I've got this obsession of having all the statuses on my profile page with more than 2 likes. I know that when the wailing winds of darkness come for me, these thumbs up will keep them away!
There's two more things I'm also looking forward to, along the lines of what made Hades angry.
Ordinarily Hades was a more serious and less petulant god than the others, but there were two things that would cause him to fly into a rage and punish a mortal for all eternity far beyond the normal levels. One was attempting to escape the Underworld/betraying him (#Sisyphus).
The other was threatening Persephone. Pirithous was bound in a stone for all eternity for an attempt to steal her away. Whether or not a romance develops between them I'm leaving up to the game, but his interest in her safety will still manifest.
im looking forward to Poseidon making earthquakes at some point in the RP, and Hades and Persophone and all the other underworld god/desses getting agitated but not really knowing why hahaha
I always liked that that was one of the main disputes between Hades and Poseidon, Hades was afraid that Poseidon would eventually cave the ceiling of the underworld hahaha
Yep, mentioned that in my bio! As time goes on Hal will become more serious about his duties, but right now he's still more of a person than a god of the dead. That mortal and godly conflict is something that really attracted me to this RPG, particularly the idea of a social, friendly Hades faced with the possibility that he might be doomed to being alone (except for maybe one person) with the dead.
God Name: Hades Mortal Name: Hal Desmond Origin/God of: Greek God of the Underworld, Death, and Wealth. Appearance:
While Hades is normally depicted with a beard, Hal's lower level of power and godhood is reflected in his more youthful appearance.
God history: The eldest male Olympian but the last vomited out by Kronos, Hades became the ruler of the realm of the dead upon his father's defeat. While the other gods took a more active role in the affairs of mortals, Hades kept to himself, mostly concerning himself with ensuring his domain functioned properly and that the dead could not escape to interfere with the living. Even during the Trojan War, his only influence was to command Poseidon to stop shaking the earth for fear it would collapse the Underworld. At some point in his history, plagued by loneliness, Hades kidnapped the goddess Persephone in an attempt to convince her to become his wife. Her reaction depends on the legend, but her eating of pomegranate scenes while in his domain meant she had to stay there for three months of the year, giving rise to the seasons.
Personality: Actually a very warm and friendly person, Hades does not seem like the dour, solemn god one would expect him to be. His smile is nearly always present, his demeanor normally one of optimism. Hal Desmond is an extrovert, and just simply enjoys being around people. His developing powers, however, scare him--Hades was always isolated from the other Greek gods, and he's afraid that as becomes more like his original self he'll once more be condemned to the Underworld. The name of Hades was seldom used in ancient Greece due to the fear associated with it, and Hal seems to abhor it just as much as his subjects once did: he prefers his human name, and would prefer that most people refer to his godly predecessor as "The Silent One" or "The Hospitable One", both euphemisms from ancient Greece.
Weapon(s) (and equipment) : -An ebony two pronged spear, serving both as a symbol of his power and as a weapon. -The Helm of Darkness. Formerly an ancient Greek helmet, it now appears to be nothing more than a midnight black scarf. When wrapped around his neck three times--no more, no less--it causes him to become nearly invisible. As his power grows, its ability to cause complete undetectability, intangibility, and to radiate fear might be restored.
Relationships/friendships: I'll fill this in as time goes on. Persephone might be an interesting thing to establish...
Other: Hal is weak, though some of his former powers still remain to him. He gets a power boost when death occurs in his presence, and can drain life energy out of plants and the like to heal himself and bring small dead creatures to life to serve him. Talking to the dead also falls under his purview, and he has a native sense for underground disturbances. As his power grows, he'll become able to use his own energy to bring larger creatures to life, and produce precious metals at will.

They always show shades in a bad light but I always see him as a balance and the only reason he is so moody is he kind of got the bad end of the stick job wise. I mean, his brother rules over the sky as well as the gods. The other rules over the oceans which makes up most of the earth and he gets to sit in never ending darkness and rules over the dead. Can't say I would be completely happy and wonderful either in those situations.
The story of Hades and Persephone has so many different versions. My favorite is actually the one where Hades kidnaps Persephone but eventually they fall in love because Persephone can see past everything to view what is really in his heart. When she is ordered to return to her mother she is torn on what to do. Hades tricked her into eating the Pomegranate seeds so she didn't have to worry about making a choice. He saved her from that and even gave her a small amount instead of forcing her to stay in the darkness with him all the time.
In one version, he even opens up the underworld so that a spring time tree may grow there to keep Persephone happy and herself.
He is not a bad guy. Not really.
And that's something I am planning on exploring, actually. Since he won't really have so many powers at the beginning, he'll have to cope with the idea that his abilities might isolate him.
RE: The Satan debate. I'm a Christian and while I don't especially find that idea offensive, others might. Not to mention, last time I played an RPG like this it was ruined by the introduction of elements like that. In his own story, Satan is insanely powerful and not well defined.
@Kaithas Well, Hades was never evil. His job as judge of the dead was just a job. In fact his only real issue was that he got lonely, hence kidnapping Persephone. In all, he was the least rapey dickhead of the Pantheon.
yeah, 'xactly. Was just referring to the propensity of adaptations to have him as a villain.
