The two fell several feet to the floor below, the girl falling on Myrtle and knocking th4 sir out of her. She heaved, coughing heavily into her fist while she laid I'm the burning bed of ashes. Fire surrounded them on all sides. Bits of fiery embers burned away. Her vines were done for.
"I'm scared," the girl cried, sitting up. The two girls clung to each other. The seeds in her pockets were drying out and on the verge of dying. She willed an oak tree to grow but it was taking to long. They would be dead before it could form a shield or left them to safety. But the vines became brittle and died before long. They were done for. Myrtle hugged the girl close, her eyes closed from swelling in her eyes.
Against all odds, somebody jumped out of no where and offered a hand. Half blind, Myrtle held the girl's hand and reached out towards the human shaped silhouette.

"Sometimes I wonder if I had been born during the Renaissance, maybe then I would be considered beautiful." ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
▼ PHYSICAL APPEARANCE:
Mary is not considered very attractive by modern standards due to her large, upturned nose, sunken bulgy eyes, toothy English smile, and small mouth. She has an ovular face with thin, but wavy, reddish golden blond hair. Her eyes are hazel, but often appear to change color depending on her environment, varying from green to blue to yellow to brown. Her face and body is speckled with dark freckles that contrast her pale skin. The girl has a slightly small, but mature chest and broad shoulders for a female. Her muscles are just slightly developed from cardio activities, leading to toned, but not muscular arms and belly, a line down to her belly button visible. Her hands and feet are bony, and skin somewhat translucent and prone to bruising and discoloration.
▼ ATTIRE:
Her fashion sense is best described as Bohemian, hippie, or flower child. She prefers to go natural, without make-up, and her hair unstyled. She enjoys light, airy clothing that can flow in the wind and appreciates textures such as lace and knit. Clothing is usually covered in beautiful patterns and many colors or pure white. She usually accents her hair with flowers, chains, or headbands. Stone and bead jewelry is often found around her neck, wrists, and ankles.

"Some may say I’m weak... But deep down, I know I’m strong." ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
▼ PERSONALITY:
To strangers, Mary may seem cold or distant. She rarely smiles and usually appears somewhat sad or lonely. She avoids eye contact, and when looking toward someone, it often appears that she is looking through or past them with a vacant or dreamy expression.
She keeps to herself and only speaks softly and cautiously when spoken to, speaking a few words when she does or responds with sounds. She is shy, introverted, and avoids socialization and especially confrontation. In most cases, she would just agree or do what is asked of her, keeping her head down.
Due to her childhood bullying, Mary developed social anxiety and stage front. When near other people, she freezes, stutters, or stammers when trying to speak. She also becomes more clumsy, causing her to trip, fall, or drop things she’s holding. When she is actually able to bring herself to communicate, she is friendly and kind.
Closer friends get to see more sides of her. The more she gets to know or is exposed to someone, the more likely Mary will open up to them. When speaking about something she is deeply passionate about--such as the wellbeing of plants and animals and protecting the earth and its inhabitants--her eyes twinkle and she speaks louder and higher pitched than normal, sounding almost childish at times. She may even smile, her little closed-mouth smile. The happier she is, the pinker her cheeks and face become.
While Mary deeply cares about people as a species, she has difficulty forming bonds with others. The girl has trouble understanding body language and cues. While she easily cries while watching sad movies, a real-life death or separation may not seem to affect her at all. That does not mean she doesn’t care, however. She can feel emotion as deeply as anyone, even if she has trouble showing it.
▼ SKILLS/TALENTS:
Academics: Her limited social life has allowed her to focus more on studying. While she is not academically talented, she puts a lot of time and hard work in to make up for it. Hobbies: Mary enjoys art in many forms, reading, gardening, swimming, and hiking.

"I’ve seen how bad life can be. I want to show others how good it can be." ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
▼ BACKSTORY:
Mary grew up in a rural town of New Hampshire. Her parents divorced early on and she and her sister were shuffled between them. Her father was a stern, heartbroken man who pushed her to exceed academically and had trouble showing love. Her mother was a drunk who stayed with an abusive alcoholic boyfriend. She feared for her life when she was with her mother, and suffered from loneliness and insecurity when she was with her father. Her sister never seemed to be around, and when she was, she saw Mary as an embarrassment.
School was no better. She was often targeted by bullies due to her meekness and less than desirable looks and poverty. While teachers regarded her as the perfect student, they never stood up for her. Bullies called her ugly, weak, stupid, brown-noser, and often shoved or ordered her around. If people weren’t bullying her, she was left to her lonesome. If groups were required, she was always picked last or forced to do all or at least the majority of the work. Mary would just keep her head down and do as she was told, not wanting to start anything.
Finding no sanctuary at home or school, Mary would retreat to nature. When she was young she would hide in the woods, spending her time climbing trees and searching for little bugs, or feeding animals food stolen from home. As she got older, she would slip away with a book, music, or sketch pad, or go exploring.
It was on one of these explorations that she discovered a delta crystal in a small crater. At first, she thought it was a meteorite. Wanting to add it to her collection, she reached down for it and a strange power surged through her, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious.
It was hours later that she came to, woken by a strange new sense of danger. She could hear snarling, howling, and the shuffle of leaves. Something was out there--she could sense it, see it. There were actually several large blue creatures in a whole night sky of green and blue stars.
Mary sat frozen in fear. She was surrounded by a pack of coyotes. She held her breath and closed her eyes, awaiting her end.
The coyotes lunged and Mary screamed. Prickle bushes and vines shot from the ground, encircling her, stabbing out and stopping the dogs in their tracks. The coyotes yelped, whimpered, trying to free themselves from the bushes. When she dared to open her eyes, she saw the dogs were long gone and the was surrounded by a circle of plants dripping with blood.
The next day, Mary confessed to her father what happened and proudly demonstrated her newfound power. But there was no praise, no hug of relief that she survived. He simply walked away without word.
The next morning he informed her that she would be sent to boarding sxhool-Academy 003. A week later she was packed and at the airport. She and her alcohol-infused mother shared a tearful goodbye. Just before leaving she received a pat on the shoulder--the first ever sign of affection from her father--before boarding the plane bound for Myrtle Beach, SC.

"I know plants better than I know people." ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
▼ CLASSIFICATION:
Red
▼ POWER INFORMATION:
Chlorokinesis: Mary can telepathically control the growth and movement of plants. This allows her to grow plants and seeds around her to great sizes, and to use vines and branches like prehensile arms or tails. She can also induce flowering, fruiting, seeding, and pollination. These skills can be used to feed herself and others, increase her supply of plant seeds, and to provide cover with clouds of pollen, petals, leaves, or airborne seeds. Created matter cannot be reabsorbed. Plants that cannot sustain themselves naturally will die.
Chloropathy: This ability allows Mary to feel light, moisture, heat, cold, pain, and vibration through plants. This ability helps her detect non-living things such as machines and other unnatural occurrences.
Life Aura: Mare can see living plants and the creatures that come in contact with them. Unliving or dead matter appears black or grey. Plants appear green, molds and fungus are blue-green, animals-blue, regular humans-indigo, and delta humans-violet.
Ecological Empathy: As an extension of her aura sense, Mary is able to feel distress, such as that caused by wildfire or the chopping of trees, or bliss caused by a good day. She can sense fear and agitation in animals. Humans are more complex, so she can only sense intese emotions. Her empathy manifests as 'gut feelings', such as heart or stomach pain.
▼ LIMITS:
Chlorokinesis: Cannot conjure plants out of nothing, nor can she control or revive dead plants or materials such as paper or wood. This means Mary is at a disadvantage while in buildings and cities where there is little plant matter and soil. She also cannot alter the DNA of her plants, so the usefulness of her plants is limited by their species.
Her maximum range is roughly 100 yards (one football field). Her strongest vine could only support about 80 lbs including its own weight, but she can control approximately 1 ton (large truck) of plant matter at a time. Heavy use of her power leases to physical and mental fatigue.
Other abilities: Limited range (see above). Animals and people can be sensed while in contact with her plants, but may only be sensed for about 2 minutes after contact is broken. Excessive use of her abilities may lead to headaches and migraines.
▼ WEAKNESSES:
Her power is partially derived from solar energy, so she is weaker at night, during overcast or cloudy weather, and especially during autumn and winter when days are shorter. She is also more sensitive to heat and cold than most people.
Her abilities are easily countered with fire, lightning, and ice. These elements can outright destroy any plant matter she creates. Fire and other energy bursts can also obscures her aura sense, causing it turn shades of red, orange, and yellow.

Wallflower was met will a sheet of black smoke. She fell to her hands and knees, coughing hard and her eyes stinging and watering. I'm going to regret this, Myrtle groaned, but a little girl needs help.
Vines extended, sliding out into the hallway. One went right, the other went left. Myrtle would use them to feel for fire and to help find her way back to the open window--their exit. While she couldn't hear through them, she could sense vibrations and would be able to detect damage if the vines were stepped on.
The young heroine kept low, trying to stay below the smoke. There was incoherent shouting down below, being drowned out by spraying of the firehose. Her vines sensed intense heat coming from the stairs leading downward. If the girl was down there, she was probably done for. But Myrtle wasn't about to give up.
She must be terrified of all the noise, Myrtle reasoned. Feeling a tickle in her throat, she coughed into one fist for a moment before continuing crawling to down the left side, hoping with all her heart it was the right direction. She went past a bathroom, and the vines didn't find anything moving in there. There was a small storage closet, but it was stuffed to the brim, and a pile of clothes fell out of it. Myrtle thought to take a couple of pieces out of the pile and held one to her mouth to filter the air.
The last room was larger. A bedroom perhaps. The vines spread out quickly through the room, over and under furniture. She almost turned around, but one vine felt warmth. Tammy, her heart rejoiced. Despite her aching muscles rug-burned knees, she crawled with renewed vigor.
"H-hello?" Myrtle called out into the room, taking the fabric away from her mouth. She strained her eyes, but the room was blurred by her pouring tears. "Go away! Leave me and my mommy alone!" a weak, frightened voice cried back. She heard a faint coughing from one corner of the room and started crawling toward it. "My.. My name is Wallflower. I'm here to help," Myrtle assured her. "No.. no! you're a monster. And the other monsters are downstairs hurting my Mommy. One of them almost got me, but I stayed quiet," she whimpered, before breaking into a coughing fit. She struck at the approaching vines, crushing them. "No, I'm not a tentacle monster or alien-octopus-thing or anything, I promise. Open your eyes, you'll see what I mean," she urged her. Vines began to sprout beautiful leaves and flowers all around the little girl. A minute passed, and the girl picked up one of the vines, sniffling and coughing. "There is a fire downstairs, and firemen are trying to stop it but it's too big. We need to get out of here... Follow the vines to me, Tammy. We don't have much time," Myrtle begged her. The vines on the stairs were drying out and beginning the burn. It wouldn't be long before the fire was headed their way if the floor didn't collapse first.
There was a scuffle, and then Wallflower felt a tug on her vines. She crawled toward the girl and when she met her, she brought her in a one-handed hug. "You'll be okay, I promise. Here, take this fabric and hold it to your nose and mouth, it will filter the smoke. Now close your eyes and follow me," Myrtle said, letting her go and giving her the clothes piece. She felt the girl nod.
"Okay now, we're going to follow the vines to the window where I came in. Don't worry, we can climb down the vines," Wallflower directed as the crawled out to the hallway. A glow was clearly visible and climbing up the stairs. Myrtle coughed a bit and put the fabric back to her mouth. They were crawling fast, but the fire was crawling faster.
"We're almost out," Myrtle said with relief in her voice, leading her into the escape room. But they didn't get barely two feet in before there was a loud CRACK! SNAP! and the floor collapsed under them.
Several hours went by without much. The sun came out, the air warmed up, and there was a nice, cool breeze. Truly a perfect day to stroll through the city.
Other than seeing a couple panhandlers around, the Hanover Street area seemed pretty safe during daylight hours. People peaceably visited the many restaurants, smoke lounges and bars without causing trouble. And if there was any gang activity, it wasn't in the open yet.
Myrtle leisurely walked home, enjoying the weather but feeling disappointed. She didn't really want to fight anybody, but something was telling her she should. She felt like she failed to fulfill her purpose, somehow. The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached.
The sun was setting as she started over the bridge to the West Side. The temperature had dropped significantly and Myrtle hugged herself in her hoodie to keep warm. Regardless, she stopped on the bridge to watch the sun set over the city and the river, while trying to decide if she should bury her sorrows with a tub of ice cream.
At first she didn't really notice the sounds of sirens over the roaring of water and cars passing by. But then a whole parade of fire and rescue came driving by. Police, ambulance, firetrucks, all heading toward the West Side. Maybe I can help, Myrtle thought, clenching her fists in the long sleeves of her hoodie. She ran off, following the sounds of trouble. Around ten minutes later Myrtle arrived at the scene. She was breathing hard and her side ached like she had been stabbed. The sirens were deafening. But her heat nearly stopped when she saw what the commotion was about.
Fire. A massive, burning flame was consuming a single family home. Embers were flying, endangering neighboring homes and foliage. A mother was somewhere between sobbing and coughing. Her clothes were blacked from smoke and soot. A fireman was questioning her.
"My daughter Tammy is sti-still in there! Please, you have to save her, please..." she pleaded, falling to her knees and grasping at the man's pant legs. "My best men are in there. We'll find her," he promised. But when he turned to look at the fire, Myrtle could see the worry in his eyes.
I have to help them, Myrtle decided, heart racing. She bolted for a patch of trees and underbrush, set her bag down, and pulled out her costume. A minute later she was Wallflower. Wallflower slipped around back under the cover of darkness, with only the light of the blazing fire. An upstairs window was open, smoke whisping out of it, but no sign of flame. She tossed a few seeds, urging them to grow. They were faster, furious even, in how quickly they grew. Wallflower climber into the window seconds after the vines reached it.
"Tammy!" Wallflower called out, stepping into the room. She checked under the bed and in the closet to no avail. She extended the vines into the room, willing one to touch the knob-- still cool. With a gulp and a twist of her wrist, she opened the door to the next room.
