@lavulman Here are my two cents on the character considering Allen covered most of my problems. For one, why not have her suit boost her four respectable strengths listed in her fighting style to allow her to stand up to other Nomads. While I'm not saying that without the suit she would be as useless as Lucas or Lucie without her guns, per say, probably lower those to a more reasonable amount if you want to have the suit boost her.

That or you could make the suit aesthetic and not really boost her strength. Crap, that's more than two things... er, anyways.

Thirdly, I imagine her as some sort of D.VA with the motorcycle. Like the motorcycle has its own health bar. Once it takes enough damage, maybe have it permanently taken out of the fight. Also, considering she can easily send it out of the fight for repairs, how fast or how slow does the bike get repaired?

The strength boost was less of a "oh, she's really really strong" thing and more of an explanation for her being able to use a motorcycle as a melee weapon. Really all it equates to in the end is storing electricity. I'll edit it so she's just strong on her own and EX-Seeds are all it's really used for, though.

Yeah, that's the idea. A lot of her moves put stress on the bike, and between that and the opponent she needs to have it touched up often or risk it falling apart on her. I'm kind of shit with anything resembling numbers, but I wanna say that once it's visibly damaged it would take about half a minute to get back to pristine condition and if it's on it's last legs (like after using EX-MAX) it would take around a minute to a minute and a half.

@Mr Allen JOkay, I made some edits, hopefully this fixes your issues. Here's the short version of what I changed if you don't want to look through it, but you should anyways because I'm probably too tired to remember what I wrote half an hour ago.

  • The Bolt Suit's enhancements are gone, it's just there to have little boosters and store EX-Seeds.
  • Added a little guideline at the top of her movelist for how the stance and EX-ACT requirements are laid out because I totally forgot to do that the first time.
  • Comet Catch has been replaced by the Trailblazer move Comet Crash. Jill takes some time to wind up and straight-up slings the bike as a projectile. This isn't a good thing for the bike and she won't be able to use it again for a bit.
  • Vanquish Buster is now just a close-range grab without much distance to contrast with Jetstream Slam being a mid-range grab without much damage.
  • Flaming Forever is now a drawn-out taunt done on her bike that fills all of her EX-ACT stuff. It'll only damage anything if she already has Seeds/Cells filled and even then it's not really worth the effort. If she gets hit during it she'll fall off her bike like a total goof. The bike will probably fall over too.
  • Justice Lash has been replaced by the bike move Burnout Twist. She spins into dudes and can spin into them once or twice more if she has the Cells for it.
  • If Burning Blue/Dragon Bolt Kick hits, she can rebound back onto her bike if that's where she used the move from.
  • Added the whole bike thing into the weaknesses section now that that's more apparent.
  • Added a taunt for Abel and a generic one for Flaming Forever because why not.

I guess you could say she changed gears? Let me know if there's anything else that I need to touch up.

I think the trucks stole my waifu.

How's everyone doing? I finally got my hair thinned out and it feels so nice. <3
@lavulman Okay, I really think some of the ideas behind her fighting style (such as the motorcycle, and the overall mechanics). One thing that I think will be a problem is that she has a bit too much in her kit. She has several hard hitting moves with plenty of range, grapples with the same thing, mobility (from those two attacks), moves to pull people in, nullify projectiles, has a countermove that's a cheap stun, and can create ramps/platforms.

I'd be okay with one or two of these, but she honestly seems like a boss character. She doesn't really seem to have any weaknesses, and too many strengths.

Perhaps you can change her fighting style and gimmick to depending more on her motorcycle (and not having so much strength). Remove (or change) moves like Comet Catch!, Vanquish Buster!, Flaming Forever!, and Justice Lash! She'd be more of a brute-strength rushdown character, and depriving her of her motorcycle can be a weakness. Because right now, I think she has waaay too much versatility.

Yeah, I was thinking about posting it while apps were still closed for thoughts on the moves, but I never got around to it. I was a bit concerned about the tradeoffs for the resource management and having to lug around a vehicle everywhere she goes but I'll be sure to fix it once I get the time.
@lavulman You're probably going to call me a fake-fan when I say I totally skipped the AC2 era, and went straight for AC3. lol

While I think Verdict Day was meh (but waaaaaay better than ACV), I have to agree about the final boss. lol

Nah, there's like, what, 14 of these games now? Pretty sure there's big Nintendo and Capcom series with less under their belts. Even I haven't played them all. AC2 is really good though, if you're ever able to play it. I got it a few years ago when I was hunting down the ones I missed and I really liked it; especially the story, which I think capped the PS1 games off nicely. Like, things are starting to stabilize after Hustler One stopped being around to micromanage society and the villain is this incredibly old Raven (implied to be the protagonist of Master of Arena) who's realized that the new world he's helped to create really doesn't have a place for him anymore, but he's also got this great sense of pragmatism that shows up in the missions where you go up against him. I was hoping they were doing something similar with the villain of VD alongside all the other callbacks there were but I guess they didn't go for it. Another Age was pretty forgettable and the only thing I can really remember is the bonus fights against the PS1 big bads at the end.

I mean, I totally agree. After V I was just kind of hoping to focus on what good I could find and was happy that the overall quality was at least going upwards for once. But yeah, Black Glint was so cool. It was really neat going up against what I'd taken for granted in these tiny V-era mechs. I wish they'd made a model kit out of it because I really liked the broken tubes and the alternate form and the edgy color scheme, I'd totally save up money for one.

Also, the sheet's just about finished. Hopefully I'll have time to draw her over the weekend but for now I guess I'll have to stick with a written description.

I'm gonna say that Inanna should go to Germany even if that's mostly because I'd have to contrive something to keep him from ruining the whole "no one can leave Japan" thing.

I really liked some of the older games. Ironically, the PS1 era AC games had the best atmosphere imo. Like it got across the setting is tragically beautiful. The newer games (while I do like them) are more, kind of, off the wall mecha action. Which is okay and all. But, it's sad that the weakest entries in the whole series (ACV through Verdict Day) had the best atmosphere of the newer series.

If I had to pick a few of the games I like the most, it'd have to be... Armored Core 3, Nexus, 4, and AC1.

And I really do want to get around to making that AC roleplay. I had some cool ideas in mind for it, but I think with me obsessively job hunting irl, and this RP going nowhere anytime soon (and that other semi-active RP I do), I don't have time to run three RPs at once.

Project Phantasma is the only AC game I haven't actually finished yet (disregarding Nine Breaker), so I guess I'm not too qualified to say that I didn't think the general vibe of the series was as nice and refined as the PS2 games, but I do know that Shape Memory Alloys was hands-down my favorite song to go through the menus to. I do agree that things kind of lost focus once Miyazaki started directing the games. One of the things that I really liked about the way things were presented was how distant and isolated your relationship with other characters was, given that you never see their faces or learn much about their backstories no matter how close they were to you. Everyone had been reduced to a faceless commodity with questionable humanity, and it was tough to get attached to anyone when everyone had a very business relationship with you on a need-to-know basis. AC4 and onwards tried to introduce a lot of weird friendships and love interests and occasional comedy antics, and they never really stuck with me given that they never really broke free of that isolated style of the earlier games. VD had a pretty amazing final boss, though, and the continuity merge was a great idea.

My favorite would probably be Last Raven. Call me cheesy, but seeing the sun set over my AC with the little text blurb after finally finishing that tough-as-nails final boss fight with Zinaida was one of my favorite gaming memories. I thought that and the game in general were a really nice send-off to the series up to that point, and I think the gameplay was at its most complex and fun in that game. It's a shame I was too young to go tournament-hunting when that was a thing. If I had to pick a favorite from each "era," it would probably be MoA, 2, 3, LR, 4A, and VD.

Yeah, every idea I've had for an AC RP seemed like it would take too much out of me.

Well, kind of.

Armored Core, for some reason or another inspires my writing and seeps into it whether I want it to or not.

Weird ain't it?

Yeah, I get ya. The older ones had some really nice, unique atmosphere and presentation. The same thing happens to me with it and like a bunch of other series.
"Naive as that may sound, in a way, you are fully correct," Abel answered him, releasing his grip just a little. "MAVERICK fights to preserve humanity, and it's continued existence...."

There was almost a dark chuckle as he extended his arm with the Boss in his grasp. "However, to ensure the safety of humanity as a whole... a few people have to suffer. An acceptable price compared to everyone dying."

He crossed his arms as he stared at the Boss. There was no emotion in his body language, or his tone. It was cold, flat... as if he was cold as metal. "As I said before, I only have the best interests for humanity at heart. So does MAVERICK, so does... MIRAGE."

So is this recycled concepts from Answer of Rain? Because boy am I loving this Armored Core villain.

Tangentially related; hopefully I'll finally be able to get my next sheet that I mentioned finished tonight. Drawing her might take a little while longer, though.
@wxps350@lavulman I have to disagree. You can say there's a current theme with the characters.

Well, I mean, I did say that, I just didn't really have anything to add to it.

Now, we had a discussion in the Discord, aaaaaand I gave it some thought. What if we prematurely ended the tournament? I mean, it was supposed to be a way to introduce all the characters, and show off their powers, but honestly, it went on for waaaaaaaaaay too long. Four months for one event. Honestly, I was hoping to have moved onto the next events by now, but better late than never.

I wanted to ask everyone what you wanted to do first. Because there are faaaaaaaaar too many characters not in the tournament with little to nothing to do. Remember that robot attack I mentioned? What if they went after the tournament instead?

So, give your thoughts in simple terms. Should we continue with the tournament, or just end it with a robot attack and move on?

I was going to say that I'd just leave it up to the people actually in the tournament, but I gave it some thought, and I think it might be a good idea to end it early. The RP's getting a decent amount of interest from people who can't join in yet, so I think it's best if the plot shifts gears to include them if at all possible.
As for plot, yeah, not too much has actually happened, yet. It's probably better to ask this question once some real heavy shit has already gone down. Maybe about how different people from across the world can come together in pursuit of a common interest? Kind of meta.

Then again, it's hard to even really pin down a central theme when you've got so many different people bouncing different ideas around, so I'm not too sure.

As for characters, I think Drag hit the nail on the head too hard and I don't really have much else to add. What a Drag, man! *cue laugh track*
I officially have too much time on my hands.

It's been a really fun challenge, though. Pretty nice to give this game the attention and respect it deserves after I've been playing through it for a decade and a half or so.

Now that that's over with, I might come up with another drawing at some point down the line.
