How to train your dragon is one of my favorite franchises! Let's see if I can come up with an interesting character...

@Heartfillia

A cool breeze blew by, carrying with it a tiny, glowing seed. It swirled and danced on the air, finally settling in a few strands of Dani's golden locks. I was...shocked? But I'm ok..., a mysterious voice seemed to whisper in her ear. Dani stopped in her tracks, heart racing and wide-eyed like a deer in the headlights.

Her mother stumbled but held tight to Dani, using her to keep balance. Dani just stood there, unblinking, with her heart pounding. Her mother put her cool hand to the girl's clammy forehead and felt her cheek and face. "Honey, what's wrong? Are you feeling faint again? Don't be frightened, I'm right here," she soothed, stoking her daughter's long hair.

Dani was hardly listening. She stared blankly ahead, lost in thought. Di-did he hear me? Was... was that him answering back? Dani wondered frantically. Never had she heard such a deep voice come from a dandelion messenger. They were usually celestial. Angelic. The dandelions must have contacted him on her behalf. But then, did that mean her mind was no longer sacred? Could she trust the dandelions with her thoughts and feelings and secrets? What if she accidentally hurt someone by thinking something she would never say out loud, or what if people found discovered her power...

The next thing she knew, a man with that same deep voice was speaking right in front of her, asking if she was okay. It seemed her hunch was right. She looked him in his amber eyes and at his scarred face for only just a moment before looking away with an embarrassed smile and reddening cheeks. "I um, I'm fine, really... " Dani stammered quietly. It was bad enough to be speaking with somebody she didn't know, and worse that he might figure out she has powers.
Dani looked down at the dog by his side to distract herself and avoid accidentally sharing her thoughts, but the dog only made her feel more anxious. Good doggy..good doggy...good doggy... Dani repeated in her head. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, clearing her mind.

"Oh, just a case of heat exhaustion. A little bit of water and some shade and she'll be right as rain," Dani's mother answered for her, patting her on the shoulder. Feeling a little more calm, Dani nodded and drank from her plastic bottle water to help support her mother's explanation, while avoiding eye contact. "She's a little shy around strangers," her mom explained, leaning in to whisper toward the brown-eyed man, before wobbling back upright.

"Anyways... my name is Fauna and this is Danielle, William, Destiny, and Abagail. Say hello to the nice gentleman, kids." Fauna said with a friendly smile, pointing to each child in turn. Abagail crossed her arms and mumbled 'hello', William nodded and said 'hey'. Destiny gave him an energetic wave, 'hi' and a big grin, glancing to and from the man and his dog, but more interested in the dog. Fauna nodded approvingly. "And who do we have the pleasure of meeting?" she asked.

"Can I pet your dog? Can I please?" Destiny suddenly blurted out, reaching for the animal. Danielle grabbed for her sister's shirt sleeve, trying to stop her, but the girl slipped from her grasp.

Something went wrong. Terribly wrong. One moment Dani was watching lightning dance, the next second somebody got struck. A line of dandelions lit up like Christmas lights before promptly disintegrating as Dani shrieked and fell to her knees and crumpled to the ground in pain.

The would around her faded out, and Dani became somebody else--a young man in a mysterious room that smelled of burning flesh. Her new body was beaten and bruised, and felt like it had been for days. But even worse than they pain was the tortured screams of seemingly familiar voices. A vague pressed a live wire to her arm, sending a second surge of pain through her body...

Danielle awoke screaming and disoriented. Who was she? Where was she? She groped at her arms and face. "Dani? Dani?" somebody asked, hovering over her with breath that reeked of alcohol. Her mother, Dani realized. She was herself again, and the pain was gone "Are you okay, Dani?" William asked with big eyes. "You scared me! Don't do that again, Dani!" Destiny chastised with a wrinkled forehead and pouty lips. "Just get up already!" Abagail muttered.

With her mother's help, Danielle sat up slowly. William handed her a bottle of water and she took it gratefully. After a few gulps she put the cap back on. Her mother pat her back. "There, there. Take it easy. We think you might have had heat stroke. You were hallucinating. Let's get you out of the sun," she soothed, rubbing her daughter's back. Danielle felt like throwing up.

"Oh-okay..." Dani answered weakly. She took her mother's hand and shakily returned to her feet. Her mom put her arm around her daughter's shoulders and began leading her toward their cabin. As they continued past the group she was watching previously, the girl settled on a man in his late twenties with a well-behaved working dog between his legs. She looked at the man's arms and face and found scars, many of them deep. With all these details, and her gut feelings, somehow she just knew he was the one the vision had came from.

What happened to you? Dani asked the universe with tears running down her cheeks. He looked like such a good guy, and he didn't deserve whatever happened to him. The girl sniffled, wiped her tears away and continued into cabin '2'.

Unbeknownst to her, the universe listens, and a nearby dandelion seed carried her question heavily to the man known as Ryker Burke.

This time Danielle sat in the front passenger seat with the window rolled down as she and her mother weaved back and forth down a long gravel road. Hee younger siblings napped, snowing softly, while her sister listened to her music. They were surrounded on either side by what felt like jungle. There were towering trees with twisting vines and giant leaves so dense you could hardly see a foot in. There were colorful birds, hanging snakes, and skittering lizards. The air was thick with heat and humidity, causing beads of sweat to form on her forehead. The girl closed her eyes and leaned her head out the window, welcoming the breeze.

Her heart was anxious, racing. She breathed in a heavy breath. Almost a month had passed since Danielle and her family moved to Florida, but it all felt so strange. She felt like an alien on a distant planet, lightyears away from the forest and meadows she had called home, and its inhabitants were not taking kindly to her.

Danielle was not alone, however; the dandelions had come with her and she came to see them as her friends. They were like little fairies or sprites that whispered hopes, dreams, and words of encouragement in her ears (and some gossip from time to time). Somestimes, when she was alone, Dani would whisper back.

Dani had almost given up hope of attending the conference when just last night, Dani's mother purchased last minute tickets after a big fight with the boyfriend. She had taken a few punches and needed to 'get away'. It was bittersweet. Dani couldn't help feeling like it was her fault, but she just knew she had to be there. The dandelions had told her so. Danielle breathed out, letting her troubles get taken away on the breeze.

Soon they came upon a clearing, where probably one hundred cars parked haphazardly on unmarked ground. Danielle's mom pulled crookedly into a spot, easily taking up two cars worth of space. "We're here! Everybody get out and get your bags," Mom said cheerily as she shut of the engine. She turned around and smiled with a tiredly with puffy eyes, gently shaking the two younger ones awake. A few grumbles and protests later, and the family was making their way toward their campsite, as they had opted for less expensive or inclusive tickets.

There were people of all different kinds gathered around, chatting up or heading to the motel or cabins. Some looked like academics, some looked extraordinary with mutations or exhibited powers, and others seemed to just be average Joes looking for a good time. Dani closed her eyes as she walked, listening for whispers...

Yuck, what is that smell? I want an essence of my own... I wish I had powers! I hope I meet a cute guy today... I want a power just like my dad...! Oh, if only I could live here... I wish I never got this stupid power! When is this thing going to start? Uh, I hate bugs! I never should have come here...

Danielle was startled by a high-pitched whistle and crackling followed by shouting and shrieking of nearby onlookers, causing herself to let out a little 'eep!' and hide behind her backpack. "Awesome!" William exclaimed while making a fist. "Yeah, cool!" Destiny echoed. Even Abagail seemed somewhat interested in the commotion.

"Come along kids, it's not polite to stare. Mind your business," their mother admonished, pulling the younger ones along by their hands while they protested. Abagail shrugged and followed after them. Dani, on the other hand, lingered, captivated by the arcs of electricity and scent of lemon zest in the air...

Somewhere on the long road, a young girl rest her head against the cool glass window pane of the family car. She stared blankly out at the side of the road, watching trees and clouds and houses go by. She was day dreaming--the rest of the world had been tuned out; there was only Danielle and her imagination.

She became an angel flying among the clouds with a bird essence, or sped along the roadside with the essence of a cheetah. Further down the road she transformed into a dragon, aided by the gliding lizard. Then she was a fairy with the wings and essence of the butterfly.

As she dreamily flew alongside the car, she noticed white balls of fluff began to appear and float all around her.
Snow?Dani wondered, but it was much too warm for snow. No... dandelion seeds! Lots and lots of dandelion seeds! she exclaimed as she fluttered and twirled around the street with her arms out, giggling with her eyes closed in glee.

As the balls of fluff came closer, she began to hear overlapping, disembodied whispers.
Listen...Listen... Listen...Listen... Danielle looked around confused. The voices were getting more insistent, now. One seed drifted toward her, and Danielle reached out, cupping it in her hands. Wake up! the seed seemed to shout in a loud whisper.

"Wake up, Danielle! Wake up!" a sweet, young voice whined. Somebody was pulling at Dani's clothes. It was Destiny, Danielle's younger sister. Her brother was pointing at the girl with a smug, mischievous face. "He's touching me!" she complained with pouty lips and a wrinkled forehead as she pointed at him. "Am not!" William protested. Their mother's scolding face appeared in the rearview mirror."William, leave your sister alone! Both of you, listen to me. I'm trying to drive."

"Huh... whah...?" Dani answered groggily. She rubbed her eyes and blinked twice. All seemed normal. The two half-siblings were slapping each other and screaming. Abagail, the eldest sibling, was in the front passenger seat leaning back with her eyes closed and big headphones on and muffled music coming out. Her mother turned around while driving and gave William and Destiny the glare, and they immediately fell silent and still. She turned back around, lifted a cigarette to the open window and flicked.

The car was quiet now, but for radio static and muffled music. Danielle fidgeted, adjusting her legs and looking out the window. What was she listening for, and why did she feel so inclined? She started combing her tangled hair with her fingers anxiously, when she noticed something white and fluffy stuck amid her golden locks.

A dandelion seed? Dani thought, bewildered as she picked it delicately out of her hair. Please listen, the voice echoed again. Her eyes went wide with surprise. "Are... are you talking to me?" the girl asked in a hushed whisper as she stared at the seed caught in her fingers. A few seconds passed, and there was nothing but her mother's sigh, grumbles in the backseat, and something oddly intriguing on the radio.

"Mom, cou-could you please turn the radio up?" Danielle asked quietly and politely. "Of course, honey," her mother answered with a smile in her eyes, looking back in the mirror. She reached for the volume dial and turned it up, mostly getting static. --One of our head researchers possesses an essence...plant essence..." it began before cutting out.

Danielle's heart skipped a beat. "Oh please, Mom, get it back! I want to hear the rest," Dani pleaded. Her mother chuckled. "You and your silly fascination with essences." She adjusted the channel knob, eventually getting it back, somewhat. "--Our upcoming Summit on Human and Animal Relations with Plants...You need not be a scientist or doctor...some conferences...lighthearted activities...Everyone is welcome."

"Can we go, Mom? I'll use my allowance money to pay for us!" Dani volunteered enthusiastically. "Please, please!" she begged uncharacteristically. The girl was never one to ask for anything, but this felt important. There was silence as she listened to the radio, considering.

"This is boring!" William complained. "Yeah, boring!" Destiny joined in. They started bouncing in their seats. "Boring, boring, boring!" Mom sighed and turned the radio off. "I'll think about it, honey. That's a big commitment." Danielle smiled. That wasn't a 'no'.

Thank you, @Zanavy, that's a great power rule I forgot to touch on. =)

And don't worry, I fully intend to roleplay Dani respectfully and appropriately for her age. Thank you!
At long last, here is my character sheet! Sorry life has been busy and it took me a while to get around to it. What do you think?

Welcome back, @Martian! Jumping right back in is fine by me. ^_^ Nice post, by the way. My character is an anime fan as well... maybe I could have her join, too.
