The two colors are so close that they're basically interchangeable. The Wikia lists it as being Black/Steel, but again, even going back I can't distinguish between the two. It's a minor thing.

Either way, I'll abide by the Wikia's confirmation of Black/Steel. Not a big deal; glad to have another player!
All right. My apologies, Revan. I never noticed a distinct difference in her armor color throughout the series, but I'll update the list to adjust her to Black/Steel. Not a big deal.

Okay. I'm currently writing a CS. I'd like to reserve Iowa, and the colour combination sage/violet until I'm done if that is alright. I shouldn't take long.

No problem at all, Data. I'll put it on the list now.
All right, initial IC post is up! We're in motion, guys!

This is just a general introduction to my character/a jumping point for the roleplay. You can respond to it or start out with your own character being elsewhere in the ship. Please note: Later in the day there will be a briefing by the Director, which every freelancer will be expected to attend. I'll transition to the briefing following the introductions of the majority of the characters.
The Mother of Invention was a big ship. Lizzy had been on other frigates, as a matter of course, but it was the near skeleton-crew feeling of the freelancer quarters that made the ship seem so much larger and so much more empty. Her booted footsteps echoed hollowly in the corridors where few other Invention personnel came. Someday that would change and the 50 rooms along the crew corridors would play host to others with skills equal to or superior to her own, but for now she was one of few uniquely treated to a feeling of utter loneliness. Those who did the grunt work for Project Freelancer generally only passed by this area through the main corridors. Due to that, Lizzy had been able to catch at least a quick glimpse of everyone who would be her new comrades over the last few days. There was hardly a double-handful of them yet.

Lizzy stepped into the lift that would take her up to the next level, nodding at the first personnel member she saw. There would be a briefing later for the current freelancers regarding the fitness tests that would be occurring the next day and the training that would commence at the end of the tests, but Lizzy wanted to take advantage of the training room now, while she still had the chance.

As she entered the room, the cheerful voice of Project Freelancer's AI greeted her. "Hello, Agent Massachusetts."

"Hello, FILSS," Lizzy replied just as cheerfully. So far, the AI was the only "person" aboard the ship with whom she had had consistent conversations. "Can you set me up with a sniper training simulation?"

"Of course. Preparing long-range weapons training. Would you like stationary or moving targets?"

"Stationary for now, FILSS. And a weapon with live ammo, please."

"Affirmative." Lizzy crossed the room as the floor opened to raise a table hosting an assortment of weapons. Lizzy took the sniper from the batch and loaded a clip in, palming two more before she turned away and allowed the table to sink into the floor behind her. As she turned, she used her helmet interface to activate her internal speakers. Music flooded her ears, just soft enough for her to be able to hear FILSS if she tried.

FILSS had been busy while Lizzy's back was turned and targets at a variety of placements and distances had been set up for her. Lizzy took them all in for a moment, then she readjusted her grip on her weapon. Behind the opaque visor of her helmet, Lizzy's face reflected her sudden focus.

"FILSS, start the timer."

"Timer in 3... 2... 1... Activated."

The first shot rang out in time with FILSS's last word and Lizzy's boots hammered into the floor as she ran forward two paces and then took to one knee. Three additional shots rang out, one after the other, finding homes in three separate targets, and Lizzy dropped the empty clip and replaced it in a few swift movements. With a sureness to her movements, Lizzy took aim, moving on before the echo of the bullet's rapport had faded away. The second clip fell to the floor and the final one went in.

Lizzy stood, slowly backing away from the targets as she took aim for her last round. There was a slightly longer hesitation between shots as she moved, but bullet after bullet found its place.

"Time!"

Lizzy lowered the weapon and the volume on her internal speakers. The cobalt-and-white ODST helmet turned toward the clock and she let out a brief, heavy sigh. Two seconds faster than last time. It still wasn't enough, but it was better.

"FILSS, how many bullets were bulls eyes?"

"11 of 12."

Lizzy's lips twisted into a grimace at herself, but she reserved her disappointment only to that. After a moment of dwelling on the one missed shot, she mentally shrugged it off and turned back to the already-present weapons table. She rolled her shoulders to loosen up as she went to get more ammunition.

"FILSS? We'll try it with moving targets this time. And more distance."

Hi Victor! Welcome to the rp! Unfortunately the black-on-black color combination is used for a canon freelancer, Agent Texas. Just in case you aren't familiar with the series, here are the other canon colors that are taken:
Black/Black
White/White
Black/Yellow
Green/Salmon
Tan/White
Brown/White
White/Orange
Purple/Green
Magenta/Lime Green
Blue/Blue
Aqua/White
For a Freelancer? Everyone in the canon appears to be at least in their mid- to late 20s, if not older. I know one player here-- I want to say Nevada?-- is 21, and I'd like to keep that as the absolute lowest. At 21 you would have very little experience under your belt (even assuming you joined at 18), and the freelancers overall are meant to be skilled/experienced in their fields. Those who are younger will (generally, there could be exceptions) be less skilled than their older counterparts. That choice, however, is up to those of you making characters.

I'll be making a CS soon.

Brilliant! Always nice to have more players. Looking forward to welcoming you aboard.
Agent Massachusetts: Character Application

Name: Elizabeth Skyler

Nicknames: Lizzy Sky, Mass

Codename: Massachusetts

Age: 24

Rank: Freelancer (Former ODST)

Specialty (if any): Snipers, CQB [OOC Note: Slightly more skilled/used to CQB, but still an excellent-- and improving-- shot with a sniper.]

Armor: See icon. Cobalt blue armor with white accents and green arm band detail. ODST helmet, Mark VI shoulders, CQB chest piece.

Armor Ability: Camouflage

Appearance: Outside of her armor, Lizzy Sky could be typified as "cute." The young woman has bright blue eyes framed by light lashes and set beneath mildly arched eyebrows. She tends to wear her shoulder-length blonde hair in a short braid so that it doesn't get in the way or make wearing her helmet difficult. She has sun-kissed skin with a small mole on the edge upper right edge of her lip, and stands barefoot at a height of 5' 5". Build-wise she's thin and slightly pear-shaped due to the flare of her wide hips. She appears to weigh around 125 lbs, which, when coupled with her height, causes others to underestimate her capabilities.

History: Lizzy joined the standard UNSC Marines at the age of 19; she later applied and was accepted to the ODST program. She trained there for a year, earning excellent marks in training, and later displayed the high quality of her skills on missions along with her squad. It was from the ODSTs that Lizzy was invited to join Project Freelancer and, after a brief interview session where she asked more questions than they did, she agreed to the honor. She was among the first batch of recruits to arrive at the facility, go through the initial medical exams, and get outfitted. She has been training privately in preparation for the first monitored or partner training sessions.

Personality: Mass is a pleasant woman with good manners and a seemingly cheerful outlook on life. However, she IS a freelancer and she knows her way around a weapon well enough that those who try to mess with her thinking she'll be an easy target get more than they bargained for. She prefers hand-to-hand combat over guns, since her strength is in distance weapons or CQB. In spite of being a follower, she is stubborn and somewhat commanding. If Lizzy feels something is genuinely a bad idea, she'll put her foot down and refuse to let anyone go through with it. That said, if a mission was possible but poorly constructed in some way, Lizzy would be the first to point out the flaws in a plan before going through with it anyway. Orders are orders after all, so what's a little risky fun along the way? She's sweet, if a little unpredictable, and has a love of theatre and music.

Although she doesn't dwell on it, Lizzy is aware that she has always cared more about her squadmates and fellow soldiers than a soldier in wartime should. This innate concern for others can affect Lizzy's judgement in battlefield scenarios, as she is likely to be more concerned about a wounded companion than the objective of the mission unless someone who outranks her gives her a direct order. It is a quality which has, in the past, been both a blessing and curse and likely will elicit the same duality in the future. When paired with her age and her looks, she comes across as being naive or foolish to older soldiers/freelancers who are more grizzled or disinclined to sympathy than she.

Any specific weaknesses/flaws: Cares too much about others; nearly rubbish at mid-range weapons/grenades

Quirks: Has a tendency to play music from the "megaphone" function of her helmet while training. She also tends to dance when her music is on, even if it's mid-combat, provided the situation isn't serious. This sometimes leads to people believing she isn't entirely sane.
Welcome to the OOC thread for "Red vs Blue: Project Freelancer"!

This is a roleplay which takes place in the Red vs Blue version of the Halo universe. The setting is various locations-- primarily aboard the Mother of Invention-- during the time of Project Freelancer. We will be beginning from the conception of the program (in this case, the first set of recruits) and proceeding through the remainder of Project Freelancer's life. The rp has the potential to become an AU, but will focus primarily on freelancers who were not seen in the series (all OCs). Canon characters will also be welcome.

This is a high Casual roleplay, which should be written in prose (story) format in the first or third person (player preference, though third does make things less confusing). The only real posting requirements are to follow the conventions of high Casual writing and try to make a post a day. No stringent writing requirements otherwise. We are going to attempt to keep it to the tone of Seasons 9 and 10 of RvB: serious and relatively plot-driver, but with humor and fun mixed in.

Rules:
- Follow RPG general site rules. PG-13, though some cursing will be allowed. (They're freelancers, after all!)
- Do not god-mode without explicit permission.
- Do not have your character be all-powerful. Everyone has flaws, everyone takes hits, everyone loses battles. In a roleplay like this where characters are bound to be fighting other characters as well as general NPCs, it is important to acknowledge that the other freelancers are also skilled and will, occasionally, score hits, beat, or injure your character during training/combat. It's part of the fun!
- If you have OOC issues, please keep them OOC. If a character says something to your character ICly, it isn't meant as a personal jab at you; it is simply an aspect of roleplaying.
- Respect the other players.

Claimed Freelancers:
[Name (Gender) - Primary Armor Color/Secondary Armor Color]
  • Massachusetts (F) - Cobalt/White

  • California (F) - Maroon/Gold

  • Illinois (M) - Steel/Brown

  • Iowa (M) - Sage/Violet

  • Alaska (M) - Steel/Gold

  • Montana (M) - White/Steel

Please be aware of which armor color combinations have been taken already by both canon and non-canon freelancers. Each freelancer's color combo is unique.

Canon color combinations which are taken:
Please note: There is no such color as "black" within the Halo games, therefore black is "steel." If it shows up on this list, it is, in fact, denoting black. Please try to avoid overlap with canon colors.
Steel/Steel
White/White
Steel/Yellow
Green/Salmon
Tan/White
Brown/White
White/Orange
Purple/Green
Magenta/Lime Green
Blue/Blue
Aqua/White

Canon freelancers already have set genders, appearances, backgrounds, and personalities. Please be aware of all of the freelancers who have already been specifically crafted by Roosterteeth. Below you can find a quick list to refresh your memory.

Canon Freelancers: Maine, Carolina, South Dakota, North Dakota, Texas, York, Washington, Wyoming, Connecticut, Florida.
Canonically-Mentioned Freelancers: Utah, Georgia. [They are still useable as OCs, since they only appear in deleted scenes for RvB, so we don't know much about them other than that they are both male.]

Character Applications
Please post all Character Applications in this thread for a quick look-over prior to entering your character in the roleplay (this will just be double-checking for overlap, mostly). Remember, the more thoroughly you fill them out, the more your fellow players understand your character!

If you would like to make a character that fulfills missing roles within the freelancer program or within the rp (i.e. if we are high on CQB freelancers but low on distance/mid-range weapons specialists or if we need to balance out gender ratios), feel free to peruse the existing bios before you create your own. We are also always around to answer whatever questions about the characters and the rp you may have!

Count of Armor Abilities:
Camouflage - 1
Armor Lock - 2
Hologram - 1
Hardlight Shield - 1
Thruster Pack - 1
Drop/Domed Energy Shield - 0

Armor: [Image and/or specific description]
Armor Ability: [Please try to keep this diverse, where possible. Obviously there will be overlaps, but let's try to have a variety of abilities to work with. Only two freelancers may have the same power. Please see the list above to be certain your power is not already taken.]
