However, work had to be done to actually equipped the soldiers with these new weapons and so he, and the craftsmen who had helped him before, set to work to make thirty of these Crossbows, as they have been calling them. They would also need to make the ammunition, but that would be simpler to do.

Well as long as the Clans don't bother the passing by merchants and civilian ships, I think we're good :)
The most they would do is keep a close eye on them or try to engage in trade themselves
