Edit: No longer accepting new players. If you want to join, you'll be put on the waiting list in case someone drops out.Somewhere deep underground where the daylight doesn’t reach are the Dungeons of Asmodeus, built by the titular demon lord to torment the mortals trapped inside for eternity. Once inside, the mortals are given a faint hope of escape: if they can make their way to the dungeon’s only exit, they will be free to go. The dungeon is designed like a cruel game: magical doors are littered throughout the maze of halls and hallways, which will only open if sufficient blood is shed near them, forcing the prisoners to fight among each other for a chance at freedom. When a prisoner dies inside the dungeon, they are brought back to life to fight again, thus feeding Lord Asmodeus’ hunger for agony. Until now, no one has ever escaped the dungeons, and all those who tried have gone insane from their repeated deaths. Soon, a new group of heroes will find themselves waking up inside the dreaded dungeons. Will they finally be victorious over the hazards of this demonic place, or will they succumb to madness like all those before them?
So basically, this is an overhaul of ImportantNobody's Wizard's Dungeun. 4-5 players will newly enter the dungeon and try to make their way through it, while I serve as the dungeon master. It will be challenging, so expect to die repeatedly and try to adapt to overcome a stronger foe. At the start, the characters will find themselves nearly naked, with all of their equipment gone. During their run through the dungeons, they will have to loot equipment from their enemies in order to survive. At first this will come down to basic weapons and armor, but later on they will also find magical artifacts that'll increase their physical or magical prowess, thus making for a sort of character progression.
As opposed to Wizard’s Dungeun, this RP uses checkpoints, which function somewhat similarly to bonfires from Dark Souls. Reaching a checkpoint brings all dead characters back to life and turns it into your currently active checkpoint. If the entire party dies before reaching the next checkpoint, they are all revived at the active checkpoint, enemies between the active and next checkpoint are revived and all loot found between the active and next checkpoint returns to its original location. Any loot gained before the active checkpoint respawns with you upon death. If the loot is damaged somehow, it’s returned to the condition you found it in when reaching a checkpoint (or upon total party kill).
Unless mentioned otherwise, the rules are the same as in Wizard’s Dungeun. The most important rules are:
1. Each person gets one character and can control only that character, so no godmodding or auto-hitting. Switching characters halfway is discouraged, but we can discuss it if you really want to.
2. After posting, you must wait until all other players have either posted as well or passed before posting again. This is to prevent people from getting ahead of the others and causing time dilation. If you ever intend not to post this round, please explicitly state so OOC, so that the others can continue.
3. If you keep the others waiting (by not posting) for 3 days, I can temporarily take control of your character to get things moving again. If you don’t post for 6 days, I can somehow kill your character with an auto-hit. If you’re still gone when we reach the next checkpoint (or everyone dies), we’ll have no choice but to continue without you for the time being.
4. As the DM, I have the last say on anything that happens IC. I’ll try not to be a dick about it.
For this I shall quote ImportantNobody:
Your characters can have medieval technology, peak human abilities, and minor magic, at best being able to blow a one story masonry house down after a long charged up spell and using up most of your energy. They don't have to be human, just along that level of ability. If they specialize in only one thing such as strength then they can exceed the normal limitations but must be weakened considerably in other areas. The more useful their magic the more energy it must take, so if you had a spell so powerful it could stop time then it would cause you to run out of energy nearly instantly. You cannot bring people back to life but you can slowly heal injuries. All of these restrictions don't apply to your enemies, so some of them can do some crazy things.
Note on equipment: You will lose your own equipment before the start of the RP, so using a character who relies mainly on his equipment is disadvisable. I'd also advise to use a fairly varied group of characters, because loot isn't necessarily tailored to the party and it'd suck to find a Pwnhammer of Justice and Doom, and have no one strong enough to use it.
