Charlie Lerner

Charlie wasn't exactly a fan of celebration. So, when the Mayor's message came through the answering machine (he heard the phone ring, didn't pick up) he groaned, feeling both annoyed and pitiful at the Mayor's annual attempt to get people to actually care about the New Year. Although he would admit there was one thing that always brought a smile to his face during any one of the Mayor's picnic's, and his eyes glance over to the numerous goldfish swimming around in his fish tank in the corner of the room.

But that would have to wait for later. A New Year didn't mean much for the fishing business. The fish to be caught for the day weren't going to give him an easy time just because the calendar had struck anew. In fact his day would most likely prove to be harder, what with all the people celebrating on the beach, making fools of themselves as that's all the celebration was for; an excuse to act like an idiot.

Cylie had been out last night (probably all night) and so he wasn't going to be getting her help today. He could hear her snores from the kitchen. But he made her breakfast (something to break her hangover with as well) with eggs, bacon and salmon, and made something small for Mom, before bringing it into her room on a tray, carefully pushing the door open with his back.

The room is dark, cluttered, and stuffy. The windows have been closed for he doesn't know how long, the curtains drawn along with them, because Mom said the light "hurt her eyes". She isn't awake yet, but he places the tray on her bedside table, replacing it with the other one, the food half-eaten. And then slowly, he leaves the room, closing the door with a soft click.

Letting out a sigh, Charlie puts most thoughts out of his head and gathers his fishing equipment; his two fishing poles, one old and rusted, the other brand new, his bag of bait, his basket to put any caught fish in for the day and a small knife. Two fishing poles on his back in a bag, the bait clinging to his belt next to the basket, knife carefully placed in the waistband of his pants, he moves towards the front door, the floorboards creaking under him.

But before he leaves, he takes a long look at the house behind him; the house he's lived in all his life, a house scarred with memories and an endless amount of emotions Charlie could hardly begin to label and tag as events in his life. He took a look at the house he'd most likely die in.

A New Year, a new me, he heard people often say. What a load of crap.

He opens the door into the sun, and closes it behind him.
Friendly thought to everyone- I know that the OOC has been going very fast and active! Please don't fret- the IC will not be so overwhelming so that people don't feel too left behind. If that does occur please just PM me and ask for help/recap. I know how discouraging that can be sometimes and I want to help all that I can with whatever problem occurs.

T and I thought we would like to start this tomorrow? (Monday) is that too soon? If not Monday I had suggested Wednesday as well.

I vote for Monday! Although that's just my subjective opinion. I think it would be better to start sooner than later, so the characters added now can get a feel for the world, and when other people join they can be added seamlessly into our already breathing world.
@MissCapnCrunch

Sorry about that! So did you want me to delete the character in the bin? I posted it to the OOC for your approval!

And I walked off you. And I walked off an old me.

The Lerner family have been in charge of fishing for the Valbree village for generations. Charlie learned how to fish at a very young age, and he has many fond memories of going out in his father's boat, or standing at the end of the pier and spending hours in the sun waiting for a good catch. Life was good for a long time.

But then, at the age of 11 for Charlie, and 6 for Cylie, Charlie and his dad went on the boat deep into the waters to find better catch as the day hadn't been kind to them. His mom didn't want them to go, fearing the storm that was brewing at the horizon, bus his dad said not worry and with a confident smile they embarked further out to sea. They were able to catch a lot of fish for the day, and just as they were turning back the storm hit them, their boat battered by winds and rain, the sea threatening to take them down. Charlie's father secured a lifeboat and placed the young boy first. And just as he was about to jump in himself the boat tumbled over, the waves pushing the lifeboat, Charlie, and his father deep into the ocean. A piece of the boat, whatever that may be, collided with Charlie's right eye, and so he sank bleeding into the depths of darkness.

But somehow, in someway, he washed up on shore, and after being found by a local couple skinny dipping, he was resuscitated and taken to the doctor to get his eye looked at and stitched. He's worn a bandage ever since, and even though he hoped for a long, long time that his father was coming back, he never did.

Charlie's been in charge of the fishing for the village since. His mother stays at home, depressed, for years stuck under the covers of her bed, and so it is only Cylie who helps out here and there, but she isn't so interested in the fishing business. She wants to be a model, and leave and go off to the city when she's older. Inside, Charlie is scared and horrified. If she left, he'd be all alone, in a big village with no hopes or goals for the future.
I'm so excited about this! The character for my fisherman came bubbling up out of nowhere, and I'm so anxious to start! This is going to be a great roleplay, I can feel it :D.

I'm turning ideas in my head regarding the roles of fisherman and farmer right now at the moment, just to let everyone know! Possibly carpenter as well. So many options!
I am a massive fan of Harvest moon! So whenever you start this up let me know!
