Personality:
Due in part to the circumstances of her upbringing, Manto has been more comfortable with books than she is with people and has developed an impressive intellect as a result. That said, she gets along with children astonishingly well, which works well in dealing with the all youth Knights of Ceesrais. On occasion, she likes to tell them stories – her favorite ones being those her father shared with her, be it from the books he collected or the adventures he had in his youth, and on rare occasions she spins tales of her own youth.
Grimaldi’s teachings in the art of Obfuscation included some of the subtlest teaching he had to impart – the art of politics. In short, the art of playing nice enough with people you can’t stand to get the most out of your time in their presence. She is also quite comfortable with speaking her mind and employing the art of deadpan snarking. She won’t always reveal everything she feels about someone, but she does find the reactions people have to her snarking to be interesting enough to keep doing it. Besides, she finds that the disconnect between her frankness in speech and her magical aptitudes is too ironic to pass up.
She finds that trying to metaphorically knock people off-balance is an interesting way to learn more about who they really are. In addition to utilizing snark, if she is in a particularly impish mood she may decide to remove a few seconds of memory to “predict” what that person was about to say next.
She does her level best to prioritize the happiness and freedom of her people, although sometimes her attempts to also protect her people usually end up exponentially inflating the amount of paperwork and bureaucracy filed each day. Then again, she probably also considers that a bonus, since she also has made a major goal of running her nation to curate the largest repository of knowledge in the world (as well as mass-produce and distribute it all via robust subsidized publishing industries).
She is known to have her moments of eccentricity, and indulges herself in popular culture as well as matters of state. She currently produces her own WhoTube series,
Between The Stacks, about unexplained phenomena that occurs in the subterranean capital city of Peisistratos.
Character Flaws:
Manto has a hard time letting go of those she cares about, which given one of her aptitudes might be seen as ironic. In addition to becoming fiercely protective of said beloved ones, she becomes a bit more “flexible” regarding what boundaries she is comfortable in pushing. The fall of Fearia, and of its other leaders, has hit her harder than she prefers to let on.
Due to her education under the great Grimaldi and her father, Manto has learned that things are not always as they appear to be. While her skepticism could be seen as an asset by some, sometimes she becomes concerned with otherwise simple and straightforward situations, objects, and individuals. She does not tend to be satisfied until she has exhaustively observed and studied what has entered her sphere of interest.
Manto, in the past, was more comfortable with books than she is with most people. While she has been pouring her heart into trying to be a good ruler to her people, she often finds herself engrossed in research on virtually everything there is to know about them. This has led to some draconian levels of paperwork and authoritarian leanings, which clashes often with her attempts to make sure her people are also free, happy, and free to be happy. She is somewhat obsessed with obtaining “true” knowledge of things, events, and people, and will deliberately try to unbalance someone to try and learn more about who they really are.
Appearance:
To be revealed.
Character History:
Little is actually known about Manto’s past, before she rose to power at the head of The Kingdom of the Blind Man. Rumors abound about where she came from, when she was born, and even the exact nature of her parentage. A common rumor is that her father had actually taken the form of a woman some time before she was conceived, but of course the question of who or what the other party was that caused the pregnancy causes discussions of the rumor to derail almost immediately.
