Name: John Sarriah Age: 22 Gender: Female Appearance: Often confused as a younger boy [she is very aware of this, and realizes the name does *not* help]; petite, short, professional and clean with a hint of flair; dark-skinned \\
A woman with boyish features that frequently finds herself eye-level with sterna or navels, John keeps herself well-kept and presentable at all times. Her black hair is trimmed close to the sides of her head and combed straight back along the top with stylish precision, leaving her round face and bright jade eyes open to everyone around her. Tucked behind her ears are shock-white streaks that, to her dismay, rarely if ever lead people to believe she's any older. John wears well-tailored three-piece suits, often in dark grays and blues with muted green or bright silver accents. She only wears trousers, and always uses the same belt designed around her Relic. She excludes the tie when possible to leave the two highest shirt buttons undone, only wearing a tie to truly formal occasions or meetings with people she deems especially important. While the shirts and waistcoats are taken in to compliment her slim figure, her jackets often obscure what few feminine curves she happens to have. All of her outfits are intentionally designed to be painfully asymmetrical; one-sleeve blouses and jackets, vertical pinstripes on one side with horizontal on the opposite, or trousers with extra pockets sewn into one leg.
Hometown: Lifan, raised near a cemetery Personality: Solitary, quiet, studious, somewhat naive but business savvy, vegetarian, views Natrelmon as equal to humans, generally prefers to work at night Relic: John carries a large wood-bound tome, closed tightly and hung from her hip with silver chains strung through the spine. When she captures a Natrelmon, she details what she observes about them in the book to deepen her understanding. This information is diligently studied and updated each day before she sleeps.
John was born in Lifan to a lawyer and an enlisted mage who had decided on their child's name long before she was conceived and had no intention of changing their decision for something as trivial as the child's sex. They were just as unbending with almost every decision in their lives, regardless of how significant or minimal the consequences might be, and they elected to raise her with the same mentality. Although her mother was home more frequently than her father, growing up John ultimately spent more time in the family library than she ever did with either of her parents. Early on, she believed that she would spend her youth studying and ultimately graduate to become a lawyer; she was enrolled in a private preparatory school that focused primarily on the concepts important to future businessmen and law students. With her natural propensity for study and occasional assistance from her parents, John excelled academically and began to progress rapidly through school. When she was first introduced to actually performing magic herself, however, she became completely fixated on it. She began staying up late into the night so she could study anything magical she managed get her hands on, going into the city to find more books and scrolls to add to the library, and even borrowing her mother's personal notes and journals. She had decided that she would join the Mages' Guild. It was around the time that John was ten years old that the East-West War began, and soldiers were called to push the border. Her mother was among the first, stationed as a bodyguard for a minor noble in a particularly active area; she was killed during one of the fights that broke out, though it wasn't clear who struck her or which side they were fighting for. John and her father were both devastated, and they began to drift apart from one another as they dealt with their grief in parallel isolation. John began spending more and more time in the graveyard near their house where her mother was buried. John has spent the past few years with the Mages' Guild, doing research and learning the foundations of magic in the hopes of one day becoming a powerful mage. Her interests have been widely varied, including days-long delves into old research from mages who have long since been cast as examples of what *not* to do. Recently, she was offered her first opportunity to begin learning more advanced techniques, with a small grant to start her own research. However, the offer is dependent on her Rites, which she has yet to begin.
Noteworthy Skills: Defiantly dedicated and a quick study, fluent in legalese \\ When she was young she read a book that described humans with the ability to project their soul outside of their physical body, and decided to spend six months meditating until she had taught herself to do it using handwritten notes in the margins as her guide.
