Just for those who've said they're interested if you'd be able to put a character sheet together as soon as is convenient that'd be great help (if you've already done so please bear with me). I'd like to wait until I've got at least four sheets then I'll set about moving this over and writing the intro post.

@Gunther If that's alright with you? I wanted to try throwing them in at the deep end see how they react and have them work their way up, which they'll probably do quite quickly.

It's often joked amongst Guardsmen that if you survive 30 minutes on the front line you're already a 1st class veteran.

Otto sighed as adjusted the valve coupling on the Valkyrie's third engine unit. 'Half corroded honestly William', he tutted to himself. He lent back relying on his grappling unit to hold himself in place as he examined his array of tools trying to find the wrench setting in order to remove the valve's coupling.

For a great many people Otto's position must not have seemed very pleasant, dangling as he was some 50 or so metres above the ground held aloft by only a single tether secured to one of the Valkyrie's idling engines. Otto didn't mind though, all in a day's work for him. After a few seconds he found the tool he was looking for and nimbly removed the coupling. He flipped the large piece of bronze around in his hands a few times examining it through his helmets lenses before searching for another tool on his wrist. Eventually he fond what he was looking for and cleaned the coupling as best he could before re-securing it where it had been. He wasn't happy with the repair, but what with the engines spinning up and William wanting to depart soon he didn't really have much of a choice other than to jury-rig the repair. It would hold until they reached their first destination at any rate, and once there Otto could set about doing the full repair.

Looking about him Otto noticed that the majority of the gangplanks had by that point been retracted and so he winched himself down to the ground with great care most certainly not wanting to end up in the water above which the Valkyrie was hovering. As he made contact with the ground he retracted his line the long thin wire snapping back into his gauntlet with immense speed. Otto inspected the gauntlet as he walked, wanting to make certain that it was still functioning properly. He could've sworn on the decent that the blasted thing was running slightly slower than it should've done.

Reaching the gangplank he continued all the way up still tinkering with his gauntlet trying to work out where the fault was. Eventually he found himself on the bridge and looked up half confused at how he'd quite managed to navigate his way there. He pushed the thought aside and slowly walked over to William.

'Err Captain' he began, his voice sounding rather tinny through the modulator in his helmet, 'The repairs you asked for are complete, but engine three is in need of more work when we get to our destination'. William turned eyeing Otto for a moment, 'You're sure it'll hold?' he inquired. 'Of course' replied Otto with as much confidence as he could muster, 'just don't push the old girl to far.' At that William nodded and Otto took his leave setting off down a corridor trying to find his quarters. He bustled along the corridors retracing his way to the engineering decks where William was usually kind enough to billet him out of the way of everyone else. Otto didn't know quite where the Valkyrie was going, but then again it didn't really concern him as he'd mainly be with the ship. A nice quiet trip he thought to himself.

I'm thinking perhaps he's been doing odd jobs on a regular basis for William Axford. So whilst he's not part of the Valkyrie's crew yet, he's their go to mechanic while at port.

Name: Otto Von Kruger

Appearance: Height: 5'7" Weight: 165 lbs
Otto's appearance remains a mystery to most people, as a combination of prudent caution, and lingering paranoia incline him to keep his armour on at nearly all times. However, even in full armour he is a relatively thin chap, hardly built for frontline fighting. His wiry build however does predispose him to more subtle operations and despite his armour his movements are deft and nimble.

Personality: Reclusive by nature, Otto can come across as rather eccentric. A man more used to the company of machines than he is other human beings he finds social encounters to be somewhat awkward affairs, and tends to avoid them by habit. However, there are three things that bring Otto out of his shell. Firstly his research, when knee deep in cogs, surrounded by log after log of kinetic data or pulling pipes apart Otto is virtually ecstatic even in the most dire of situations. He will happily talk anyone's ear off about even the most mundane piece of technology if given the chance. The second thing that helps him get over his pathological shyness somewhat is surgery. Whilst he might not seem like a natural doctor Otto is quite the astute surgeon. His years in the army support corps ensured that he received a detailed education in this regard. So whilst he's not exactly jubilant during surgery, and is rather businesslike by all accounts, he certainly becomes rather more assertive. The final thing that really gets Otto out of his shell is combat. The thrill of explosions, the potential to test new technology and to put his theories to the test excites him to no end. That being said he is still rather cautious, primarily because he doesn't really fancy being shot to bits.

Biography: Otto was born in Britain before the last great war. His parents had left Germany to move back to his mother's native Britan in 1895 the same year he was born. For a while the family thrived running a small technology company specialising in micro-clockwork. Otto spent most of his formative years in the shop with his father working on various pieces of technology when not at school. Otto didn't enjoy school all that much. Whilst he was certainly bright, and was often leagues ahead of his classmates they never really took to the strange foreigner with the funny name. It wasn't until he got older that he really understood why people were so suspicious of him and his family though. In 1912, at the age of 17 Otto enlisted with the British military. Partly to try and get some real adventure in his life, partly to finally prove to everyone that he was British through and through, and that he and his family were proud of their new home. At the academy he studied hard, spending nearly all his time awake either in arduous physical training or learning skills that would help his fellow soldiers in the field. After 9 months of gruelling training Otto graduated with 1st class honours and was assigned to the 2nd company of the Coldstream guards for a front line deployment. The next several years were a haze of bullets, trenches, explosions, crowded workshops and dying friends. Otto did his best in these years to learn fast, not that he had much choice. Prepping ordinance one minute, he was bustled off to operating theatres the next, before following troops over the top.

Following the war Otto came home a tired man. His lust for adventure was all but annihilated, and he ended up taking whatever engineering jobs piqued his interest in the local papers. This is how he's got by following his honourable discharge, mostly working on Airships, and tinkering in the few spare moments he has in order that he needn't remember his past.

Primary Weapon: Electronic Arc-Rifle
Secondary Weapon: Webley Service Revolver
Support officer armour (This advanced piece of equipment provides Otto with a decent measure of protection in a fight as well as several other key features. Firstly the advanced helmet includes night vision apparatus as well as acting as a gas mask to filter out potential toxins. Secondly the suit augments Otto's strength and endurance, compensating for his natural deficiency in these areas. Lastly the armour serves to power his other pieces of equipment, although the armour itself must be charged on occasion.
Combat Engineer Interface (an advanced wrist mounted multi-tool. This powerful device allows Otto to fulfil his role as an engineer by providing him with access to any of the tools he could require (including a short range grapple able to life him clear off the ground). Its compact design means that whilst it is extremely versatile it barely weighs anything, a testament to Otto's skill for micro-clockwork.)
Combat Medic Interface (another piece of wrist mounted equipment, Otto's medical interface allows him to carry out basic surgery in the field. Whilst more useful in an actual operating theatre, the medic interface can be used in combat situations to stitch wounds, inject painkillers etc.)
