"We do have to get to Wyndon after we win a badge from Raihan," Shiranui agreed, "And Liam wants to visit the Crown Tundra."
"The Dragon-type gym at Hammerlocke," Shiranui added, "Raihan is our final obstacle before we can take on the Galar League.
"Holy Miltank!" Shiranui exclaimed, "Piers went harder at you than he did with me."
Shiranui went next to face Piers. With a sigh Piers begins, "…So you're finally here, huh? See, I'm…I'm really not a great Gym Leader. Figured that's why nobody was comin' to challenge me. I have good ears, so I overheard the whole thing about the city bein' shut up. When I was alone, it was like my soul was weepin'. This is a simple Gym Stadium. We can't even Dynamax our Pokémon, but well… I still hope you enjoy the battle.

"Now then… I'm the Gym Leader of Spikemuth, Piers, the Dark-type user! You wanna challenge me, even though you know you'll lose? Then this song's for you, foolish Trainer! Get ready for a mosh pit with me and my party! Spikemuth, it's time to rock!" Shiranui was unmoved at Piers' trash talking and formulated a strategy during his monologue.

"This battle will be a four-on-four single battle with no time limit!" a Team Yell grunt announced with a voice that lived up to the Team's name, "Only the challenger can switch Pokémon! Begin!"
Piers opened with his Scrafty and Shiranui responded with Ashika—his Primarina. "Everyone, cheer on my Pokémon! Let's do it, Scrafty! Intimidate the opponent!" Ashika may have felt Scrafty's Intimidate ability, but she knew that it would be for naught. "Scrafty, Fake Out!"
"Ashika, Protect!" As Scrafty was about to slap Ashika with both hands, the Primarina conjured her protection shield and repelled Scrafty's attack.
"Scrafty, give that Primarina some Payback!"
"Ashika, sing Scrafty a Moonblast in soprano!" Using her vocal talent, Ashika fired a Moonblast at Scrafty with a pitch and volume that could shatter wine glasses. Despite his species being tanky, Scrafty couldn't take the exploitation of a double weakness and was knocked out.
"Scrafty is unable to battle! The winner is Primarina!" the Team Yell Grunt arbitrated.

Piers switched out his fallen Scrafty and sent out his Malamar. "Malamar's gonna mess you all up with its Contrary Ability!" he taunted.
"Contrary, eh?" Shiranui comments to himself, "Ashika, return; Mukade, front and centre!" He switches his Primarina out and sends out his Scolipede.
"Begin!" the Team Yell grunt called.
"Malamar, Psycho Cut!"
"Mukade, Megahorn!" Shiranui's Scolipede put her high speed to work and charged at Malamar. As Malamar was winding up to slash at Mukade with a psychic blade, he underestimated Mukade's charging speed and took a big hit from both the Scolipede's horns. As with Scrafty, Malamar couldn't survive the hit and was knocked out.
"Malamar is unable to battle! The winner is Scolipede!" the Team Yell grunt arbitrated.

Piers switched out his Malamar and sent out his Skuntank. Shiranui scanned the mephitid with the Pokédex app. "Skuntank, the Skunk Pokémon. A Poison and Dark type and the evolved form of Stunky. It sprays a vile-smelling fluid from the tip of its tail to attack. It can fire this spray more than 50 metres."
"Mukade, return; Mogura, I choose you!" Shiranui switched out his Scolipede for his Excadrill.
"Begin!" the Team Yell grunt called.
"Everyone's gonna stink, but who cares! Go, Skuntank! Use your Sucker Punch and Toxic!" Piers jeered while making his calls.
"Pop quiz, hotshot!" Shiranui rebutted, "How would Toxic affect a Steel type without the Corrosion ability? Mogura, use Hone Claws and follow with Earthquake!" Skuntank's Sucker Punch failed to work while Mogura's claws increased in sharpness and the answer to Shiranui's question presented itself when Skuntank's noxious spray was ineffective on the Excadrill. Mogura jumped into the air, brought her claws together to form a drill and drilled into the battlefield, starting an earthquake. With the Attack boost, Mogura's Earthquake did enough damage to knock Skuntank out in one hit.
"Skuntank is unable to battle! The winner is Excadrill!" the Team Yell grunt arbitrated.

"I don't do encores, get it? Not songs… Not moves… Not Pokémon!" Piers stated, switching out his Skuntank for his Obstagoon. Shiranui switched out his Excadrill and brought Ashika back out. "Time to meet another member of my crew! Face the proud, high roar of my Obstagoon!"
"Ashika, give Simmons a bar of your Hyper Voice in fortissimo!" Shiranui called, name dropping the lead singer that Obstagoon resembled. Both Ashika and Obstagoon let off loud shouts and Obstagoon's shout cancelled out Ashika's shout through his signature move, Obstruct.
"Here's a number I had saved just for this! You lot in the stands better cheer me on!" Piers announced, resulting in around half of the crowd cheering, "Use Throat Chop!"
"Ashika, Moonblast!" Obstagoon charged at Ashika and gave the Primarina a swift chop to her throat, rendering her mute for a while. Ashika in retaliation blasted Obstagoon with a beam of moonlight at point blank range, resulting in a critical hit and because of it, Obstagoon was defeated with one hit.
"Obstagoon is unable to battle!" the Team Yell grunt arbitrated, "The winner of the match is Shiranui!"

"I'm glad we were able to battle," Piers congratulated, "Seems like my Pokémon feel the same way."
"That's what makes you a great gym leader, even if you think otherwise," Shiranui replied, receiving his Dark Badge, "Much like the trainers who challenge you for a badge, it's the bond with your Pokémon that makes you strong enough to be the penultimate gym leader in the Challenge."
Shiranui looked over to Liam and Jen, seeing if any of them would volunteer.
"A minor inconvenience at worst," Shiranui answered, thinking to himself that Team Yell were small fry by comparison to the likes of Teams Rocket, Flare, Aqua and Magma, "I can appreciate their desire to be Marnie's cheering section, but I don't appreciate them paving an easy path for Marnie to win. A win without honour is not a true win; and the road to ruin is paved with good intentions."
"From what I researched, we're facing Piers at the local gym and what makes his gym unique is the fact that his is the only League-sanctioned Pokémon gym that specialises in Dark-type Pokémon thus far," Shiranui stated, "Being the penultimate gym in the Challenge, he'll be using dual-type Pokémon."
Shiranui wondered about that as well.
"Now that's a Stare that would make even Saisei back down," Shiranui commented. He addressed Marnie, "We three have come here to challenge the local gym for a badge.
Shiranui nodded and ran inside, motioning for Jen to follow.
