The Herenthor, Population:148
Trefsth
“Nope, you tie the leash this way,” explained Hmph to a young Herenthor, who just couldn’t seem to keep control of his Ferf. He chuckled to himself, this boy was just like him when he was his age. “Now, Frimp take the the” Hmph stopped short, he heard grunting outside. “That’s odd,” he thought, but then he continued, taking the leather thong and wrapping it around the animal slowly, to show the child. He stopped again, “Can you hear that?” he asked the boy. He was inside what the Herenthor called of Hroff, a place of worship. He couldn’t think of anything that would make sense to be so near that would make that noise, only a…
“A wild ferp has been let in the door!”m a voiced screamed.
Suddenly screaming and shouting filled the room as what looked like a giant armadillo bug with bull horns crashed through the room. Hmph watched in horror as it impaled and trample people who couldn’t get away fast enough. If it wasn’t for the fear that had frozen him, he may have noticed the loud crack that preceded roof of the Hroff collapsing.
“Amazing!” Tref exclaimed with joy as he watched three woman make bowls out of mud. One of them showed him a finished project, that could actually hold water!
Not to be outdone, one husband showed Tref his progress with metal. He was able to mix two rocks to make a plate that was stronger than a plate of either material alone. “I call it Frith,” he said, tapping the bronze plate. “It's still a work in progress, I can’t make it strong enough to carry wait or have a practical purpose, yet.”
“I can’t believe my ears!” he shouted, his happiness bubbling over. Suddenly, Tref’s assistant tapped him on the shoulder.
Panting, he relayed his message, “Disaster at the Hroff… the roof collapsed” he spewed out, then he began again once he had caught his breath, “Many of them have terrible wounds and they need help.”
“Go find the healer Maefry, and take her to the victims” Tref replied, horrified, his mind reeling into action.
It felt like a dream to Tref as he surveyed the destruction. There were some Herenthor frantically digging through the rubble, searching for loved ones. Others were a bloody mess. Tref could barely hold it together as he saw a mother crying over her dead child. He sat down for a second to take it all in. then he noticed something, a large grey form was sticking out of the rubble. He thought for a second before realizing it was a huge male phamp. His vision was a blur as he ran over to. and then across, the wreckage.
“Something isn’t right here,” Tref breathed as he searched the area. The nearest herd of phamp should have been ten miles from here. What was a large male doing so inside Trefsth. As he paced around the rubble, he noticed something. There were strange gashes in the the mud roof. After a quick impulse, he brought his claws down on a stone, leaving a similar mark. It all came became clear then, the Hroff had been sabotaged. The animal must have been forced into the building while the attackers dismantled the roof. It was when he realized this that Trefth let the first tear go.
