It still would be cool to have a chatroom for this.

Oh right! Could someone please set one up? I'm not very familiar on how.
UPDATE!

Aright, so I updated the map based on peoples claims. Just keep in mind that they may appear bigger then they really are since the plots also encompass a section of coastal water as well. I'll add all the fancy stuff like the nation's names, little after effects, and stuff like that once everyone finishes their nation sheet. Also, feel free to let me know if I missed something or misplaced a territory.
Sorry, but I think I'm gonna have to pull my interest out of this. You can use my characters for NPCs or such.

Since the atmosphere has become more WW1 than steampunk, you guys don't mind if I added in bolt action rifles and 19th century cannons to my army, right?

Yeah that's cool. I would honestly expect that much.
I'll update the map later tonight of the territories claimed so far.

I didn't have anything in particular in mind regarding propulsion/power just yet, but I'll PM you the pertinents if I come up with something, and do the same regarding my questions about MONSTERS and other such SCIENCE.One more question though. Does the northern cutoff on the map lead to 'parts unknown' or is that just the end of the world?

It's the north pole essentially. Lots of mountains and cold as fuck. This takes place on one mega continent. Geography aside, I can't wait to see what you come up with.

Hi folks, still interested despite all the int. check craziness. Are the isles of 84, 85, and 86 available?

Yep!

As far as I can tell the map wraps around, right?

Indeed

Given the inclusion of fantastic races such as elves am I right to assume there's some fantastic beasts along the lines of hydras and gryphons as well?

Hmmm....... Maybe... Perhaps yes, but I would like to exactly see what you have in mind.

I'm aware some people have their own explanations, but is there any solid answer as to how all the steampunk technology is powered?

Well in terms of power sources, Late era steam engines and early use of internal combustion. There are a few unique resources, such as Kavuria, a lighter thani air gas that is a more practical option than helium or hydrogen. See my NS in the library for more details on that. No magical engines so far, but if you come up with something cool, unique, and interesting, PM me about it and we can discuss it.

There was the whole plague thing too. It must have been worst than the black plague to have caused such stagnation.Maybe we should trim down a little.

Hmm.... good point...

I'll think about it. I got to hit to sack though, so I'll make any other updates tomorrow.
Remember the timeline thing!

It's just my opinion, but I think our populations are a little large for the time period, depending on how the size of the territories correspond to the real world.

Meh, the range is fine by me. I'll review the Nation sheets and their location then just go from there.

THE ROLEPLAY IS CLOSED AND IS NOT ACCEPTING ANY MORE NATIONS AT THE MOMENT!

Chatroom
Plot (Timeline is WIP
After the outbreak of the Jakarta Flu (which killed off eighty percent of the population), the world went into a dark period for five hundred years. It just stopped making inventions, countries didn't expand their land into the new world, it just stopped like the people didn't have a reason to live anymore. Until one day, where a man named, Landen Shelly, started to invent things that used steam. He later invent the first ever paddle steamer, which could cross from his hometown to the nearest city in two days, and it brought back the life into the people and they started to make use of the steamer. He then made the first ever hot balloon and showed it off on a holiday and it even amazed more people. The steam of inventions began to be made, anything from the blimp to the first ever flying ship, it made the world feel like it had a reason to live. It marked the start of an era, where inventions would become the main reason to live and countries would rise to grain the title of "Great Power", it was called: The Golden Era.
Rules
The rules are some what simple to follow, but you must obey them no matter what or else:

Respect the GM's word. I have the final say in any disagreement, however, I am always willing to discuss the issue. If you got a problem though, I implore you to PM me as I don't want to fill up the OOC with debates.

You're not allow to control the NPNs(Non-Player Nations). NPNs are there to fill the gaps and provide a springboard for conflict and tasty posts, though I would rather you guys not just use them as a way to continously expand your nation through war. There will be consiquences for simply declaring war one an NPN without any constructed reason.

Events are triggered by me and they will appear when ever. It can be good events or bad ones to one or more nations, of course, the events will appear based on your decisions. This is just to keep things moving and put a fun spin on the developing story.

Character-driven is a must in this RP, which means your posts must be more than a couple sentences and detailed. Just provide a decent amount of those two things and you'll be fine.

Please for the love of baby squid Jesus tell me ahead of time if you're going to be absent or leaving. I will take over your NS temporary and convert it into an NPN in order to not leave anyone hanging.

Grammar and spelling must be readable. No texting BS and no odd formats. Just readable paragraphs.

Nation Sheets must be posted in the Of Steam and Ambition - The Library of Nations in the Character Sheets forum and I will review them here.

The typical RP rules are here and must be followed. Which means no godmodding, power playing, meta-gaming, etc. And If you break them, I'll make such that you're sent back to whatever dimension of hell you came from.

The goal of this is to create a fun and good story, not to take over the whole world. Just have fun with your friends and make good stories.

The technology level is early 1900s. This means technologies such as self propelled aircraft, internal combustion engines, tanks, and other 20th century goodness are still very much in their infancy. That said, this is a fantasy tech RP! I want to see airships battling it out in the sky and mighty machines of steam scattered across the land. Have fun! Be creative! Remember the Rule of Cool. I do only have a few restrictions. Generally speaking, airships can be armed like their sea going counterparts, but the big differences will be that they're less armored and it takes a bigger ship for big guns. Like an airship armed with 30cm cannons would be much larger than a regular ocean going vessel with the same armament, thus Airships will be cost much more the better the armament. So a sea going battleship is gonna be significantly cheaper to use than an airship equivalent. Keep this in mind when creating both an Air Force and a Navy, as one will have to receive more support then the other. No specializing in both. Also no massive land behemoths (yet!), as the technology for such machines has only just arisen. Mark I tanks and such are cool though.

My nation has some stuff that could be handy...

Well then type it up! No need for any lengthy explanation or anything. Just the name of the event and when it happened.
Other than the timeline, I have the OOC up! SO lets get our nation sheets edited for the new era and get this thing going! Once the majority of you are ready, I'll get the IC underway.
