Can't beat my own demons, so I beat up fictional ones instead. It's fun!

Something about winter makes me want to curl up on the couch, wrap myself in a blanket, and join way more RPs than I have time for.

This is the kind of site where you think about it every day even if you haven't actually done anything here for months. Or is that just me?

Bio
Luminosity
Hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm Luminosity, but feel free to call me Lumi or Lum. If you're here, I suppose that means you have some interest in me, my writing, or in roleplaying with me. Here's a bit about me and my preferences. In general, if you want to talk, about RPing or anything else, just shoot me a PM. I always try to make time for new friends.
About Me
Basics I'm in my 20s, female, and currently trying to figure out how that whole "being an adult" thing works. I've been roleplaying on this site for a while off and on, but in general I've been roleplaying for over ten years, here and there. I'm on US Central Time currently.
Writing Level My writing level on this site varies from casual to advanced, though the sweet spot is usually around 3-5 paragraphs per post. If I'm feeling inspired I tend to write kinda long posts, so be warned. I've never been a free-level roleplayer, and writing that little per post is typically something that makes me lose interest.
Activity I love RPing, but I am busy quite often, and so my posting rate will vary. Sometimes I'll be able to post multiple times a day, and sometimes I won't be able to post more than once a week. Please keep this in mind if you'd like to RP with me. Also that more applies to 1x1's, I do my best to be consistent if I'm joining a group RP. My normal writing times for RP are first thing in the morning or somewhat late at night, but sometimes I can squeeze posts in during the afternoon.
Preferences I'm mostly into fantasy RPs with a good dose of adventure and action, especially dark fantasy settings. In terms of mature content, I prefer a certain level of realism, and I'm totally fine with language and gore (I actually really like writing fight scenes). I'm happy to write romance, but I really prefer not to force it or have it be the main focus of a roleplay, but rather something that happens naturally if it feels right for my character. I've never written smut/sex scenes without fading to black, and it's not something I'm especially interested in trying. I enjoy group RPs as well as 1x1's, and while I've GMed in the past, I don't do it very often now, due to stress and time constraints.
I really only RP as female characters here, as that's just my personal preference. I write all kinds in lots of genres in my personal work, but I RP here to simply write what I enjoy most. I'm fine with taking on minor characters or NPCs of any gender if the RP needs it, though.
Games
Do You Play League of Legends? I used to! You can probably guess who my favorite champion is. I haven't played in a long time, though, since I was never very good and ran into one too many unpleasant online experiences. I still follow the game for all of the amazing art and characters it produces, and I'm interested in the upcoming titles in that universe that aren't MOBAs.
So What Do You Play? Lately? Apex Legends, Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy (VII, VII Remake, VIII, XII, a real FF trip lately), and Resident Evil 3. Honestly, not a lot lately, just haven't had the time/interest in anything for a bit.
That's about it! Thanks for the interest, and if you want to get in touch, don't hesitate to send a PM my way. See you around :)
@MelonHead Okay, so longsword was definitely poor word choice on my part, as I didn't mean for her to have a heavy knight's weapon. (searches wikipedia...) Apparently this weapon may not have actually existed but a ninjatō sounds like more of her thing. Ninja sword, I guess. Straight weapon, will change description to single-edged, under 2ft length. She could use it in one hand and have her other free for knives or help moving through environment. It seems more her style than a dueling weapon, at any rate.
I think my contingency is currently to just move fast and be hard to hit, heh. But it feels like giving her something to at least protect the torso area from quick ranged weapons wouldn't be too much.
@Fallenreaper For sure, on the subject of fun. Actually one of the reasons I've been hesitant to join the arena is I wondered if I might not be competitive enough. Since I'm mostly interested in just writing fun conflicts and not overly concerned with W/L.
@MelonHead Thank you, and thanks for taking time to read/help me out.
3 turns sounds good on the stimulant. For the sword... would shortening it help? I hadn't considered the issue of having difficulty drawing it, since I don't think she'll have cause to put it away mid-fight once it's out. She'd use her free hand for her knives and stuff. I feel like she's kinda vulnerable to ranged stuff regardless of what weapon she uses, I figured that would be more of an armor thing. Could you elaborate? Thought about adding something for her to wear over her torso, but I'm not really familiar with what kind of armor would be able to stop or reduce damage from arrows or similar without slowing her down much.
Again though, thank you reading and giving me feedback, I appreciate it :)
I'd be interested in brainstorming Demon x Human, or Vampire x Human, I think, with my character as the human. If you'd like to bounce ideas for these, send a PM my way? I'm going to sleep pretty soon, but I'll be around tomorrow!
My bio has info about my preferences and stuff, if you're curious. <--- That way :)
Used @Fallenreaper's sheet as a general guide of info to include, but I definitely had trouble with a lot of the places exact numbers are used. If I could get some feedback on this, from whoever, that would be awesome. My first arena character bio, btw.
Ember Norrieth
Classification: Mild Realism/Normal, No Powers
Appearance
(Very few alterations from the image in her appearance and gear.)
Written Description: Ember's build is not overly imposing, but the fact that she's roughly in her physical prime is plain to see. She has a lithe, sleek shape, somewhat lacking in raw bulk, her musculature instead being compact and lean. Her appearance is ultimately very feminine. Her auburn hair reaches the small of her back when left loose, but she almost always wears it in a braid, keeping it away from her pale, light green eyes.
What skin she shows is fair and slightly pale, largely unmarred by scars or other markings, evidence that her combat experience largely consists of training, with few real life-or-death situations of battle under her belt. Her demeanor could most commonly be described as intense, almost aching for movement. There's an aggressiveness and a confidence to the way she carries herself, and though her mask often hides her full features, her eyes tell most of the story.
Equipment
(Again, see appearance image for references)
Weapons Longsword - Bladed weapon, double edged. Expertly forged, both lightweight and sturdy. Most effective when wielded with both hands, but still adequate with one-handed use. A balanced weapon with decent reach, a small round crossguard and a comfortable grip. Sheathed across her back when not drawn.
Throwing Daggers - Bladed weapons, double edged, 3 in total, kept in a pouch attached to her belt and upper leg with handles exposed for easy access. Most effective thrown across short distances, but useful enough in melee in a pinch. Ineffective against most armor, requires hitting vulnerable points.
Handguards - Steel handguards serve as metal knuckles to enhance punching attacks. Nothing remarkable, as Ember's punches aren't the most impressive, but they increase the chance of breaking bones on well placed strikes.
Armor
Lowest layer of Ember's top is lightly padded. Will somewhat reduce damage from punches/kicks or other non slashing/piercing attacks.
Her arms are covered by long leather gloves under hardened leather forearm guards, and steel handguards, along with her single pauldron.
Thigh-high leather boots, with plating protecting knees and feet.
Her mask will reduce the effects of inhalation from smoke or other gases.
In total, Ember has very little effective armor, and requires her to dodge attacks or deflect them with her weapon rather than absorb them.
Other Stimulant Injector - A small injector containing a liquid stimulant that aids Ember in combat, applied to either her upper arm or leg. Kept in a small pouch beside her knives. Significantly slows bleeding and dulls pain for (I could use some advice on a number) of Ember's turns. Can be used once per fight.
Skills
Senses & Attributes: All of Ember's senses are within a human range, but she has gone through significant training to hone them, specifically sight and hearing. All others are quite attuned, though naturally her sense of smell is dampened by the wearing of her mask.
All of her physical attributes are well above average for a human woman of her age, but still fall within human boundaries. Specifically things like her speed, dexterity, agility, conditioning, balance, and reaction times are excellent. Her strength and endurance are her least notable attributes, and thus her fighting style doesn't revolve around them.
Fighting Skill/Style: Ember's style consists of constant movement, skilled swordplay, and capitalizing on overextensions from her enemy. She looks to place herself in good positions to evade and counter enemy attacks, punishing whiffs with superior speed, and targeting weak points with precision, to make up for a lack of overwhelming force. She retreats back after most of her attacks, never seeking to remain in range of heavier melee opponents for long. In the case of ranged attackers, her attack is relentless, and her movements take her around flanks of her enemies after attacks rather than away from them.
She is very capable of parrying and countering most forms of light weaponry similar to her own, and seeks to deflect attacks and return with offense of her own rather than block them outright. She targets weak points with her throwing knives at close range to increase the difficulty of dodging or blocking, and seeks to avoid exchanging blows hand-to-hand or grappling as much as she can, as she is in a disadvantage most often in those situations.
Ember utilizes her combat stimulant in the event that she is wounded. It allows her to ignore painful injuries and continue fighting for a while as normally, but does not allow her to push beyond the limits of human endurance, and it only increases her pain tolerance so far. (History WIP.)
Define under power? There's a wide definition for that term as we've proven with numerous discussions over the Tier system within the arena. The best examples I can show you from my own PCs are Trixi (though I would like detail her CS a bit more) and Iron, the latter on human level tier really. Mostly, fighters try to do their own balancing and match up with what they think would work for a good, interesting fight.
My character has no magic and no superhuman abilities. She fights with a sword, throwing knives, nothing too crazy, and can't break the sound barrier or punch through a wall or anything like that. I'd say realistic, but I will admit I haven't studied realistic fighting all that much, just done a bunch of RP combat, and never that competitively. Those CSes definitely help, so thank you. I'll see if I can be detailed enough.
Would someone be willing to recommend or link for me an example of a good character sheet for an unpowered character? I keep going back and forth on deciding whether to try this out or not, and I figure I can't know if I'll enjoy it until I at least give it a good shot. I have a character in mind, I could just use some help in knowing what sort of details are really needed.
Location: Road North of Salarn Interacting With: Sundos and Keystone
"I don't know that I have one," Seph admitted, shrugging. "I try to help people. Not always easy to see what your actions are doing, though. Those militia men I healed, I don't think they're bad people, but they'll probably kill more orcs with the strength I returned to them. You ask them if that's a good thing, of course they'll say yes. And the orcs will disagree, because some of their number are dead, and everyone who knew them will never see them again in this world." She hadn't expected to be caught up in a discussion like this so soon after leaving the village, but Sundos was obviously a thoughtful sort, interested in learning, even if he wasn't particularly well-traveled yet.
"Everyone's got their own way of doing things, and their own reasons for doing them, and when they conflict, it's rarely easy to say with certainty who is good and who is evil. What is righteous and what is ignoble. I just try to use my best judgement, with an open heart and an open mind." She imagined if they came across any orcs, and they were forced into a fight, there would likely be death, and at the very least serious injury. Maybe she'd even cause some of it herself. She had to protect herself, and if that goal caused the death of someone attacking her, it would be unfortunate and regrettable. But she would not declare someone evil or wicked without first knowing their motives, without first understanding.
Even in the most personal and painful of situations.
"These people on the frontier follow what keeps them alive, what keeps them together. I find they offer far more kindness to strangers and weary travelers than an average city-dweller would, whether they have shrines to a god or not. They don't have the luxury of beautiful shrines and bountiful offerings, but that doesn't make them uncaring."
She turned her head to catch Sundos's eyes, giving him a mildly teasing grin. "And yes, it is pretty obvious how new you are out here. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it quick enough." She wasn't a weathered veteran herself, but then again, she'd come of age in a far less secure place than the confines of a temple somewhere. In a way, she'd been weathered long before she even began her current profession.
@IcePezz Thank you! It actually occurred to me that she looks a lot like Annalynne might, though I'm using the image for another character of mine. And yes. Weekend is almost here.
