Solace is the most secure prison colony in all of the Omega sector which was located somewhere in the vicinity of beetlejuice. No one but those with top level clearance within the galactic federation of Kreel even knew the prisons actual coordinates but all within omega knew it was where they sent the worst of the worst so they would never return. And that it was built into the colossal and decaying carcass of some long dead astralphage.
Some of the most notorious criminals Omega had ever seen were kept here under tight lock and key. Those who were pliant enough to command safely were put to work mining rare materials from the astralphage carcass for as long as their bodies would hold up under the oppressive heat of a dying red star. The prison's interior was a stark contrast from the veritable planet of rotting flesh and bone slow cooking like a rotisserie chicken in the orbit of its parent star. Solace was sterile, cold and entirely uniform in chrome steel and black polymers throughout. Dim green lights illuminated the honeycomb like cell blocks where federation appointed super soldiers patrolled tirelessly. There was no indication of day or night within the prison save for the regular curfew where every twelve hours inmates would be gassed with aerosolized paralytic agents and left to lay in the dark for the next six. Though many of the inmates were of a species that didn't require sleep, and one or two had expired given that their species simply could not sustain life functions without movement, it was nevertheless voted into federation law that all inmates receive a mandatory six hour rest period at least once per day. And Solace enforced that law indiscriminately.
Within the center of the facility lies the Queen's Chamber: a cylindrical series of nine uniform rooms outfitted to hold the most dangerous and powerful prisoners within personalized isolation chambers designed to neutralize their odd and dangerous natural abilities. A tenth room capped the northernmost point of the chamber and this was where Solace's warden would oversee the prisons day to day while also keeping direct watch over the current inmates of the queen's chamber.
Solace certainly held some very dangerous customers. But none were quite as feared or infamous as the pirate lord Ix. Once the scourge of omega, Ix was from a mostly dead race of humanoids who could produce complex and highly potent pheromones that allowed them to control the emotional state and even the bodies of any who breathed them in. This coupled with his many genetic and cybernetic modifications made Ix a force to be reckoned with. As a result, the pirate lord was kept under tight surveillance and no one was allowed in or out of his sealed zero atmosphere holding cell. And Ix did not require much sustenance or support so what was needed could be provided through the cells built in fabricator robots. But even these measures were insufficient to hold the pirate lord forever. And soon Ix would hatch a plan that had been decades in the making. Not to escape Solace, but to take over and make it his new base of operations. After all, it was heavily fortified. Filled to the brim with perfect candidates for a new crew. And even had a small fleet of attack drones at its disposal. While it wpuldnt make up for his old ship and crew, it was certainly a start.
