Name: Katherine Brekker
Alias(es): The Rose Witch
Gender: Female
Age: 87
Wish: “Immortality; anything else I will bring about with my own bloodstained hands.”
Affiliation: Mages Association/ Enforcer
Personality: To say Katherine Brecker is ruthlessly ambitious would do her a disservice. For years she has worked toward the single minded goal to head the Mages association, and then bring them to bloody ruin. Katherine is dedicated to everything she sets her mind to, putting a hundred percent into the task at hand, seeing these tasks as art to be sculpted and maintained. Among the rank of the Enforcers, Katherine has built up a spotless reputation, always completing a job. She has however ensured a bloody end for several powerful and influential Mages, many of which had a hand in the destruction of her coven, by framing them in one way or another. Some she simply assassinated, making it look like a tragic accident.
Katherine does have her motherly side; giving excellent care to the garden she tends in her apartments in London. She has quite the green thumb, bringing to life a unique brand of carnivorous plant with the help of her herbamancy known as magewraiths. She cares lovingly for her lovelies as she styes them. She also enjoys painting, using paints she made herself through alchemy. She has quite the flare for an ethereal, haunting sort of art (sort of like staring into an abyss), and her work sometimes being shown in local art galleries under the pseudonym, Anne Duchess. She is learned and highly intellectual, appreciating American literature above all else, especially Edgar allen Poe’s work. She prides herself on owning a first edition of all his greatest works, and even owns a diary the man was assumed to have penned himself when he was alive.
Above all else, Katherine Brecker is a hedonist. The pleasure she finds in her work, her art, her garden, her books, are all that matter to her. She spurns men of religion and even holds Lucifer, the deity of her mother and ancestors in mild contempt. She enjoys the power he pact with him grants her, but detests the fact that her soul is bound to the unholy patriarch. Thus the main reason for her wish. With immortality she will have all the time in the world to find a way to release herself from the Pact. She also has a morbid sense of humor.
Appearance: Katherine is a tall, thin woman with a dancer’s physique, raven black hair, and bright green eyes. The carries herself as a man of impeccable breeding would, with perfect posture, a scrutinizing gaze, and imperious pride. She is fond of dark, but simple clothing often leaving her tattooed arms exposed. Thorny vines studded in black roses are tattooed up her arms, curl around her neck, down her back, and curl around her abdomen to circle her belly button. The only other tattoo she has is a lidless eye in purple ink printed on the back of her left hand. Her nose and lip are pierced with gold studs while each ear has a row of six gold rings.
Bio: Katherine was born in the early 1900s to Sabetha Rythe in the heart of Virginia. She came from a long line of witches that led the coven living in the small town of Hearthstone. They lived hidden from the outside world until the Mage’s Association caught wind of them and sent a team of Enforcers to burn them out. There is a grim hatred between Mages and Witches due to the profane magic they have no problem cultivating, and the source of their power. Katherine and her mother watched as their coven and the town they lived in was burned to the ground when she was thirteen. They were spirited away by a lover of her mother’s, Harreld Brekker, and moved to his estate in Sussex, England. In the following years Katherine was taught her mother’s magic in secret, cultured to a be young lady, and was even enrolled in the Clocktower. She learned how to blend in, and- thanks to her father’s connections- was simply passed off as a prodigy Mage.
In the Clocktower she excelled at herbamancy, alchemy, and rune magic. She however remained a loner, enjoying the company of her own thoughts to the inane little lords and ladies she was surrounded with. Besides she found it easier than having to dispose of bodies after she killed one or two for their smart mouths, so there’s that. She graduated the Clocktower with high honors and went on the join the Association’s Enforcers. In the decades that followed Katherine racked up a hell of a kill count. The fact she is so old and doesn’t look a day over thirty she as a wonder of alchemy.
She has slowly been working toward her goals of dismantling the Association’s hierarchy but when whispers begin about a new Grail War start circulating, she found the runes appear on her hand. With a year to prepare she began laying the groundwork for the battle royal to come.
Equipment: Katherine employs various her plants to kill and track Mages. She carries with her brushes, paints, and canvases. Her potions can heal to a degree but it’s her poisons she has painstakingly crafted. She makes them from the
plants grown from the Sanguine Gardens but her most potent poison isn’t actually leathal, it messes with a Mages magical circuits, short circuiting them and making it so the Mage can’t use magic for a few hours.
