Eh, I got a friend back in my senior high school years. Before I met her (she was in a different class) nearly all my friends who have met her said that she and I could be identical twins! That got me VERY curious, and it seemed she also got curious (all her friends made the same comment to her about me).
Finally, one day at lunch break, our friends got us to meet each other. And when we saw each other for the first time, she and I had the same reaction.
We were like: "What the heck???" -____-;; "Just how/from which side does she look like me?"
I mean, they all been saying that we look exactly the same. Well:
1. First of all, she had darker skin than mine
2. I have round-ish face, while hers was more ellips like.
3. I was taller and, to be frank, fatter than her.
In short she and I had the same opinion that we looked NOTHING alike. Although our friends were adamant that we look identical.
..... I think our friends trolled us good back then.
Finally, one day at lunch break, our friends got us to meet each other. And when we saw each other for the first time, she and I had the same reaction.

Ah, I apologize. I missed the part where you wrote 'Thousands of years went by'. xP My bad!
What will the major factions be? I'm guessing they would be:
- Human
- Bad guys Animals (What drove them to be the 'bad guys' though? Is it in the believe that they all would be better off without humans or because they wanted to rule over all?)
- Neutral Animals (I'm guessing that they would be mostly defending themselves instead of outright aggressiveness?)
- Hermit/Lone soul Animals (I'm thinking these would be the ones with the principal: 'Leave me alone and I'll leave you alone.' )

I see, so there would be like small settlements where the 'houses' are not too sturdy in case the inhabitants need to evacuate quickly, and there are places that's basically animal 'towns and cities' that will have sturdier buildings and defensive structures?
The idea of hybrid creature is actually pretty good. In that case, how many years from the mutation will this RP take place on? Like only a few decades from the radiation (or from the moment the animals starting to band together) or will it be like say 100 years after the 'Incident' where things within and between factions are more settled (everyone knows where the others stood)?

I gotta say, this is an interesting idea. I don't know if I can join myself, since I have a hectic schedule and can't really post regularly. 
In any case, am I right in summarizing that basically the animals mutated to humanoid creatures and after a period of time they banded together to avoid from being eradicated by human?
I'm curious, what would the animal kingdom settlements be like? In the wilds like cavern, on trees, underground and such, or would they build houses like humans do?
You mentioned about cats, dogs and insects, how about the avian? Maybe some of them mutated to harpy like creatures or like human with wings (I'm thinking like Hawkgirl from the comic) ?

"I don't see why, really. Those people are idiots." Alex grumbled upon listening to Charlotte saying not many people would stand up for her. As the nurse started to check on the girl, Alex walked out of the room, telling the nurse that she'll be back soon.
