaches, a jungle full of exotic animals, and a towering mountain casting a shadow down on the crystal clear waters of the Pacific. The Rupture occurred during the year of 1964, an anomaly taking place within the mountain, The Sumpay Mountain, that broke down the barriers between worlds that were previously thought the creation of man's faith.
This anomaly brought forth new beings from the darkest depths and the brightest heights, breaking down the walls between four worlds: Perdition, Elysium, Purgatory, and Earth. Each new world sent forth waves of it's inhabitants to fight an age old war; Elysium standing alone against the evil of Perdition and Purgatory.
The year is 2015, Earth has been in a fifty year depression as The War has been going on around the globe. Supplies are low everywhere, what little humanity has goes to the global army of Earth to fight back the otherworldly invaders. New diseases run rampant through the world, children are drafted into the military regularly, and the lines of allies and enemies grow blurry as many species choose sides. With hope wilting, the new Defense Act of 1980 plans to end the war once and for all.
The United Nations has become the global government and during the year of 1980 they erected a law to lay the foundation of Earth's new task force to stop the war. It would be comprised of different species in hopes of gaining an advantage against Earth's enemies and bring order to a world drifting deep into the sea of chaos. For twenty years, they've been preparing the debut of the first squad; candidates have been selected but not found though. These new recruits of the revolutionary task force will become judge, jury, and executioner. They'll be above the law, answering to no one but their superiors within the organization and the UN. They will be the ones who hunt the things that go bump in the night. They'll haunt their enemies nightmares. They'll become the world's first...Hunters.
1. The world spans all of the United States but don't feel discouraged if you aren't from there.
2. Weapons and materials they're made of are important to what you can do. Silver only kills some things while only weaken another.
3. You'll only be able to carry so much on your person, you might acquire a place for storage but you can't carry ammo for every single weapon as well as two pistols, a shotgun, two machine guns, and a belt of grenades. This is to make sure no one person becomes a walking weapon that handles everything before the rest of the team.
4. There are nine races to choose from, each one bringing something to the table and affecting how the world around them reacts/acts. These races include: - Humans: Versatile beings - Witches/Warlocks: Beings who had their essence 'opened' after The Rupture. - Werewolves: The result of the Lycan Virus, half man half wolf. - Amazonians: Strong, warrior women - Ghouls: Undead beings that are stronger, smarter, and smellier than zombies. - Day Breakers: Vampires that drink animal blood - Night Walkers: Vampires that drink human blood - Phoenixes: Age old beings with different powers depending on the color of their 'fire' - Djinn: Runic creating beings with a knack for tinkering
5. Other players can join midgame if they so wish, provided the current players are okay with it. Players can also recruit NPCs to their cause if they find a way.
6. Anything is possible. You think it, you can try it! Want to steal a tank from a military base? Sure...I mean, who else is going to?
7. You'll 'level up', or increase power in one way; magical ability, strength, reputation, iconic items, etc. You will progress at different points, making your character even more unique.
8. There are spells and such, those who choose to dive into them must know that some have drawbacks and you won't start off knowing how to do everything. You might have a knack for certain things while others are difficult. You'll gain the ability to do more with magic and such as you progress through the story.
9. When in doubt, ask questions. I'm pretty open and always happen to discuss. Have we reached a point you think you should be able to do something? Did I or another person handle something wrong? Did you fail but you feel you should have won? We can totally discuss and come to an agreement!
10. I have one rule: Don't be a jerk. Though we may discuss things, some things that come up might not end up going your way. Don't be sour about it, I want everyone to have a great time and it's my job to make sure that happens!
11. Expect lore, be it minute or large amounts. You won't know everything about the world so ask questions and "research" to learn how to kill a certain thing or something else you need!
So yeah, that's my idea! I know I'm new but I'd love to see my love-child story come to life in some way if people are interested. I've got the main story planned out pretty well but there are also side things you can do with different team comps or on your own if you want! Feel free to ask any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them! Also feel free to express any thoughts, ideas, concerns, or anything in between! This is still my first day on this forum so bear with me! I have no idea how to run a game in this setting exactly so any help/suggestions or words of wisdom on how they're usually run would be great!
I'm totally interested! I'll probably have an original character. Going to lurk a bit to see if this picks up traction.
I can't really think of how the two universes collide aside from one major being wanting to muck about in each universe and The Living Tribunal/The Presence thinks the only way to make things right is to have heroes (and maybe villains?) from each work together. Gathering all major artifacts, amassing an "army" to confront one of the major baddies (or both at the same time) and after they defeat one they now possess the power to wreck the other with all the major artifacts and whatever gave the now defeated bad-person the ability to cause such havok.
@Firecracker_ Alright cool! Thanks for helping me out, can't wait to get started in one then! Everyone here seems rather chill and friendly. Of all the forums I checked out, this one seemed more my speed and seemed the best :)
That seems pretty simple! From what I gather; Free is for posts about the length of my example, Casual is a paragraph to three, and Adv. is for five or more paragraphs? I looked at a couple in the free section and it seems everyone's length varies, or do I have it wrong and Free literally means "write however long you want, brah."?
I'm also concerned about the times people post. Do most games have a turn order or is it more of a free for all when it comes to posting? Or is that something that varies GM to GM?
Hello! I'm ImpLaughs (most call me Imp) and I've been looking for a play-by-post place for a while! I'm not new to role playing by any means, though. I used to run several role playing subreddits of varying genres, I've been playing table top games for about three years total, and I love writing and telling stories. This place seemed awesome and full of creative people to have fun adventures with!
Though I'm not new to role playing or play-by-post, I am new to play-by-post in a non-reddit format. I'd greatly appreciate it if someone gave me a run down of how things work around here, how to join a game, how to run a game, things to avoid, and the like. I'm also interested in how roleplaying is done in this format, on the subreddits I was a part of players did something along the lines of this:
Imp jumps onto the boat, boots covered in mud, and quickly scans the top deck. Spotting the wheel, he grinned as he quickly grabbed hold of the mechanism, getting a feel for the ship as his stomach churned. If Imp knew one thing...it wasn't how to drive a boat. "Well...never too late to learn!" He grinned to himself only to be interrupted by several bullets flying over him. Imp's knees brought him down out of instinct, fear coursing through every atom in his body. "Oh right...forgot I was being chased." With adrenaline fueling him, Imp tried to bring the boat to open sea to escape his captors, who were 'borrowing' someone else's boat to make chase.
Then whoever wanted to interact would add on to it or, in certain cases, the moderators (basically the people running the huge game) would respond. Generally people played as mainly their character but in some circumstances they had to play as not only their character but as the obstacles before them (pirates, monsters, mother nature as they try to cross a wooden bridge atop a chasm, etc.) to create drama and continue the story. Basically, I'm asking if we ever have to do this or will the person running the game always handle those situations of creating drama and "playing" as the obstacles.
I'm absolutely excited to explore this forum and get back into role playing and having good fun with everyone! :D
