Heyo, Emily here! Glad you stopped by. I'm an long-time roleplayer returning to this site because:

1. I am in dire need of writing and character building and
2. I am a waitress living in Canada in January so I have no hours, no money and time to spare.

This being said, I am a student. I major in English so that means lots of reading and writing - just not the super fun kind... more the existential crisis-giving kind. DX So that does take precedence in my life. Reading and writing are my passions, it brings me great joy. I am also a dancer, and while I may not take many classes myself anymore I teach at a wonderful little studio.

I live with my awesome, creative and funny boyfriend. Our favourite things to do are watch cartoons, play Dungeons and Dragons, explore the unique city we live in and snuggle on the couch with our little puppy. Speaking of, my puppy is my life and I will 100% go out of my way to bring her up always. She is just too cute not to. We also have two cats and a fish tank!

Well, that is me! I don't want to get too bogged down with Role Plays at the moment because I need to focus on school. But if you present me with something really good I won't turn you down. I am into character driven stories with lots of dynamics. Horror, Fantasy, Sci-fi, and Adventure are the categories I am most interested in. Otherwise, please pop me a quick chat! I love to chat and meet new people, so feel free ~

Shan hugs herself closer as her companion compares the darkness to the cloak of the mythical beast Halia. She shivers, mostly out of fear than cold. "And the storm? Do you think that it could be..." She trails off slightly. "Do you think it could be them." She watches as the man throws the skewering stick into the dying fire, causing it to spring brightly back to life and illuminate the cave with a mixture of dim light and shadows against the walls. Shan didn't want to appear too weak, she couldn't always rely on the man to be there when she was frightened by the weather or the darkness. She needed to remember that just because something was unknown didn't mean it was always terrifying. Some things were exciting and interesting. She remembered fondly when they had discovered the horses, a sunny and wonderful afternoon. She had thought that the majestic creatures were magically.

"Listen, Shan, I'm sure we'll be able to return one day. They can't hunt us forever. One day we won't have to run anymore."

She stared into his eyes, a determination lay inside his irises that caused a swelling of hope inside of her. Shan smiled kindly. "I know, Ailbe. And when that day comes we will celebrate. It will be wonderful, food and drinks and... dancing." She laughed and scooted slightly closer to the fire. She was not as sure as Ailbe about what their future would hold. But she wasn't about to let her cynical attitude crush his spirit. "We are running very low on firewood, we won't have light for much longer. We should get ready to tuck in for the night."

Oh! I am so sorry, I did misunderstand a little bit. So is "the Void" then where our characters have come from?

I was thinking something sort of structuralist in nature, like a combination of Levi-Strauss' and Saussure's ideologies. Sort of the idea that the world exists on a thinly laid foundation of language, and that the world around us already existed as a "void" world and that it was being labelled and, in a way, "created" as we experienced and named things, even if our characters already had a predisposed idea of what was already there.
Edit: But I don't think my post reflected that very well, all I was trying to get across was that she doesn't know what is the cause of the storm (due to the fact that meteorology would not be a thing) so she is hypothesizing that the cause is a "beast".

About how much of that is right? lol. Thanks for saying something by the way! We should be on the same page. :)

Also, Shan is fine! I don't mind, did you want me to name your character? (I might just put something in my post which I am about to write and I will change it if you want!)

Effie grinned happily at her, well she wasn't sure if Nez was quite a friend yet. Perhaps the closest organism to her since the disappearance of dear Professor Oblos. It was quite amusing, now that she thought about it, that the creature she had found the most fondness to happened to be synthetic. Nevertheless, she smiled at the android's jest. It was important for Effie to remind herself that Nez was in fact an automaton, she presented herself with such humanistic behaviours. Ef turned her attention back to Kaite as the creature introduced itself, in its strange and thick accent. "Nice to meet you, Kaite." She said after Nez kindly explained the locale they currently occupied. "I also have only been here a handful of times, although I can tell you that this is probably the best spot in the city for you to have accidentally popped up in!" Effie regarded the summery outfit, and was about to ask where in all of Aieth Kaite had come from. However, much to her excitement, the waitress had returned.

"Happens I have time now, if you wish miss."

Effie refrained from clapped in excitement. "Goodie! It is convenient that you come now, Nez if you don't mind I would love to hear from you as well.". Effie gathered up some notes and quickly removed a few of the chunky books from the table and into her knapsack, which she knew without a doubt would fit all of her readings as well as her personal belongings - such as clothes and toiletries. It had been a gift from Oblos on her 12th birthday, where he had acquired it he would never say. Effie picked up her quill that seemed to come alive in her hand, twitching and whirring back to life. The small thing was ready to do its masters bidding. "Alright, lets get started. A few simple questions. Before we start just know that if I ever get at all too personal you are free to pass or remain silent. So, tell me, how have you come to know most of the knowledge you have. Are you, perhaps, programmed to know these things or have you learnt them throughout your lifetimes. Is it a combination of the two? If it is the latter option, though, do you need constant programming to retain information gained?" She said it all breathlessly, grinning at the end and looking at her subjects expectantly.

The woman sat next to the fire. Her legs were tucked beneath her body as she leaned forward to churn the fish that roasted on a stick. Despite the chill of the wind blowing in from the storm the cave was pleasantly warm and comfortable. The fire snapped at crackled and this little corner of this place felt like... home. The word seemed to float through her mind as she churned the blackening fish once more. Outside the noise of the rain pounded loudly and thunderous roars followed the crack of light through the sky. The woman shook with every whipping sound that vibrated the ground. She stared into the flames of the fire, favoring the known danger over the unknown. The man spoke then, startling her away from the captivating flames. "Almost read, come sit down with me. It is warmer over here." She patted the stone next to her.

It was strange, this place. She wasn't sure how long she had been there. Maybe it had been forever, maybe only a split second, but this place - not the cave but the place itself, felt strange. Familiar yet foreign, safe yet terrifying. This place was both a friend to the people and their most dire enemy. The woman pulled the fish from away from the fire and passed the skewering stick to the man. Her eyes lingered on the darkness outside. "What do you think is making this?" She murmured, a hint of the fear she felt quivering in her voice. "Some kind of.. a.. a.." She struggled to come up with the word, it toyed on the tip of her tongue as she stared into the deepening dark at the mouth of their cave. "Some kind of... beast."

Beaming, Effie couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as the android accepted her request. Now this, this was the sort of information she wanted to digest. Not the old, sermonized literature her predecessor had been teaching her. She flipped a page in her notebook and immediately started scribbling a few things down. "Awesome. Looking forward to it!". Effie was giddy with excitement as her brain worked through a few simple theories she could explore. It was nice to finally have another real subject she could examine. Suddenly a small, chirping voice cut through their conversation. A creature Effie had never seen before was holding out a handful of coins to the waitress. It was small and animalistic, yet strangely humanoid.

The whirring and clicking that could often be heard silently around Effie intensified as she searched her database for some indication of what the creature could be. Bunny x Human. Humanoid Animals. Animal/Human Splicing. She couldn't come up with anything other than a few superficial articles about genetically spliced animals using trace sources of human dna and one article that cried about conspiracies to create animal/human hybrids for military purposes. She read one paragraph of that article before dismissing it as complete insanity. By the time she had finished her frantic, internal search the waitress has left to attend to another customer leaving Effie alone with the creature. "Hello. My name is Effie. Would you care to sit down?" Part of her request was mannerly however most was due to her intense need to know more.

At the same time she was gesturing to the creature, another humanoid caught her attention. "Nez!" She exclaimed happily as the familiar face seated herself across from her. "I didn't know you were here.". Effie chuckled a bit, habitually tucking her hair behind her ear as Nez pointed out the conversation she had just had with the waitress. "You saw that huh? That's embarrassing I hope too many people didn't notice.". She looked around but it seemed like the rest of the bar was not as observant as Nez. "Well, the waitress is an android too! I mean, you probably noticed, but she agreed to have an interview later for my essays. I would like to learn more about how AI works. And how we can use the physicality of androids to aid humanity well sort of like me." Often Effie rambled when she was discussing her work, especially when it made her as excited as this. Her skin was covered in goosebumps and her heart hammered a little faster as she thought. "Sorry, I'm rambling. I met this, uh, person just a few minutes ago. Sorry," she addressed the humanoid again, "What is your name?"
@Lyla

Effie sneered in the direction of yet another obnoxious patron who yelled drunkenly at the serving staff. She couldn't quite grasp the nerve of some people. She tucked a piece of her stark hair behind her ear and averted her attention back to the waitress who had acknowledged her with a polite finger. Effie nodded towards her to show she understood and turned back to her notes, using the time to scan over the translations with dim interest. She wanted to study something exciting, not this archaic prose with it's staunch opinions and questionable theories. She became so immersed in thought that she didn't realize the waitress was standing over her table, balancing a fruity cocktail on her tray. Effie smirked, almost embarrassed, as the android set the drink down on her table. "That obvious huh?". She felt the tips of her ears turn pink, it must be pretty pathetic. She'd been sitting alone with her books for hours.

"May I be of further service, miss?" Up close Effie was blown away by the accuracy gone into the androids design, really if the men hadn't of pointed it out Effie wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.

"Your design, it's just brilliant. I-" She paused with a look of absolute horror, or close to as she realized just how unmannerly her comment was. "Oh! I am so sorry. That was really rude of me. You probably don't want anyone commenting on that. I'm no better than that thug from earlier." She felt the pink starting to light up her cheeks, it was really involuntary with her pale complexion, but Effie couldn't help her innate curiosity. The drive to learn was literally built into her. "Forgive me. And I am fine for now, thank-you." She went to turn back to her books as another patron beckoned towards the waitress. However, Effie couldn't quite hold her tongue, she just needed to know more. She quickly turned back to the waitress. "Listen, I know you have some work to do but I would love to pick your uh, brain, so to say." She smiled sheepishly, "I would like to start writing a series of theoretical essays on the use of technology in the human body and well..." Effie trailed off and fiddled idly with the straw in her drink. "Just when you have some time, I think it would benefit my research to get a better understanding of artificial life, uh so to speak."
It's more the whole idea of a subconscious universe that really reminded me of it! It is such an under appreciated idea, by that I mean just something not many people have explored, and it is SO cool. I'm excited to see how it transitions into the story.
Also Black Mirror <3 I haven't seen the new season yet (Netflix uploaded Bob's Burgers and my boyfriend and I have been bingeing that for the past few weeks) but I heard it is great.

Edit:
I hit send and realized I had more to say aha
@Camey@leotamer I really dig the idea of using discord. But I think that it should be an all in or all out idea. Just so people who might feel more uncomfortable online don't feel left out of the conversations. :)
