In Murky Waters

Ayana giggled softly at some of Iri's reactions, mostly the comment about her legs, though a small chuckle escaped her lips when her cheek had been touched as well. Though Ayana had to admit, she wasn't entirely sure how well this was going, with all the cultural boundaries and the like which made her a little nervous. "Well.. um.. pretty means that... you're pleasing to the eye, but it's a feminine form of the word - or the female version of it," she began to explain, slowly melting into her more scholarly mode. "When you find a female pleasing to the eyes, you can either say they are pretty.. or a more intense compliment would be saying they are beautiful. While for the males, you normally only say they are handsome and there's only one word instead of two." She smiled softly, making it easy to pick up on the fact that she loved sharing information or perhaps just loved teaching.

"There is another word... it's called 'cute.' That's more used for when it brings feeling of... endearment. Like many human women often find babies or.. uh.." Ayana had to pause, looking upwards a little as she tried to search for a term that Iri might recognize better. "Cub? Pup? A newborn! Yes... but other adults can be cute too." She nodded, excited she likely found a better way of explaining it all.

"As for books, they are the way we pass on stories. You probably have an elder that passes them by word of mouth?" she ended it with a question, not wanting to assume. "Well, we cut down trees and slice them thin into what we call 'paper.' Then taking ink... we write down symbols that represent words onto it. So later, we can pick up a book, and read the words that had been scribed down on the paper - reading is basically recognizing the symbols and what they mean in speak." Ayana had been pretty sure she had covered everything, though she stopped to see what Iri's reaction would be and if the understanding would sink in or if she would be even more confused than before. The princess had run into that sometimes when she went off like that - people looking at her with a blank stare. She had to admit, she always hated not being understood.

Oh okay. ^^ Was just some thoughts. I have to reply to a couple other role-plays... but I had forced to take a nap earlier because I was so tired. xD

Edit: Adley's history is finally done. xD I didn't mean to write so much, but also felt the need to cover everything; her life, getting into the Harpers, and her rune. Anyways, we can start planning stuff for after they met now if you want? :)

I've never done this before so I'm not sure what the best way of doing this is... ^.^'

It sounds like a great starting point and gets all the important information across. :)

However you want to improve on it, it could use a little more details - like examples of times when she learned something important in her survival skills, or details of which animals are actually safe or ways she's managed to befriend normally hostile animals. Some of it is written a tad odd too, making it a little hard to follow...

Like;
"Liking a persona better of being a party woman, who was everything that Aphrodite was not. It was who people that she was and she had hoped it would be who she would become eventually. But it only seemed to bring loneliness which until one day she thought would never go away."

Maybe change it to;
"So she wrapped herself in a persona that mimicked the ideal of a party wench [Note: Just using more medieval language, you can put woman if you want], far removed from her true personality. It was who others wanted her to be and it was how she fit in and if she was honest with herself, it was someone she had hoped to become one day. However the more she delved into the role, the more lonely she became, nearly consuming her - it was like a being caught in a whirlpool."

Of course, use your own words, but the example above gives not only imaginative descriptors, but also makes it very clear what she's doing and how it makes her feel. ^.^

Shy and withdrawn... but still dominant? ;P All kidding aside (mostly) I'm liking how your character is coming along. I find it interesting and fun to see that you actually picked some skills that compliment Adley's own. ^.^ Very cool. I'll work on her backstory tomorrow, since I'm about to go to bed. ^.-

Well, I kind of did a thing of... like I ended up with 13 different levels of skills. Novice = 1, Journeyman = 2, Artisan = 3, Master = 4, Grand Master = 5. I'd say keep the level of skills anywhere from 13-15 for your elf... so having two skills mastered is definitely okay, you just won't have as much - which is semi-realistic because the more time we spend mastering one thing, we lack the time to spend mastering other things. ^.^

Believe me, I don't want her being a powerhouse either - in fact, I'm sure your elf will be far more skilled in combat than mine will. ^.^

Haha, thanks. I was going to ask about the swords history to help speed things up, unless you want to do the reading in parts, since she can read up to a month at the moment... and being so close to journeyman, probably see fogs up to six months but nothing very clear. ^.^ Unless he stops her in the middle of the reading too... :p

Very interesting character name, lol... naming her after a Greek goddess of love and sexual desire then picking "Hornwood?" xD

Edit: I wanted to talk to you about an idea I had for some magical artifacts in the world. I know you wanted low magic, but I guess in my mind it doesn't exactly exclude the existence of powerful magic (after all, the dark mage is bringing back dragons!). With that being said, I've always loved the idea of runic items, as in they have runic symbols on them that represent the power and function of the item.

They are more along the ancient/legendary types though, so you might think it's a bit much - however I was thinking of giving Adley the rune of 'True Sight.' It allows her to see the true nature of all things, in a physical sense. So she can't sense alignment or read minds or anything crazy like that, but she could see through illusions, invisibility, secret doors, traps, decipher forgotten languages, understand coded messages, and maybe (maybe) even read people's body language. Thoughts?
