"Here we go, down the rabbit hole..."
Silence.
It was too quiet.
Lethia enjoyed solitude, the quiet tranquility of being alone. It allowed her to organize her thoughts, to really find that inner peace within herself. Solitude over social interaction. It gained her many enemies, but she also gained self awareness as well. The busy noises of the city tended to distract her, more disruptive than comforting. Distracting, loud, a cacophony of sound.
This was different.
She couldn't hear the whisper of the leaves, or the call of the birds. She couldn't feel the grass rippling underneath her, or the caress of the wind on her skin. The scent of the fresh earth didn't reach her nose, or the fragrance of the flowers. She felt like crying out, grasping out to feel something--anything! She couldn't move, she couldn't utter a noise.
Lethia was suffocated. She couldn't feel her heartbeat--was it even beating?--she couldn't even breathe. Lethia was unable to move a limb, frozen in this sensory deprived state.
It terrified her.
If she had control over her body, she would most certainly be hyperventilating, crying, and freaking out in general. Her heart would be beating wildly, with no doubt. But she was unable to.
There was only darkness.
Falling.
Lethia was falling.
She awoke with a start, gasping and grasping at the grass. Her clear eyes immediately took in the blue sky. Why was she facing the sky? Oh, she was lying on her back. Lethia slowly regained control over her senses, and she pushed herself into a sitting position with a soft groan. She placed a hand on her forehead as she took several deep breaths. Where was she? What was going on?
Lethia squeezed her eyes shut as she struggled to recall her last memory. Everything was a haze, and it pained her head to try to force clarity. What was the last thing she did? Oh her head...
It was beginning to come back to her.
Lethia was hacking her lungs out, coughing her throat raw. The world seemed hazy, and her cheeks felt burning hot.A fever. Did she have a fever?
Her throat was aching, it was so sore from coughing, and she was parched. When was the last time she drank? Her tongue felt like sandpaper and she could barely gather enough saliva to swallow. She blindly groped around for the cup of water that she had at her bedside, but her clumsy fingers knocked it over, causing water to spill over the floor.
No, no, no, no, no...
Desperately, Lethia tried to sit up, but only succeeded in falling out of bed. Struggling to sit up, but failing, Lethia fell onto the floor, the water soaking her body as she lost consciousness.Yikes, not a good memory. She was sick, very sick. But that didn't explain why she was out here, in this unfamiliar place. One, she was sick, and fainted on her floor. Two, she lived out in the woods, all alone. She knew the area like the back of her hand. If this was anywhere around her home, she would know exactly where she was.
Lethia jumped to her feet, feeling no lingering affects of the dreadful fever she had before waking up here. There was nothing to be gained from staying in one place. It was time to explore.
Time is a very subjective concept. And Lethia completely lost track of it. How long has it been since she woke up? How many branches did she brush past?
After what seemed like an eternity, Lethia finally arrived at the large tree that commanded attention. She paused for a second, breath taken at the beauty. Was it even possible for trees to grow that big? It apparently was.
Lethia blinked a couple of times as a beautiful woman appeared in her field of vision. What was that in her hand? A letter with her name on it? How did she know her name...?
Curiosity overcame any suspicion as she opened the letter.
“You are here to learn how to take my place when the time comes.
You may be upset with me now, but my dear you will understand
Everything when the day arrives. You will become a God/Goddess
Your own.”What?
A Goddess? Lethia? Really? Was this a joke?
She blinked some more as she read and reread the letter multiple times. But... It made sense in a crazy way. How in the world would she be here if it wasn't the work of a more powerful being?
She was stunned, speechless and confused. When she looked up to ask a question, she was somewhere else again. She was even more staggered now. What in the world was going on? Some people seemed to be walking towards the large building. Maybe they would know what was going on. Lethia gripped her letter, and started to head towards the temple as well.
