Despite John's regeneration, it appears that violent disembowelment is too severe an injury for him to recover from. If Grant and Darius had put him into one of the healing pods, perhaps he could have recovered, but they did not. As the two talk, John's heart finally stops due to the severe loss of blood.

However, this is not the end for John.

Just like the goddess had promised, it takes but a moment for John to reappear inside one of the healing pods, in a flash of purple light. Or, rather... It looks like a copy of John, while the original's corpse still lies on the ground as its blood continues to soak into the soil. The new John's clothes are even torn at the same places as the old one's, and stained with blood as well. Those who possess better sixth senses can feel that a vital energy of sorts is now absent from the previous John's body, and present in this new body instead. Perhaps this is the "reawakening" that the goddess spoke of, being transferred to a new body constructed by the healing pod.

John begins to return to consciousness. The memories of being gutted are still fresh in his mind, and a terrible exhaustion now suffuses every fiber of his being, even as the healing pod continues to restore his energy at this very moment. At this rate, it would take at least an hour for him to fully recover, if not more.

[Since @Grimoire hasn't even made his first post yet, here's what I'm going to do. You three, assume that only your characters are currently in the group right now, and Grimoire's character hasn't arrived yet. If he makes a post before you get too far from the shrine, he'll arrive then. Otherwise, he'll never arrive, and it'll be just you three in your group for now. If he makes a post later, he'll either arrive at the next shrine any of the groups discovers, or be in a group of his own.]

As Alison, Libé, and Rina take their first steps outside the shrine, they soon feel the gentle, cool breeze brushing against their skins. They're at the very edge of a forest, beyond which the wind comes from, and sweeps over the expanses of grassland. At the first glance, the trees here look relatively normal, without any glowing fruits or crystalline barks or any other gratuitously outlandish features. However, the leaves all seem to have a bluish hue, ranging from faint to vivid, laid over the usual green, and a lot of the leaves are strangely shaped, almost resembling clouds and wisps of wind. Some of them even seem to rustle when there's no actual wind.

The grassland gives a rather refreshing visage, with streams of sunlight passing through white clouds from the purple sky, bathing the grass in its gentle brilliance. The cool wind continues to blow there, and large irregular patches of the grass also have faint blue hues, similar to those of the trees. Occasionally, clumps of shrubbery, flowers, and some lone trees can be seen, breaking up the otherwise even landscape.

...and then there is the giant spider hanging in the air.

To be fair, this particular one isn't all that scary, as far as giant spiders go. The size of an adult human, its whole body is a clean, silky white, emitting a faint white sheen. Its eight round eyes glow an ethereal blue, as do the various arcane patterns covering its body. The spider is perched on a large web that appears to be attached to thin air, each individual strand made of shimmering, wispy translucent bluish white light, the same hue as the spider's glowing eyes.

The spider gazes at the humans with curiosity. After a moment of thinking, it makes a swift leap over the humans' heads. Numerous strands of light trail behind the spider, spontaneously forming into webs as the creature passes through the air. It then makes another leap at a different angle, forming another series of webs. The spider appears to be making a web cage of some sort, perhaps to trap these new and unfamiliar creatures so the spider can study them.
Since @Minnakht's group is not leaving the shrine yet, I won't parse their actions or throw anything at them. On the other hand, @helltank's group is leaving the shrine, so I'm going to start their first encounter now.
[Sorry for the double post. I'm doing this so that the necessary notifications will be sent... Or will editing a post suffice? I'm pretty new to the forum, so I don't know the details.]

@helltank (Alison); @akje (Libé); @Grimoire (Emeka); @Eklispe (Rina)

Just as Alison is beginning to calm down, thanks to Libé, one of the pods near them suddenly lights up with a purple glow. When the glow fades, after a second or two, there is now a new person inside the pod: Rina Larock. Another few seconds later, she begins to stir to wakefulness.
@Eklispe: Your character is accepted. I'm going to put your character in the same group as @helltank, right now.
[@helltank: You need power rivaling the gods before you can damage anything in the shrine, so Alison's tentacle can't have made a scratch on the medical pod.]

@akje (Libé)

There doesn't seem to be anything resembling medical equipment anywhere in the shrine, at least not in the current room. However, there is still the big door leading outside, and the smaller door leading somewhere else.

[OOC: I'm going to quote something I said in the OOC tab.]

<Snipped quote by ravenDivinity>

Well, I think we can say that we've given @Magnato long enough to make a post, or at least tell us if s/he's busy. So now I'm going to have the plant bear knock Meredith out and take her away with it. If Magnato does come back, I'll make it so that Meredith's body is killed and eaten by the bear, and she reawakens at the shrine in a reconstructed copy of her body. If s/he doesn't come back, then I'll make it so that Meredith is never seen again; she presumably survives the bear encounter somehow, but never returns to any shrines and continues to live out the rest of her life in the Cradle like one of its native inhabitants.

[So yeah, I'm going to have to have the bear take Meredith for now. One of the two scenarios in the quote above will end up happening, depending on whether @Magnato comes back or not.]

@Magnato (Meredith)

Ultimately, the vined bear's hunger wins the mental battle against its caution and fear. With as much strength and speed as it can muster, the bear snaps out with its vines toward Meredith, the only one among the humans who hasn't displayed any kind of dangerous magical ability; the vines' movements are too fast for the eyes to see. One vine strikes Meredith on the forehead with great force, knocking her unconscious in one blow. The rest of the vines wrap around her body and pull her toward the bear with almost equal speed. With Meredith in tow, the bear turns around, and begins sprinting away as quickly as its legs can carry it.

However, Meredith can't be in any real danger, right...? After all, the goddess had said that dying will simply result in one reawakening back at the shrine...
Danger Sense- Rina has always seemed to have some sort of 7th sense for danger. Whether it be saying the wrong thing in a conversation, or walking down the wrong alley, Rina seems to be able to keep out of trouble.

Sorry, but you can't have this. Even as a magical ability, this kind of precognition is not possible, unless your power level is so high that any conflict in this game is utterly irrelevant to you. There'll be no negotiating this one.

I'm waiting for either @Magnato or @whist to post since I don't want to double-post in the first group. Magnato hasn't posted in the past 6 days, but the Guild says she/he/they was/were on yesterday. I don't know if that means they're busy or that they've quit on us. whist said he has a post for Grant ready, but that he didn't want to cut off Magnato. So there's that. Really it's hinging on either of those two to get that train going.

Grant's sudden, but timely, teleportation saves him from being grappled and violently disemboweled by the bear, like what had happened to John. Darius, on the other hand, instinctively launches a spear of ice from his left hand. The bear is clearly not expecting the attack.

A sound, only slightly less disturbing than that of the disembowelment earlier. And a bestial scream of pain.

The razor-sharp icicle is now buried halfway inside the bear's right shoulder blade. Blood is oozing out of the wound, some of it freezing just as it leaves the bear's body. All of the bear's vines have retracted, upon their host's injury. With a low growl, the bear wills a few of its vines to wrap around the spike of ice, and pull it out with force. A jet of blood gushes forth, before the wound is once again covered by the healing balm.

The bear looks over the humans once again. In its eyes, where there were once only hunger and rage, there is now uncertainty and fear. Though its intellect is far inferior to that of a human, the beast is not suicidal. The first time it had attacked one of these prey in front of it, its paw was badly maimed by acid and infectious blood. Then the second prey struck it with a spear of ice. The third one had teleported, and now has a menacing bladed weapon in his hand. And who knows what the fourth one is capable of... The bear is no longer sure if it can win, especially on an empty stomach. There are probably other, far easier prey in these woods.

After a moment, the bear begins to back away, slowly. But its eyes remain vigilant, unsure if the humans will give chase.

@helltank (Alison); @akje (Libé); @Grimoire (Emeka)

The third group is smaller than the others, consisting of only three people. Libé has already awoken, while Emeka and Alison are just beginning to stir.

The shrine is the same as any other. The scenery seen through the window is still that of a forest, but different from the other two; there is neither mountain nor beach beyond this forest. Instead, a grassland of sorts can be seen through the trees, from which a gentle breeze blows, rustling the leaves of trees on the edge of this forest.
@Grimoire: Your character is accepted.

@akje: I was going to ask you to remove your IC post, since Grimoire's character hadn't been accepted yet when you posted it. But that won't be strictly necessary anymore, since he just got accepted. However, you still need to edit your post and get rid of that statue part, at least for now. There are no earthen materials in the shrine; the floor is made entirely of metal. Also, everything in the shrine is enchanted with magic many orders of magnitude more powerful than you, so you can't manipulate it.

Also, please don't make another post until I make the intro post for your group. It'll determine what location you start at.

EDIT: Oh, and @helltank's character has been accepted too. I forgot to mention this.
Any in-universe reason for a group of only 3 people?

No. In-universe, people are paired up more or less randomly, in groups of 3 to 6.
Will the groups ever meet?

Yes, they will meet sooner or later. Exactly when, I don't know; that'll be up to the plot that hasn't been fully decided.
