/bluescreensEverything I remember about FGW is now officially a lie O_O My childhood is ruined, RUINED!We're getting off track anyways, so I'll just concede the point.

It's probably because First Capital Connect runs services from King's Cross.

Or did, but they lost the franchise this year.

This point made me do far too much digging into trains XDBR was privatised between 1993-1997 during which time the colours were often kept at a stock green, similar to the ones seen in the first film, but that doesn't prove anything either way because First Great Western also had green trains in the 2000s operating out of Kings Cross. Moar ambiguity.If only an official date had been given, my anal retentive streak wouldn't frustrate me so >>;

FGW is Paddington, not King's Cross.

You're thinking of Midland Mainline, which ran from St Pancras next door.

Actually, it's probably better that we keep the anal stuff to PMs before we scare people off.

Never understood why there was a difference though. A lot of what goes on in the characters heads and their actions are distinctly 90s style; no mention of the internet or social media among the muggles.

Constraints of location filming? For example it's not practical to repaint all the trains in King's Cross into the correct early nineties British Rail liveries just for the film.

Despite the general ambiguity of the timeline, if I remember right there was a reference to the date during Nearly Headless Nick's 500th Deathday where his death was said to be 1492, putting the current date at 1992 (in the second book anyways).. . . I just realised how sad I must look for remembering that :/As for the films, it's mainly implied by the background, though I guess it could be taken either way.

Which is why I made the distinction between the Book and Movie timelines.
MiddleEarthRoze said When are we setting this? During the book timeline, the movie timeline, or are we starting as it is now?

It's been stated that this takes place within one of the canon time periods, so option three is off the table right away.

Also, Harry Potter is set in the 90s so no Netflix or broadband.

Actually, it's not made clear whether this RP is set in the book or movieverse, and the films don't explicitly date themselves the same way the books do, although some landmarks (most notably the Millennium Bridge in London) do put the films more or less in the modern day.

In this roleplay - I would imagine that we could incorporate plenty of HP facts - but are we only sticking with canon facts? Because I've seen some awesome headcanons stating that some Muggleborns hooked up some wi-fi in the Room of Requirement.Just think: Movie marathons from netflix in Hogwarts. It would be awesome. Especially when seeing Purebloods react to epic space battles and fantasy films. XD

You're forgetting that muggle technology explicitly does not work within the castle grounds.
Speaking as one of the people who tried to start one of these and had it die, I'm down for it.
Yay!
