@Mercenary LordUm, probably.
@CollectorOfMyst Hey, how's the CS coming along? I think you're the last person we're waiting on. Once I get your CS I'll start working on Ragnar's relationships with everyone.

@Draken I'd say the median temperature within the aegis is still intensely cold. I picture the slums of Varya being a place where people die out in the streets from the cold every day. Poorer homes would have miniature ether lamps to protect from the more intense cold but it'd still be chilly inside, while wealthier people would have powerful ether machines in their mansions and palaces that'd allow them to walk around naked if they wanted to.

Outside the aegis, the weather would be magnitudes colder than the coldest temperature recorded in our world, which is why the aegis is absolutely necessary. Without an aegis, and while wearing proper equipment, soldiers can survive in the icefields for about an hour before succumbing to the cold, while Muraadans, who have lived in the northern icelands for centuries, can survive outside of an aegis for double that amount of time.

I should also mention that due to the battle between the two titans eons ago, this world is all fucked and weird. There is no rain anywhere on the continent, only blizzards and hailstorms. And while there is a day/night cycle, there are no stars or celestial objects to be glimpsed. The sky goes from stark white to a muddy grey to pitch black. Clouds do exist and thundersnow (google it, it's rad!) is a common occurrence out in the icefields.

@shylarahAw, she's precious! Does she typically wear white while not wearing her Inquisitor uniform? Makes her look like an actual benevolent priestess and not a warpriest serving a horrible god. :p
@Scout Yay! Sorry for taking so long to read through this, but I love her! I might have some ideas for her etheric powers that I'll PM you. Besides that, there's only one small change you need to make.

Omestrian's eyes are a burning gold/amber-like color. That's usually how they're identified by Varyan slavehunters. Which, I just realized, presents the possibility of desperate Omestrian parents damaging the eyes of their children to save them from becoming slaves. :(

EDIT: Also, since you're coming on late and seem to be a bit pressed for time at the moment, would you be willing to make Viveca not part of the class, so as to not have a deep established history with most of the others? This is up to you!
Just post her here. :)
@DrakeySorry, haven't had a chance to read it until now. That was really cool! It was great getting a peek into his mindset. Also, he and Ziotea are an adorable couple and I can't wait to see how their relationship develops!

@Sisyphus Here's Hassan! Thought he'd look cool with a trenchcoat, so I gave him a trenchcoat! Gave him a few traditional T'saraen clothing accessories as well. :)

By the way, just in case anyone was wondering, these drawings are just for funsies. They aren't meant to be like, canon depictions of your characters or anything-- just my interpretations of them. I'm doing these as a thank you for you guys putting in so much effort into creating your characters and relationships, and also it's good practice for me! I actually haven't drawn seriously in years, so it's fun getting back into it. :p
@Mercenary LordYeah... 11 people is already pushing things. I'm sorry mate, but we're full up. Like I said earlier though, if someone drops out I'll definitely hit you up.

@The Angry GoatOh shit, my bad! *fixes it*

@SisyphusHaha. Honestly, you guys did a good job of hiding your crises of faith. Also, I'll say that the newer generations of people are a bit more progressive and less inherently tied to their faith than folks in the past, so you'll even see some younger Varyans being against the Omestrian slavetrade and all that. This also spills over to the Church itself, so maybe some of your instructors were a bit lax when it came to that stuff and spent most of their energy training you to be effective warriors instead of effective priests. :p
@shylarahCulmination is the ordainment ceremony where pupils are officially "sworn in" as Inquisitors. It's kind of a complicated process, which I'll detail below.

On the Day of Culmination, after the graduation ceremony, the priests journey together to the Steps of the Red Shrine, the Divine Throne of Lord Varya, where He is said to reside. The Inquisitors then march up the steps, ascending the massive tower which rests at the base of the Shrine as a unified group. Upon reaching the summit, the titanic doors of the monolithic scarlet shrine await them.

The Inquisitors are forbidden from actually entering the Shrine, thus they kneel at its entrance, where they then commune with Lord Varya himself.

Now, this is what the Church calls it, but in actuality, no priest actually speaks to the Ravenous Lord directly. Instead, there, on those steps, they are contacted by an Aspect of Lord Varya. These aspects, or Angels, as the Church describes them, are divine beings who possess some measure of independence, but are bound to carry out His Will. These Aspects form a spiritual connection to each warband and act as their personal attachment to the Lord Varya, a "patron saint" of sorts. The Aspect watches over each Inquisitor of the band, and is said to lend them aid in times of crisis. Whether Lord Varya even notices the Inquisitors who kneel at His doorstep or even cares for their existence is unknown, but his Aspects are said to exist for the sole purpose of protecting and guiding an Inquisitorial warband in Lord Varya's stead, and is said to mold itself according to the spirits of each individual member.

The Aspects themselves have their own quirks and personalities, and it is known that its appearance changes depending on whomever glimpses it. Thus, one Inquisitor might see the Aspect as an ordinary plain-faced soldier, while another might see it as a demon. Others might not even glimpse the Aspect at all. This is all dependent on an Inquisitor's spirit, personality, and faith.

What an Inquisitor sees upon kneeling at the steps is a deeply personal experience, and they are not compelled to disclose it to the Church or anyone else if they don't wish to.

I'll write more about the patron saint of our warband soon enough. :)

PROLOGUE SUMMARY 2/16/2018

Visions:

I-XVII (pronounced as "One-Seventeen")

The Aspect of Lord Varya that appeared to Warband Phoenix during Culmination. The visions it showed each member of the warband left a mark on them in different ways. Some were perplexed by what I-XVII showed them, others were left horrified, while others were left thinking to themselves in silence. Despite each inquisitor having their own unique experience with I-XVII, each somehow knew its name upon waking, and felt its touch upon their souls.

Like other Divine Aspects, I-XVII has no default appearance, but is perceived differently depending on the individual who sees it.

The Visions of Warband Leviathan as shown to them by Aspect I-XIX
