It's crazy to see another furry in the wild. Well, back to my hidey-hole.

Angus McSix and the Sword of Power is a pretty damn good album. I was hesitant about Thomas Winkler's new band after being booted from Gloryhammer but my worry was unfounded. He is def back one better

What's all this about DnD, where my CoC bois at who enjoy the game where every encounter can be a TPK, never use magic unless you want to die, and where you never save the day but delay the inevitable
Maneater is a pretty fun shark sim. Got a surprisingly interesting story mode to make up for the somewhat repetitive gameplay and it seems pretty short, only 7 hours in and I have almost beat the game. Not sure if it is worth the $40 USD but it is pretty fun nonetheless.
That aside, I am waiting for the Smite community to devolve in a civil war this coming week depending on if a certain Great Old One gets added or if it was just some out of season april fools joke. No matter what happens, a lot of people will be very upset and there will almost certainly be several threads ranting on the reddit. It is fun watching a train derail in slow motion if you don't have a stake in it.
@Malta307 They are both part of a universe I've been world building for a game I've been working a bit on so there may or may not be some details I will need to alter or omit in order for them to fit here.
The hive mind race, the Vuar'uuk, is inspired by the usual organic swarming hiveminds. The society has the usual drones/servents/slaves etc, which are basically weak-willed husks of organisms that largely lack independence and need to be guided by the more independent members. The further up the chain of command you go the more and more independence that particular creature has with the Hive Queens being at the top (there are several per Vuar'uuk controlled planet, one of which reigns above the others) and they are the 'face' of the Vuar'uuk to other races (or the ones who most often communicate with other races). Though above them is the 'Progenitor' which virtually never makes contact with other races and for the most part remains a myth if mentioned at all. It is this Progenitor which gives the rest of the Vuar'uuk purpose, and of this one which all the others serve. So the goals of the Vuar'uuk are for the most part the goal of this entity. I have not yet firmly decided on goals and ambitions but currently thinking something along the lines of constant combat/war in order to make the Vuar'uuk stronger through trials and tribulations, though it will largely be an internal conflict of seeing who the strongest is within rather than war with other races when not provoked.
As far as the other, the Serekin, I do not have quite as much background set for them yet. Basically they are Snake people, very religious (Cause I really do like fanatical zeal from time to time) and separated by a peaceful civilian caste and a brutal military caste.
@Malta307 One of the two I had in mind had a more political focus and has a more fleshed out culture while the other, the hivemind, is certainly more aggressive but not outright hostile and largely lacks a culture but I have developed the military side more than the former. I'll probably use the latter so as to spare me the time and headache of coming up with a military for the former.
got any questions for me such as my hopes/expectations or about the faction I have in mind?
Hope to see this get off the ground so I have the chance to flesh my idea out a bit more.
I'm tentatively interested. Is this going to be free as far as plot or is there a story in mind? Either way, I'd like to get back into doing a NRP after probably at least a year. I have two partially fleshed out alien empires/factions that I have been looking for an opportunity to develop further in a RP and I might be able to fit one of them in here depending on the scope/theme you are looking for.
I have a few questions if you have answers for them.
first, any plot/story details figured out or are you thinking of more going a free for all player driven story?
second, any restrictions on empires/factions etc? human factions only? One of the alien empires I have partially fleshed out from another project is a hive mind, would that be alright?
third and related to the first, what is the focus here? Is this going to be political with all the players trying to find a way to coexist with relative peace given the variety in cultures/ideologies or the usual issues that cause strife? or, going by the arena tag, is this going to be a game of conquest on a galactic (or whatever) scale? or maybe something else?
@Gisk Nevertheless, I think having powers develop would be an interesting dynamic that virtually every other RP skips past. Still unsure how to go about writing it exactly, thinking something along the lines of an awkward second puberty.
Appearance: Standing 5’ 10”, Brian is often seen wearing a black hoodie and green cargo pants, even in the heat of summer. He has messy dark brown hair and a decent amount of reddish-brown stubble that he hopes to develop into a beard. He can often be seen ‘zoning out’ in deep thought, just barely aware of his surroundings, and rarely smiles. Often maintaining a neutral facial expression devoid of emotion
Personality: Brian is often pretty sociable but slow to trusting others. As a result, he has many acquaintances but very few he considers a friend. Brian is naturally curious but has a hard time focusing on one thing when his interest quickly and inevitably disappears, giving him an educated idea of various topics though not necessarily the understanding of them. Lastly, Brian often acts with caution, rarely making a choice uninformed and without deliberation. He tends to be slow to come to a decision, but very stubborn in changing his mind when he does.
Likes: small groups, learning about new things, the outdoors.
Dislikes: Irresponsibility, Overly upbeat personalities, large groups (about 7 or more people), physical contact.
Hobbies: Reading, Philosophy, videogames, and thinking about nearly anything for long periods of time.
Background: Brian was always a relatively smart individual. While he did not ace every class, he always got high marks. He was decent at retaining information taught and curious enough to learn the parts he did not know, which leads him to having some understanding over many topics. Though he often used little of his curiosity on ‘useless’ knowledge like History or English. He speaks English, he knows how to read, and can usually understand words by gleaming the context of the sentence it is in, what reason is there to know Shakespeare or some other long dead writer. He managed to coast school well enough with minimal studying, a little guessing, and a healthy dose of luck. The things that really did eat up more of his time was things that were really important, at least to him. History from this century, Philosophy, ancestral culture, and the occasional thoughts on if and how time travel would be possible.
Naturally all this inward focus led to him outwardly being an outcast to many, but like many kids he felt a need to belong somewhere. So, he learned to fit in, or at least how to appear like he does. He became proficient in learning the mannerisms of various social groups such as the nerds or the artists, and was able to mimic them decently to fit in. Over the recent half of his life, he bounced from one group to another as his interests changed only having a few he was not able to bullshit his way into (the jocks for example). By his senior year, there were few people he has not spent some time with, though few he ever formed a friendship with. With Adult life nearing, there was reason to reflect on his life so far.
Owning no mastery in any skill, nor being able to maintain status in any particular group, he realized that he did not belong anywhere. He always felt an outcast and never seemed to find a place where he belonged. With Graduation looming over and his future to consider, is there anyplace for someone who fits nowhere?
Took a bit longer than I thought to commit to an idea, harder when I don't have all the information about my character in my head (with powers, being probably a very important part of the character, not being up to me) but I got something I am satisfied with after scrapping two other ideas. Might make some edits later for grammar, clarity, and such.
If it is not too late, I'd like to throw my hat in here. Developing powers at the beginning of the RP seems pretty interesting, not choosing them even more so (which gave me pause as while I am fine with writing outside my comfort level as I have a few favorite powers that i usually go with, I am not so sure I can write an interesting character outside of those usual few. Nevertheless I'll give it a shot and take it as a challenge to make something interesting out of it). I have a few different ideas for a character so it'll prob take me two, maybe three days to decide on one and bang out a CS.
That's okay, it happens. I think at the moment things have slowed down to a crawl anyway. I've been waiting to see if any posts come up, but it's beginning to look like this is dead anyway D:
Still working on a collab with @redbaron1234, almost done but Red has been pretty busy with work as of late (and creatively exhausted as well I assume) So not really sure if and when we could get this thing knocked out. I've been pretty much the same as well, though I managed to find some inspiration to write after a while. Everybody has probably been stressed and distracted by the virus going on, which would naturally slow down writing as well.
That aside, hopefully we can keep this up. Been interested in seeing the story unfold and having some fun writing a more philosophical character this time round.
The Tiberium Dawn/Red Alert remaster is actually looking pretty good so far. With a lot of the original staff at Petroglyph working on it, I'm actually feeling hope for this one. If EA ends up making good on their promise, they will upstage Activision-Blizzard.
Either way, looking forward to this in June as kid me never could get through the GDI campaign so it's up to present me to show myself how it is done.
sorry for my lurking recently, been busy the last two weeks with school stuff needing more time. I should have something posted in the next two to three days.
Edit: ended up working with Red again on another collab since we both were together anyway. sorry for delay, having a hard time thinking of something to write by myself, but hopefully we both should have something in another day or two
