"You scared the living hell out of the poor thing," Laila frowned. She sighed and said, "Sure, let's get on with it." Then, she said, "And I don't mean that to sound pessimistic. I merely meant, yes, I'd like to continue."
Penelope listened intently, as she always tried to when hearing her friend talk and explain about Pokemon. She was interested in the creatures and wanted to know as much as possible about them. Though, she was very anxious because she didn't want to mess up a relationship with her very own Pokemon. She wanted to treat it as best as she could, kind of like her own child. More than a pet, of course, even though they could have been considered that. More like a bodyguard. Or...

Her thoughts were interrupted when they entered the cafe. She hadn't had the opportunity to ask the questions she'd wanted to ask James. She would be nervous meeting this professor. As they approached the man in the white lab coat, she put her hands behind her back and stood rather stiffly. "I'm Penelope," she stuttered. Then, she stuck out her hand for him to shake.
Laila uttered an apology before Griffin threw himself at the animal, also making an unnecessary and sort of comical noise as he did. Laila watched disinterestedly, because she knew the pig didn't really mean any harm. She had a kind of connection with animals; she could easily sense their intentions. The pig started to squeal, as if it were in pain, and that was when she cut in, "Hey, stop. You're hurting it. It's not gonna kill you."
Penelope walked alongside James, listening intently. "What are the needs of Pokemon? I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to take care of one... I'm afraid I might hurt it or something," she frowned. She had never dealt with a Pokemon in means of having to care for one - she was anxious. "Is it like a baby when I first get it? Will it be small and tiny or already big?"
Laila smirked, though she was shielded behind him. "As I told you, I'm allergic to meat. Do what you want with it, just make its death quick if that's your choice." She couldn't bear to see any being in pain. She backed up a little farther behind Griffin ,waiting for him to make his decision.
"No, I heard something. Behind us," Laila pointed. "I'm no expert in self-defense, trust me." The rustling noise continued and seemed to grow louder and closer as the seconds went by.
"Espeon deserves compliments," Penelope insisted, egging it on. She grinned at James and stuck her tongue out at him. "I would love to catch an Evee," she told him. "It would be so great!" With a wave of her hand, she dismissed his comment about missing out on a lot of other Pokemon. "Don't worry - I won't only focus on an Evee. There's plenty of other Pokemon I'd love to have, too." She walked out the door and took a few steps before stopping and looking behind her, "Well?" she grinned, "Are you coming?"
Late in the night, when everything was pitch black and Laila could no longer see the beauty of nature in front of her, she drifted off. She dozed - just barely. A noise disturbed her slight slumber. There was something rustling around in the wood behind them. She sat up and shook Griffin, "Hey, wake up. Wake up."
Without another word, Laila lay herself down and turned on her side, away from Griffin. Though she was tired, she did not sleep - it was like that most nights. This was the first night, however, that she had ever slept outside. The excitement seemed to be keeping her awake. She strained her eyes to see the trees in the distance, admiring them.
"You're right," she said. She looked over at him, "I fear being alone, and if my mother dies, I'll have no one. Not even the slaves that I've known all my years. I'll have to find my own place - probably marry a stranger right away, if I ever want to have a family, and I do." She sighed. "Then again, I think it would be better if I were on my own. I can take care of myself well enough."
