I disagree. Your personal preference for one writer over another, does not change the fact that both may be good at what they do. Skill is not subjective.

Perhaps the answer is some conglomeration: A good writer is someone who can artfully combine proficient use of the English language with ideas that make the reader think or feel.

Bio

I think I was probably a cat in another lifetime. I don't like noise, I don't like bright lights, and I don't even particularly like people, though there are one or two exceptions to that last one. What I do like are warm places, good books, hot drinks, and pleasant conundrums, you know the sort that might occupy a longish drive with interesting thinking. Antepenultimately, I enjoy words of a sesquipedalian nature, though only as a veridical aesthete; I don’t think these words have much of a place in the writing I’ll be doing on this forum. They mess with the flow of the prose if you catch my meaning. Supereminently, I’ll write with anyone that has a strong voice and a good grasp of the English language, and while I won't promise not to bite, I will swear I've had all my shots, so pm me if you've got any clever ideas or inchoate notions.

Basic Information

Name:
Elizabeth (Liv) Themis

Age:
22

Nationality:
American

Ethnicity:
Caucasian

Sex:
Female

Height:
5’5

Weight:
116 lbs

Eye Color:
Green

Hair Color:
Black

Physical Disabilities:
  • Missing left arm to the shoulder socket

Physical Identifiers
  • Left arm is bionic
  • Right arm, neck, and shoulder tattooed in a repeating design
  • Has a disconcerting habit of mumbling to herself

Appearance:
Liv is a small woman with a runner’s frame: lithe and with little muscle. Her most prominent characteristic for most is her left arm which is completely cybernetic to the shoulder. This high-functioning model can implement a few useful tools, but needs constant maintenance. Liv is almost always found in sleeveless clothing because of the difficulty in getting her metal arm into sleeves and because of the nature of her work as a mechanic. This choice in clothing also shows off the sleeve of tribal tattoos on her right arm that curl up her neck and right shoulder blade. The grease monkey is hardly ever found in a state of real cleanliness, and her hands and fingernails are permanently stained with the fluids from the machines she spends most of her time working on. Liv’s thick black hair is usually found pulled up and out of her way, though loose strands often find their way free just to annoy her. Perhaps the most unsettling part of Liv’s appearance, however, is her tendency to constantly talk or sing to herself in nonsensical rhymes.

Extended Information

Residence:
Her Garage

Profession:
Mechanic

Aligned Faction:
Blank for now

Relatives:
  • Mark Themis (Missing)
  • Robin Themis (Deceased)

Personnel Data

Weapons:
  • A pair of scavenged 9mm pistols, with a few custom upgrades
  • a wicked knife she cut out of old car parts

Equipment
  • Mechanic’s tool set (including a few specialty attachments for her arm)

Miscellaneous
  • A dented, oval locket on a long chain she wears tucked beneath her clothing

Trade Skills:
  • Mechanic
If it has moving parts, Liv can probably fix it. She has the most experience with vehicles, however she has been experimenting with upgrading tools and weaponry as well. She’s worked on everything from solar power to robots, just don’t ask her to work on your home A.I. unless you want it cussing like a sailor every time you give it a task.
  • Cybernetic Maitenance
When it became a necessity to receive her arm, Liv set out to make herself an expert in the maintenance of cybernetic limbs. Today she’s the Refuge’s officially unofficial expert on cybernetic maintenance, upkeep, and upgrades.

Talents & Hobbies:
  • Singer
Liv has a beautiful, full voice, but she hardly ever sings where you’d hear her.
  • Gunslinger
Liv is a more than fair shot with her two pistols.
  • Runner
When not in her garage, Liv is often seen pelting the circumference of the Refuge. If you bug her about it, she may admit that it quiets the voices.

Limitations:
  • P.T.S.D Induced Mental Instability

If you were wondering about the reason for Liv’s shifty eyes and uncanny muttering when you met her, here’s the reason. She was never quite the same after seeing her little sister torn apart by ghouls on their way to the Refuge. Liv’s disorder may not affect her skill as a mechanic, but it makes her unpredictable at best. Some days are almost normal, where she spends the majority of others curled in a ball, reliving the horrors she experienced before Refuge. In combat, Liv is even less predictable: sometimes she fights with skill, sometimes she’s paralyzed with fear, and other times she flies into a berserker rage and won’t follow orders.
  • Size Matters

Perhaps partly due to her mental instability, Liv is thin and not very strong. When faced with any obstacle that requires brute strength to cross, she will lose. Her cybernetic arm is no real help in this situation either, because while it does have the ability to use certain tools and attachments, it is no stronger than your average human arm, and it takes time and tools to fix regularly.

Greetings, Guildies!

I am interested in finding a partner for a literary two-step, a waltz of words, or as the kids call it these days, a 1v1. My interests are many and varied, though usually of a darker nature, and I prefer dancing with writers above the age of 18 due to the possibility of mature content. The level of writing must be, of course, advanced, so be prepared for in-depth plots and characters, longer posts, and exemplary writing. As a personal preference, I'd like any potential partners also to be able to play a number of characters, in order to increase the size and scope of our stories. I am much more comfortable playing female leads when dealing with any sort of romantic pairing and I'm not into same sex romance. I am here for the story, for a pairing of artful language and clever plot, with the pinch of newness one gets from working with another mind. If this sort of literary tête-à-tête appeals to you, then I shall eagerly await your private message.

Sincerely,
A Hapless Harpy

Take a Gander Among a Few Ideas:

A Dance of Swords: An Amazonian warrior has been taken captive by a group of Roman soldiers and is then given to a prominent general-politician as a gladiator. Will she be able to survive the ring? Will he be able to survive the dark plot being put in place by his colleagues? They might just have to work together.

Dark Dystopia: This roleplay has fewer set plot elements, so interested parties should be opinionated and prepared for some joint world building. The idea is some conglomeration of ideas like The Giver, The Hunger Games, Brave New World, and Divergent, but for grownups.

Pirates' Prize: Just imagine wind in your hair, sea spray on your lips and any number of morally ambiguous questions weighing heavily (or not so heavily) on your salt-encrusted shoulders. I'd like something exciting for this one: a race for power and treasure, opposing parties on every side, and a pleasantly convoluted plot line.

I'm also interested in hearing any ideas from the science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, modern crime, and dystopian genres.

If you are interested:

1. PM ME.Please do not post here.

2. Let me know which of my ideas you are interested in

-OR-

3. Give me a description of your ideas, as brief or detailed as you please.

4. Send me a writing sample from any roleplay you've done, so long as it is not your character's first post.
I based my character off St. Alia of the Knife, a character from Frank Herbert's Dune. It kind of wouldn't make sense if Alia of the Knife didn't use knives... :/
I have one question: do only beasts have alignments? There's a place for it in the sheet and I wasn't sure if I needed to put something there for my human char or not.
So did I! I want this to be its own thing, completely separate from that universe though.

Innis, your picture works strangely well for something I have planned.

Always glad to be of service ;)
I am definitely interested!

Before you lies the circus.

It is still, the heavy canvas of its striped candy walls does not move at the force of wind blowing around you, pushing at you persistently from behind. The towering oaks to your either side bend their great backs to its power as if they pay homage to the sprawling mass of gaudy lights and garish fabric before them. Perhaps they know what you do not, oh naive child, that tonight as you feed your incessant drive for easily attained entertainment, you will graze the truly awe-inspiring. You will come so close to real magic that it will taint you, but in your simple ignorance, you will leave without actually discovering the dark mysteries within. One could even say that particular privilege of understanding belongs solely to the Ringmaster and his performers, and it holds them more securely than any prison.

But you knew that already, didn't you?

As easy as it may be to imagine the delight of those looking from the outside in, you won't forget the truth, you poor, trapped creature. The intoxicating magic of these stripped walls binds you more closely than chains ever could.

So what I'm proposing is something like the Night Circus, if it was directed by the Phantom of the Opera and in a world where magic was not subtle and all imaginable supernatural creatures existed hidden among us. The characters would all be performers, while the mysterious Ringleader directs the running of his circus from afar, through occasional letters. I am open to someone creating a Ringleader character to work with me in the direction of the story.
